Time is Right for Jim Moran to Announce He's Retiring

Hi, Yupette,

I also attended the Arlington Civic Federation candidates' forum on Tuesday.

I was impressed by the younger Democrats in the General Assembly, Patrick Hope, Rob Krupicka, and Alfonso Lopez. They have lots of energy and get good legislation passed in a House of Delegates that's overwhelmingly Republican.

Seems to me now's the appropriate time for Congressman Moran to announce he's retiring. He hasn't done much in Congress since the Tea Party took control of the House. Even without his problems with ethics and his famous temper he's been just hanging out in the House of Representatives for years.

Time to give the 8th District a Representative who can get legislation passed that's important to the District while keeping faith with his or her progressive values. Time's right for Jim Moran announce he's retiring, and for a multi-candidate primary next year to choose his successor.

Thanks for this posting. I second the motion.

Let's also have third party and independent candidates run. Yes, time for Jim Moran to retire.

Compare Jim Moran constantly spouting ire at the Republicans in Congress to what Delegates Hope, Krupicka, and Lopez stated during the CivFed candidates forum Tuesday night about working with Republicans in the General Assembly while promoting progressive legislation.

Only bills Jim Moran has sponsored recently that have a chance of being passed by the House are those related to childrens' health.

Now that Don Graham won't be running the Poat Jim Moran won't have an automatic Post endorsement based on Don's and Jim's shared interest in attending local charity extravaganzas.

If Hope, Krupicka or Lopez wants to run in a Dem Primary next year against Jim Moran any one of the three has my vote.

Anonymous said...

Repubs should be smart for once and persuade a moderate Repub who is popular to run against Moran.

The only time during his 22+ years in Congress that Jim Moran has been effective were 10 months in 2010 between John Murtha's death and the Tea Party takeover in 2011.

Next Member of Congress who represents the 8th District should mind his own district, not Virginia's Native American tribes and the POWs at Guantanamo Bay,

Talk about Yups ---- what does Jim Moran do after separating from his third wife? Moves to Yuppie Shirlington to live with his teenage son. Guess that must have gotten old because he moved back to Del Ray a few months ago.

Everyone in Alexandria's legal system who told J.M. to move to Arlington...or else...ten years ago is retired or dead.

Goes to show Jim Moran has come a long way during his 22 years in Congress ---- from 46 going on 16 to 68 going on 18

Anonymous said...

Jim Moran was shocked after John Murtha's death. For the first time in almost 20 years he could actually move legislation through the House.

Yeah, too bad Obama messed up on national healthcare and the recession.

Anonymous said...

What is it about government that so many otherwise intelligent people put up with so much bad behavior?

Jim Moran is a walking, talking advertisement for term limits for Members of Congress.

Anonymous said...

Look at who's keeping Jim Moran in office, grizzled old geezers like Nick Benton who just ran a front-page photo of Jim Moran looking like a grizzled old geezer.

Also, mature adults who should know better....like Mark, Margo, and Mame.

If the Dems were smart they would ask Jim to retire and pick Alfonso Lopez as the best person to represent the 8th CD.

Anonymous said...

The LGBT community would heavily contribute to elect Adam Ebbin as the successor to Barney Frank in the House.

Anonymous said...

Demographics of the 8th CD are changing because of gentrification. The younger so-called 'progressives' are not all that progressive.

Anonymous said...

Hope, Krulicka, or Lopez could do much better job of representing us than Jim Moran. Adam Ebbin? Maybe.

Anonymous said...

Look up the legislation Adam Ebbin sponsors in the VA Senate.

LGBT has become like a political party or religion whose members have a fixed belief system, an agenda, and vast financial resources.

Jim Moran will be at the Fairlington Community Center at 7 PM next Wednesday, if you care to ask him what he re-election plans are.

Jim Moran is the generous daddy of the special interest gimme groups. Look at how our state and local taxes are raised to pay for the necessities --- transportation and education.

Anonymous said...

Ebbin, Hope, Krupicka, and Lopez raised our taxes to pay for transportation so the feds can pay for highway construction in Afghanistan.

Check out the bills Congressman Moran is sponsoring this session of Congress. How many of the beneficiaries live in this congressional district? Duh.

