Hey, Yupette,
Home Properties Incorporated (an Upstate New York Corporation that's been de-investing in Upstate NY for more than two decades) filed a preliminary site plan for Park-Shirlington redevelopment with Arlington County. The plans depict massive sprawl warehouse apartment buildings with many windows that supposedly conform to nearby Fairlington's architecture. No way does this site plan have anything whatsoever to do with Fairlingon's historic suburban planning.. Based upon what I could determine from the plans, this project will massively impact Fairlington in a massively negative way. Project was pre-approved by County Board Members Favola, Fisette, Hynes, Tejada and Zimmerman during private meetings with Home Properties in early 2011. Did I mention that County "Planning" Staff is already trashing Fairlington residents who won't "go along with the program"?

Planning Division's "Planner in Charge" - Aaron Schreiber - is already calling Fairlington residents who won't conform to Chris Zimmerman's "Legacy" for Fairlington "Nut Cases".
FYI - There's a secret 15 page MOU between Home Properties and Arlington County regarding the massive redevelopment of Park Shirlington.
Nut Cases? County Government + Local Media + Chamber of Commerce that go along with massive urbanization of Arlington, no matter what the consequences
Will Zimmerman lobby Arlington County for more massive smart growth infill once he leaves county government? Is he going to have his own clients as well as lobbying for Smart Growth America?
RIP Fairlington 1943 - 2013.
I wondered why Paulie Ferguson moved out of Fairlington, after spending a ton of money making over his condo.
Terry Holzheimer is rumored to be leaving Economic Development.
Zimmerman 2-step, unleased office space bubble followed by vacant apartment bubble.
I wonder if Zimmy has picked a group of ACDC facilitators aka ward heelers who don't live anywhere near Fairlington to pack site plan review meetings.
County Board spends at least 50% of its non public meeting time making deals with out-of-state REITs.
So the REITs have run out of urban warehouses to convert into luxury apartments, now they're building huge luxury apartment buildings that look like warehouses in the suburbs? ;~{
Chris Zimmerman is joining Smart Growth America, a huge pro-gentrification lobby, at a reported salary of $200,000.
Smart Growth American is not only about massive urbanization-gentrification but about 'repurposing' suburban infrastructure, including suburban streets, into urban 'amenities' to provide open space for a vastly increased population density concomitant with massive urbanization.
So far this year Zimmerman and the County Board approved creation of about 4500 new parking spaces in Arlington with the approval of new site plans. And about $3 million telling us that, among other things, we have to ride bicycles in the Winter on a 'car free diet'. How 'Smart' is that?
Payoff for Zimmerman? Payoff for Fairlington?
Isn't this massive redevelopment a fraud being perpetrated on Fairlington? There is a negative community benefit and property values will decrease.
So-called vacant apartments are typically being used as transient housing, ake hotel rooms. Is that the way site plan conditions are supposed to work?
Zimmerman will undoubtedly lobby the County Board once he leaves the County Board. So the destruction of Arlington as a livable suburb will continue under the onslaught of 'smart growth' urbanization.
Industrial warehouse apartment buildings belong in Home Properties's back yard in beautiful post industrial Rochester NY, which is desperately in need of quality housing.
Zimmerman will make millions of dollars from inflicting 'smart growth' urbanization on older suburbs across the USA and Canada.
What has 'smart growth' done for Arlington? Raised our taxes every year and destroyed our neighborhoods to build expensive housing and expensive amenities for a Hedonist Elite.
Elite? Take a look at who's who in Smart Growth America.
Arlington residents are supposed to walk, take a metrobus, ride a bicycle everywhere all the time. Parking is reserved for non-residents who work for local governments, NGOs, and corporations and make all the decisions.
'Smart Growth' means lots and lots of parking spaces in Arlington's urbanized neighborhoods for those who have been gentrified out and live 40 miles from where they work in Arlington, on former farmland that was bulldozed into sites for affordable condos and apartments.
FYI, County employees who pitch a car free diet to Arlington's sheeple drive to and from work from affordable neighborhoods in Fairfax County.
How about a thread about Zimmy's cronies in the "New Urbanism" movement who are realizing huge profits by urbanizing suburban neighborhoods and their new PR offensive to makeover our streets into parks, playgrounds, festival, and activity areas?
Zimmy's giveaways to the REITs = Massive increases in neighborhood density + no contribution for new open space and public infrastructure + re-purposing streets into parks.
BTW, Douglas Park, across from Zimmy's home, is a de facto wilderness area.
Fastest Arlington Police response time in the history of Arlington County? A few months ago when a couple of Latino kids from Barcroft Apartments were kicking a soccer ball in Douglas Park across the street from Zimmy's home.
'Smart Growth' coalition (including Arlington County employees and those elected to public office) are hugely profiting from the destruction of Arlington's suburban lifestyle.
Appears the redeveloped Park Shirlington will contain storage spaces for at least 400 bicycles. Bicycle racing on Fairlington's 'complete streets' in the future?
Chris Zimmerman is one of many responsible for the office space bubble, housing bubble, and expensive public infrastructure bubble.
I blame the chamber of commerce, economic development, planning agencies, and the media for being big government, aka we can do everything and be everything for everyone, boosters.
Would you please consider running on the Green party ticket for Zimmerman's seat!
Planning Division staff are obnoxious bullies who don't live in Arlington and who treat residents who oppose mega-urbanization like 'neighborhood nuisances'.
Think you're a Nimby for not wanting mega-development in your historic neighborhood?
Want to guess what's in the front yard of Vornado's CEO? Bonus points if you know what's in his backyard.
Yupette, how about a thread about the three urban village idiots who are running to succeed Zimmy?
He has Long Island Sound in his front yard and a couple of yachts.
Fairlington residents are talking class action lawsuit due to depressed property values.
He has a full size replica of Stonehenge in his back yard? Just a wild guess.
Deja vu Shirlington? At least one of Fairlington's Democratic 'facilitators' has been promised a seat on Planning Commission in return for intimidating North Fairlington residents into going along with the destruction of their historic community.
Post prints little about Arlington Government since Bezos bought the paper, which is still controlled by the Graham family.
Confirmed by County "Planning" Staff: As part of the deal made with Home Properties (owner of Park Shirlington) three years ago the County Board told Home Properties that the residents of the redeveloped Park Shirlington could buy memberships from Fairlington's condo communities to use swimming pools, tennis courts, etc.
That's why Home Properties included so few resident amenities in the preliminary site plans.
Then there's a massive 'complete streets' plan that's going to be imposed on Fairlington.
