Hey Yupette,
I had to laugh when the affordable housing advocates from the Great White North of Arlington, aka VOICE, went to the County Board with their 10,000 petition signatures asking for affordable housing to be constructed on public land in the County. Any so-called 'affordable' housing that's built in Arlington will be funded by the County Board in conjunction with its deals with pet REITs, pet developers, pet housing non-profits, pet consultants, and pet fellow Democrats. Aided and abetted by a bloated bureaucracy (there are more than 50 County employees engaged in public relations across County Government) and local media that are de facto chamber of commerce lobbyists
There is no way Chairman Walter, aka Nada, Tejada could say Yes to VOICE last Saturday. Every spare dollar of revenue will be committed to the County Board's pet vanity projects, whether lighted synthetic surface soccer fields, live theater in every neighborhood, Columbia Pike Streetcar and, oh yes, the Jay Fisette Aquatics Center.
I saw this before, when the County Board committed to building affordable housing in Potomac Yards. Never happened.
If VOICE wants to accomplish its goals its members should not waste any more time on the County Board or the bloated County bureaucracy or the news media. They should volunteer to help elect John Vihstadt to County Board.

Never mind the need for workforce housing for the workers on the Pike who earn $25,000 / year.
How many $500,000 - $1,000,000 sports, recreation, and entertainment projects will they put on the consent agenda next year? I predict at least six.
CB didn't listen to VOICE. CB did listen to the Yuptards who want to continue to party till they puke at Velocity 5.
I have to believe VOICE is yet another charade; upscale so-called Progressives from North Arlington who want affordable housing for their recent college grad children and grandchildren who earn $50K a year. Same children and grandchildren who raised hell at the last CB meeting wanting to continue to raise hell at Velocity 5.
Zimmerman and Hynes want affordable housing for their 20-something children and their children's friends from W-L and Wakefield.
Also safe bars and clubs for their kids to party, on the Pike and in the B-R corridor.
It would be interesting to take a census of Arlington Mill in 3 years to see who lives there.
Jay Fi$ette is a classic Guppy, and has become an anachronism within LBGT.
Check out the video for the Consent Agenda at Tuesday night's C.B. meeting.
Don't miss the bartending at Velocity 5 as an art form advocacy speech to the C.B.
Jeff Bezos may own the Post, but the Post is still run by the same old same old group of people, absent Don Graham, who apparently retired.
County is being run and ruined by status quo in-groups that want to keep the gravy train on the tracks until they retire and move somewhere 200 miles from the nearest Smart Growth redevelopment.
As their parents did with manufacturing in the Rust Belt, 40 years ago. Retired and moved 200 miles from anywhere there was manufacturing.
Time for the New Suburbanism. Older decaying suburbs preserved as truly affordable housing for young families and seniors.
Arlington is headed for becoming a people and vehicle clogged urban mess. Wait until the New Urbanists inflict 'Complete Streets' on us.
VOICE should certainly NOT spend any more time and effort trying to convince the County Board's Media Facilitators, the Post, Sun Gazette, and ArlNow, to endorse Workforce Housing for people earning less than $30,000 per year in Arlington County.
This all occurred before, ten years ago, when affordable housing was supposed to be built in Potomac Yards. VOICE should stop wasting its time with Zimmerman machine Democrats who endorse Howze.
County Board spends about 85% of its time in its offices making deals with pet corporations, non-profits, and fellow Democrats. VOICE is just another neighborhood nuisance to be ignored while the County's PR machine churns out don't worry be happy propaganda.
Next bunch of CB deals will be with REITS who will inflate the luxury housing bubble.
What's the result of 30 years of one-party government in Arlington? Too many secret deals made at 2100 Clarendon Blvd. that inflict too many expensive problems on residents with too few benefits.
After themselves the CB members care about the REITS and then the bloated county government bureaucracy that caters to the REITs. That's all.
Agreed, VOICE is just a group of 'neighborhood nuisances'.
I wonder how many times Zimmy will be visiting the CB once he leaves the CB to lobby the CB?
Costs out of control for the Aquatic Center? You ain't seen nothing yet. Only thing that's more expensive than owning and operating a 15 year old big yacht is owning and operating a 15 year old big health club / spa aquatic center.
At this point in post-9-11 America, anyone wanting to invest in Arlington County Virginia is either completely deluded by Arlington County's propaganda machine or mentally incompetent.
Currently nine states in the USA have unemployment below 5%. Why are you all still hanging around Arlington where it's become a county of haves and have-nots? Where whatever little raise you get is more than eaten up by taxes?
It seems strange that all the comments on this blog have the same tone and style. Are they all written by the same person? Is there only one Arlington Yupette? I certainly hope so!
Yes, like a 5% increase in residential real estate taxes each year for the next 5 years.
AY was begun by two Fairlington residents who were and are distressed about the priorities of the small group that's been running and ruining Arlington for the past couple decades. Almost all the comments posted are terse statements from anonymous persons who are as fed up as we are.
If you all want to know who's behind this blog, ask yourselves why Republicans like Jim Pebley and Democrats like Libby Garvey are supporting John Vihstadt for County Board.
I am appalled at how Arlington has become a county of haves and have-nots. Tens of thousands of residents are receiving assistance of some kind, and the number is growing. There is always plenty of funding available from 2100 Clarendon Blvd. for the Elite to obtain more extravagances for itself. What comes next after the Aquatic Center?
Did you read the Post's feature about C.Z.? He's 54 years old and he grew up in New York in the heyday of Rockefeller Republicanism (1959-73).
Same stupidity repackaged by C.Z. and marketed as Smart Growth / New Urbanism.
Waaaa Waaaa...I want my kid's soccer field to be totally synthetic and lighted.
