Hey, Cindy,
I contacted Department of Environmental Services Staff last week to ask when my crumbling street (photo enclosed) is going to be repaved. After all, we voted about $72 million for street paving the last capital improvement bond issue. So we'll have plenty of money to repave Arlington's crumbling residential streets. Right? Wrong! According to DES Staff, bond funds that would have been used for street repaving are being 'repurposed' by County Manager Donnellan for the County Board's pet vanity projects. And BTW, according DES Staff, my residential street is going to have to become a total mess before its repaved in 2016 or 2017. Thanks for this blog.

Barbara Donnellan is out-and-out stealing from street repaving bond funds for capital to build the Pike streetcar.
Is that legal? Or is that the Arlington Way in 2014?
Lock up Zimmerman and Fi$ette in the same cell, after a fair trial, of course. The only way this $hit will cease.
I want to know when the County's snow plow will show up. I have a doctor's appointment next Monday.
County is supposed to be spending $7 million this year on street paving but will only spend about $4 million.
Your tax dollars at play.
Look at it positively. They can't do a 'complete streets' on your neighborhood if the the pavement is broken and potholed.
DES staff is pi$$ed, but what can they do?
It gets worse. Lightly cracked streets can be repaved with slurry mix which extends the pavement life for about 10 years. Appears that slurry mix repaving is also being deferred, 'cause my street in North Arlington isn't going to be slurry mix repaved and the County will use that money for the streetcar instead.
When your neighborhood's streets are repaved it means your neighborhood's streets can and will be used as a recreation area for things like running and bicycle events.
Don't drive your SUV when it snows...ride a bicycle instead. Take photos and take them to the next County Board meeting and tell the County Board how great it is to ride your bicycle everywhere in the winter. Great way to get nominated to the Transportation Commission.
Only a couple street segments in Fairlington totaling about 1/2 mile will be repaved in 2014. About 4 miles in Fairlington need to be repaved ASAP. Same for other neighborhoods in South Arlington.
Where are the biketards when it comes to street repaving? Seems they would want a nice smooth street for their high speed antics.
Biketards are in Richmond pushing their everybody bicycle in the winter agenda to the General Assembly.
I nominate Jay Fisette for Urban Village Idiot of the Year for 2014. Now that Chris Zimmerman is off the County Board to inflict Smart Growth on America it's a no-brainer.
I nominate $ara$ota $cott McCaffrey.
Let's take an on-line poll.
$ara$ota $cott
$cott
Gentrification Jay
Jay
Jay Fi$$$$$$$$$$ette
No contest - yuptad retard $cott McCaffrey
Gourmet Jay
$ara$ota $cott
Jay
$cott
I vote for BOTH Yuptards
Agreed. In the spirit of ACDC caucuses and Sun Gazette polls I vote for $ara$ota $cott 6 times and Jay Fi$ette 3 times.
Zimmerman is gone. I want to see what happens now.
McCaffrey and Fisette are equally bad, for different reasons.
Arlington streets and roads are a total mess because of decades of neglect and it's going to require $10 million this year just to fix the potholes.
How can they expect us to ride bicycles over Arlington's streets? This is what comes of not having a comprehensive paving program, winter freeze-thaw causes major league potholes and broken pavement.
Street pavement complements the brick sidewalks which are also a mess.
Next County Board meeting is Saturday, February 22nd. Public comment is at 8:30 AM sharp.
So Ballston has a BID (business improvement district). Which does exactly what? Our streets and sidewalks are third world class.
County has it's own public works department which cannot adequately repair streets after repairs to utilities under the streets. How much does that cost us?
Plus, they put thousands more vehicles on our streets and roads every year because of "New Urbanism".
County is getting ready to impose a huge trash pickup fee increase on single family home homeowners. For what?
