There are better and less expensive transit options for the Pike than a costly and ineffective streetcar. But the projected $400 million cost of a Pike streetcar system (eight times what a state-of-the-art off-the-shelf bus rapid system would cost) is only one part of the toll streetcars would exact on Arlington residents. It's obvious from what's occurring elsewhere that a shared street streetcar system is too dangerous for the Pike. Streetcar tracks alone would cause hundreds of injuries every year. Streetcar accidents involving vehicles of all types would cause dozens of accidents every year, some serious.
That's why it's important to elect John Vihstadt to the County Board on April 8th We need state-of-the-art bus alternatives on the Pike we can all live with, not a streetcar system to die for.

Cindy, please include a photo of one of the numerous accidents that occur where bicycles encounter streetcar tracks.
How many heavy rescue fire trucks and medic units aka ambulances would a streetcar system on the Pike require?
Why would anyone even THINK of voting for someone so irresponsible as to inflict this dangerous transit system on us at tremendous cost? No way I will vote for Alan Howze or anyone else who endorses building a streetcar system on Columbia Pike.
The streetcar tracks, overhead wires, and power stations would cost something like $250 million. What a waste.
We heard this all before, 10 years ago when the Baseball Boosters told us a major league stadium was going to cost $150 million and it turned out costing DC taxpayers $650 million.
The Media (Post, Sun Gazette, ArlNow, etc.) are even more irresponsible for not reporting streetcar safety issues.
