Another County Board Meeting, more supplemental appropriations to cover 'unforseen circumstances' and 'changes in scope of work'. This time an extra $61,000 for masonry repairs to the Fairlington Community Center and and extra $152,408.22 for Potomac Interceptor wastewater improvement project. Stay tuned to see how much Wakefield HS synthetic field replacement is going to cost taxpayers.once the staff report is posted on-line. Also, there are couple of contracts for water main replacements with 20% as contingency cost increases. Agenda Items 10-14 on the March 15th Consent Agenda.
Why bother with bidding capital projects when the actual cost of the completed project is way over the lowest bid? Time for an Inspector General at 2100 Clarendon Blvd..

Time for a new County Manager.
Is that legal? Accepting the lowest bid and then giving the lowest bidder tens to hundreds of thousands to complete the project once the project is underway?
Not surprising. County Manager's office didn't want to reveal the bids for Aquatic Center construction.
If this is some form of bid rigging there should be an investigation, and not by a yet-to-be-formed independent auditor's office.
Audit Parks and Recreation ASAP. Too many parks and recreation projects go way over budget. Why?
How much is the Wakefield HS synthetic field replacement going to cost? How much has already been spent on sports, recreation, and entertainment at Wakefield H.S.?
For the total amount Parks & Rec projects have gone over budget the last couple of years the Reeves farmhouse could have been completely restored and turned into a great environmental education center.
Why aren't County Staff ever held accountable for poor contractor performance and project cost overruns?
Yes, has anyone on County Staff ever even been reprimanded for cost overruns, poor contractor performance, projects dragging on for years?
Any indication which contractors consistently submit the low bid then obtain another $200,000 to $2,000,000 from the County Board to complete their projects?
A couple County Board meetings ago it was a playground that went way over its construction budget.
