Time for a Moratorium on Additional Performing Arts Spending

Hey Yupette,

I found a graphic of the Arlington performing arts community's plans for future financial planning and am providing it as a public service. Why is Arlington County giving those wealthy wealthy people who are on the Signature Theater's Board of Directors any money whatsoever? Jay Fisette's domestic partner is on the Signature's BOD so was the County Board voting to bail out the Signature a conflict of interest for Giveaway Jay?

Anyway. here's the graphic. We really really need some responsible adults to exert some fiscal oversight in Arlington. Thanks for your blog.

Oh, I see, Signature Theater surrounded by Arlington's taxpayers.

Can we have a list from Frank O'Leary of all for-profits and non-profits that are in arrears on taxes? Who do I call to find out how to obtain one?

Agreed. No more money for any new performing arts in Arlington. Close down the Artisphere on June 30th.

Where's $ignature'$ # 1 Board Member - $tephen $ondheim - been hiding?

Where are the local media VIPs, like $ara$ota $cott McCaffrey? When I was growing up in Podunk Falls the local newspaper and 500 watt AM station were always promoting benefit events for local non-profits.

Philanthropy? What does that word mean?

You can reach Frank at 703-228-4000.

You can reach Ingrid at 703-228-3033.

Second the Motion - Close the Arti$$$$phere on June 30th.

Yeah, when I was growing up in Indiana the local media promoted local non-profit organizations. What's wrong with the Sun Gazette, Patch, etc.?

AGREED. No more new performing arts spending in Arlington. Move the performing arts spending to where the population growth is occurring and where there is no spending on the performing arts.

Close the Arti$phere on June 30th.

How about a photo of us Arlington Sheeple taxpayers being clipped by the County Board to fund their pet special interests?

Close the Artisphere!!!!

$ara$ota $cott's making plans to build a big McMansion on the family compound in $ara$ota...when he retires from County Board / Arlington Chamber Booster-in-Chief.

Philanthropy? Signature Theater in NYC is named 'Peter Norton Signature Theater'. Where is the philanthropy in Arlington?

Tell it like it is - County Government (not just the County Board) is a big group of irresponsible juvenile delinquents in need of adult supervision.

Let the out of state REITs that inflict mixed use urbanization on residential communities pay for live theater in every neighborhood.

Time for a moratorium on all new development. Time to call new development what it truly is - a social, economic, and environmental disaster inflicted by the wealthy on the middle class. Our residential streets are becoming canyons, our parks and open space are becoming overcrowded, our quality of life is going to hell, we are paying more in taxes and fees for less, all to benefit whom? People who don't live here and don't give a damn about us except as a "profit center".

County Board bailout of the Signature Theater is Exhibit 1 of all that's wrong with Arlington.

No, the black hole in the graphic is my formerly quiet neighborhood sucking in all the residents of nearby infill redevelopment to use our former community park as their "outdoor activity center".

In 50 years Arlington will be an unliveable mess.

Arlington County Government is out of control. Time to declare a State of Emergency.

Juvenile Fiscal Delinquent #1 is Jay Fisette.

Ain't that the truth!

Amen and right on! They're long overdue for an old fashioned pants-down spanking!

Shoot, its practically that way now. I don't think it'll be an unlivable mess in 50 years, I'd say 10-15 years and likely sooner than that unless someone gets in charge to stop all this "development", "smart growth", etc., takes a deep breath and implements a balanced and sensible growth that stops the out of control building of high rise condos and massive McMansions on what seems like every street and corner these days.

How many other Arlington performing arts groups are in arrears on taxes? And how much it going to cost us to bail them out?

Next year I am having a picket fence constructed around my front lawn. My neighborhood is a dog park for half the in-fill in Arlington. Time for the County Manager and her gang of so-called "planners" to retire to their exclusive enclaves in Fairfax County and leave our neighborhoods alone.

Washington DC in 50 years? Imagine the Federal Government is dispersed around the USA. What's left? Tourism?

Anonymous said...

Why don't they just go to the General Assembly now and have Arlington declared a city?

Anonymous said...

Jay Fi$$$ette and his domestic partnr could buy the Signature, Jay could retire from the CB and run the Signature as a hobby.

I am also having a picket fence constructed around my front lawn. I like dogs, but the parade of dogs from the mixed use infill starts at 5 AM and ends at 11 PM.

I sympathize, Cherrydale is also a doggie walk destination for the people who live on top of Metro stations.

At least it's not Yups passed out on your front lawns at 3 AM Sunday morning like around Courthouse.

They are using money squirreled away from FY 12 to bail out Signature.

Jeff said...

Wonderful. Donnellan is delaying street paving until FY 14 begins next month while using leftover FY 12 funds to bail out the $ignature? We don't need an IG in Arlingon County, we need an Big 4 accounting firm doing a top-to-bottom audit of County Government to determine what the hell they are doing with tax revenue.

Anonymous said...

The Question for the Ages continues to be asked: When does my street get repaved?

Anonymous said...

Agree, Arlington Government needed an audit about ten years ago.

Anonymous said...

Anyone know anything about the Synetic?

Anonymous said...

I am sure there will be $$$ "granted" to the $ignature's constantly struggling poor cousins.

Cut off all taxpayer funded grants, gifts, gimmes to the Signature Theater. Immediately.

The local media put up with this, rather than calling for an investigation and audit of the County's books.