'live with his teenaged son in Shirlington.' Like a guy who's 65 going on 15 shares an apartment with his son who's 23 going on 13?

Anonymous said...

Apparently, members of the Moran Family protect the Congressman from himself when he's away from his congressional staff. Something they've been doing for decades.

Jim lived with Jim Jr. for awhile after he parted company with LuAnn.

Who's to blame for Jim Moran's decade-long on-the-job-retirement in Congress? The Neo-Cons who have run and ruined the Republican Party for the past 30 years.

Anonymous said...

Plus the Post executives (starting with Don Graham) who, like Mark, Mame, and Margo, are adults and should know better.

Anonymous said...

Where is Jim Moran when it comes to 4th Amendment protections for U.S. Citizens? Siding with his good buds at the CIA and NSA.

Anonymous said...

Take a look at the legislation Jim Moran is sponsoring this session of Congress. Would any county government pay a lobbyist $250,000 a year to promote this legislation to Congress? I don't think so!

First Yuppie Obama, Congressman Jim Moran, and practically everyone else in Government will revoke our constitutional rights without any discussion whatsoever while affording a laundry list of the world's dictators every right of due process .

Anonymous said...

What did First Yuppie Obama, Hillary, Kerry, and Moran have to say about Assad, Mubarak, and Quadaffi in 2009? Read the NY Times and Wash Post from September 2009 and see for yourselves.

Anonymous said...

When does Congress debate revoking the authority it gave NSA, CIA, DOD, and the FBI to have total control over our personal lives?

Anonymous said...

So Jim Moran is living in Alexandria again? How about a congressional investigation concerning the epidemic of excessive use of force by the Alexandria police against unarmed citizens?

Anonymous said...

U.S. Congress = do nothings + cowboy crazies

Anonymous said...

Democrat or Republican they had no hesitation about revoking the 4th Amendment.

So, thanks to Edward Snowden we know now that everyone in the USA has had our personal communications monitored for years...except for Murtha, Moran, and other Government VIPs.

Anonymous said...

U.S. Senate is debating right now about what to do with Syria.

When's the debate scheduled about ending NSA surveillance of U.S. citizens?

Anonymous said...

Who's providing the electronic technology for NSA to monitor us? Jim Moran's contractor campaign contributors.

Anonymous said...

Oh, U.S. Senate debate about Syria is postponed until the U.N. can come to some consensus about disciplining Assad? Duh.

Jeff said...

The First Yuppie can't even send rifles and ammo to the Syrian freedom fighters without being called Osama 2 by the Repigs ?

What kind of f-ed up nation do we live in?

Anonymous said...

Murtha to Moran, September 2009 (off limits to NSA interception): Jim, cash is wrapped in today's Wash Post, tossed you-know-where.

Anonymous said...

U.S. Citizens who live in Virginia's Eighth Congressional District? Your only three options are: Work, Work-Out and Worship. (But not in the mosque of your choice unless you want your prayers recorded and preserved forever via NSA Prizm software).

Anonymous said...

Senator John Kerry 2009 --- As a matter of fact, the Assad Regime is pretty cool in certain ways.

Anonymous said...

Jeff...it will only get worse by 2017. Prediction - next President will be a cowboy or cowgirl.

Anonymous said...

As a matter of fact I did research what President Obama, Senator Kerry, and Secretary of State Clinton had to say in 2009 about wonderful dictators like Quadaffi. No negatives at all.

Anonymous said...

Hillary in 2009: Bad dictators oppressing their North African nations? What bad dictators?

Hillary C. said...

Who, Me? I was only Secretary of State. I had no power whatsoever when it came to foreign policy.

Anonymous said...

Your taxes at work - $15 billion to the CIA and $11 billion to NSA this fiscal year.

FYI, Jim Moran appeared at the Fairlington civic association tonight and driveled about several topics like the environment when he wasn't defending his pay-to-play campaign contributions from his defense contractor campaign contributors.

Anonymous said...

Yeah, turns out that treated drinking water from the Potomac River is a toxic substance, according to Jim Moran.

Thanks for the heads-up, A.Y.
