County Board Approved a Massive Amount of Parking Since 2012, More on the Way

Hi Yupette,

Every time I see something new about the proposed Pike streetcar it gives me another reason to vote for Cord Thomas for County Board.

Here's another reason - The Arlington County Board approved a massive amount of parking together with the site plans it has approved since January 2012? How much new parking? About 3,500 parking spaces in 2012. About 7,500 parking spaces in 2013. And 960 parking spaces so far in 2014. That's almost 12,000 parking spaces in two calendar years - since January 2012.

Same two years the County Board spent about $6 million on promoting a so-called 'car free diet'. Last County Board meeting, January 28th, Chairman Fisette urged everyone to ride bicycles in the winter, after voting on January 25th for 960 new parking spaces.

So, they want to put a streetcar on Columbia Pike? About how fast do they expect it to travel? Four miles per hour? Five miles per hour? Five hundred million dollars for what? A tourist trolley.

Cord for Board !!

Look at the sites that have already been redeveloped on the Pike - massive parking garages.

Good News is Chris Zimmerman is no longer on the County Board. Bad News is he's now a high-powered lobbyist who gets to have a satellite office in the County Board offices.

County Board's Traffic Management Plan: Two parking spaces for every member of the Creative Class. Plus space to store two bicycles and a motorized two-wheel vehicle.

Peter Fallon rubber stamped every massive redevelopment with massive on-site parking when he was on the Planning Commission.

Has their been any thought to changing the name if this blog to 'Arlington Creative Yupette'?

Creative Class? Yes. Check out the creative bartending at Velocity 5 and A-Town.

Pike would be a 6 mile long parking lot with streetcars between 7 to 10 and 4 to 7.

If all this growth is wonderful, why did my real estate assessment increase by $41,000 this year and why are real estate taxes increased by 4% every year?

How many new parking spaces are 'planned' for the Pike via the Form Based Code? 10,000?

Preliminary site plans filed for Park Shirlington redevelopment call for tripling the number of parking spaces from 300 to 900.

Creative Class of National Security Young Professionals? Yes, they are very creative when it comes to targeting civilians as Al Queda sympathizers in Afghanistan.

Zimmercrat Alan Howze won with 52% of the vote. More of the same old same old if he wins the special election.

The 'selection' of Alan Howze was another charade like 'urban village', 'affordable housing' and 'car free diet'.

Minivan with MD plates full of 20-somethings pulled up where I was refueling my car and the driver asked me directions to Kenmore Middle School.

B-R Corridor was full of YDs from all over the state partying last night. A.Y. blog is correct, hundreds of non-residents voted yesterday and Thursday.

If Howze is elected to C.B. you can be assured that Smart Growth America's Chief Lobbyist, Chris Zimmerman, will be de facto teh sixth County Board member.

Arlington Democratic Party has an agreement with the Arlington Voter Registrar's Office - Party can pull its Tammany stunts at Party caucuses but not at primary and general elections.

If you believe Arlington Democrats hold party caucuses that aren't complete charades you probably believe that Phil the Groundhog saw his shadow this morning.

What's the motto of the Independent Green Party? More Trains, Less Traffic?

Another new urbanist oxymoron. See 'urban village'.
