Hello,
A.Y. was on-the-scene at the water main breaks on the Pike today, between George Mason Drive and S. Four Mile Run Drive. Pike was totally blocked to traffic. DES repair crews had excavated down at least 10 feet in two places on the Pike to reach the broken water main. We spoke with a DES crew and some contractors and they stated that a streetcar system would be out of service for days if a similar water main breaks occurred with streetcar tracks in place.
Metrobuses were rerouted around the closed section of the Pike.
Cindy.

Enhanced bus and bus rapid transit are the only viable alternatives for the Pike. The Pike streetcar is a $200 million gimme to developers.
For-profit local news blogs are shilling for Zimmy's streetcar again.
Something like 1/3 of the people who post to the ArlNow blog work at 2100 Clarendon Blvd.
ArlNow blog did not receive an Abbie Award for it's Yuptard drivel.
Yes, you have to be a standout County Board Booster to receive an Abbie.
You just don't dump 10 yards of gravel into the hole you dug to repair the water main then put some asphalt on top when you have streetcar tracks in the street.
No problem. Zimmie will buy buses as a backup.
ArlNow is massively censored to support the status quo according to Zimmie, as are Arlington's other for-profit news blogs.
Appears the Post's Arlington - Alexandria reporter is working on her last assignment before retiring.
The streetcar tracks would be directly over the water main !!!!!
Any plans to move the water main?
I've been visiting this blog for a couple years...whoever you are at Arlington Yupette, you are good journalists.
ArlNow is Zimmie's conduit from the County Manager's PR Team to the sheeple.
Yes, streetcar tracks would be directly above the water main. How smart is that?
The for-profit news blogs both shill for the County Board and are the County Board's Nannies. But how much do they pay in corporate taxes to Arlington County? There is about zero philanthropy from all of them combined. A 500 watt AM broadcast station in Podunk Nebraska gives more in the way of community benefits than all of Arlington's for-profit news blogs combined.
Check out news of BRT planning in Alexandria and Montgomery County via the Patch news blogs for those jurisdictions.
What other utilities would be directly under, or nearly under, the streetcar tracks?
Anyone see any of the media in Northern Virginia hold autocrats like Zimmerman accountable and responsible? For anything?
It's been 30 years since the news media in Northern VA last held the pols accountable and responsible.
Reporters: Economic Development is coordinating Christmas gift delivery to journalists, not the County Manager's Office. You can pick up your gifts from 9 AM to 5 PM on Thursday and Friday, December 20th and 21st, at the Economic Development Office.
It gets worse, Sun Gazette Editor Scott McCaffrey claimed yesterday that "Conflict of Interest is My Middle Name". In the event you wondered why Zimmie does as he pleases on the County Board.
Two thousand dollars? You call that a "Christmas Gift"? For a year of shilling day in and day out for your corrupt a$$es? The comps I get from the real estate companies and developers every month are more than that.
$o, retire to $ara$ota, $cott...Your gratuities will buy you a lot more there...
Hey, I'm a C.B. facilitator for a for-profit Arlington news blog...who do I contact in Economic Development to collect my Christmas gift?
Ask Zimmie...LOL
Arlington County is TOTALLY CORRUPT...Stay Away
Ask Scott "My Middle Name is Conflict of Interest" McCaffrey.
Ask Nancy and Inta.......
Ask Margo...
Ask Mame..
Ask Barbara Favola...
I don't see corruption in local news sources, I just see incompetence. It's much easier to just repeat, er sorry, report on the Board's views than it is to do real research.
But Yuppette missed the story this time: the water main break is a result of the Board neglecting infrastructure. Yes, it would wreck the streetcar, but no matter what you think of the trolley, the fact that there were two failures in one year on a water main is totally unacceptable.
It's well known that many miles of water main are overdue for replacement in Arlington County.
Story is the pro-development Retro Yuptards want you to ride a retro streetcar when you aren't riding your retro bicycle everywhere all four seasons. Like today - raining, sleeting, snowing. Media go right along.
How about those retro water mains on the Pike where the County is spending millions installing storm water impoundment basins to slow the release of storm water into Four Mile Run?
Latest water main break is under where the East bound tracks would be located.
So many County employees post to for-profit blogs from 2100 Clarendon Blvd. it has to be part of their job descriptions.
Hey, I finally received my Christmas Gift from the Developers via Arlington Economic Development. Thanks, C.Z.
