Media Sources Confirm Massive County Board Censorship Against Streetcar Alternatives

Hello, Yupette,

I worked as an intern for one of the local news blogs and the owner of the blog was repeatedly informed by the County Manager's office that he would lose his advertisers and never be given another exclusive by the County Board if anything whatever was published about bus rapid transit. So nothing has been published.

Mary Hynes is flat-out lying when she states that citizens have access to comprehensive information about Pike transit. The comprehensive information has been about streetcars and streetcar systems. The news blog where I worked received repeated requests to publish information about bus rapid transit, but the blog's owner was afraid to comply.

Orders came from Zimmerman to the County Manager.

The County Board (including Libby Garvey who sits silent when BRT is brought up during County Board meetings, like today's) will be totally and irrevocably responsible for the thousands of unnecessry injuries and deaths that will occur over at least two decades concomitant with construction of a streetcar system in the Columbia Pike Corridor.

$cott McCaffrey admitted last Thursday that his $ervice on the Arlington Chamber of Commerce's Executive Committee precludes him from providing any information about alternatives to a $treetcar $ystem on the Pike to $un Gazette subscribers.

Why were Matt Wavro and Audrey Clement also silent at today's CB Meeting?

You mean The County Board's Media Pro-$reetcar Chamber of Commerce Boo$ter, Wu$iCrat, and big Facilitator Pu$$y, $cott Mccaffrey? I thought so.

$cott McCaffrey's a Big County Board Pu$$y Facilitator? Sure got that right, Anon.

McCaffrey is already featuring Fi$ette, who is running for re-appointment by the regime, as many times as he can get PR produced by the County Manager's PR team, at taxpayer expense, of course.

Want better government in Arlington? McCaffrey should get a list of Fi$ette's domestic partner's consulting clients. Publish the list. You will see corporate cronyism that will leave you astounded.

So a Pike restaurant owner told the County Board yesterday that the streetcar is essential for his business. Gee, I thought the controversy was about transportation on the Pike.

County Board and non-resident County Staff and out-of-state developers are spending 50% of the County Board'a time on streetcars.

Price of silence by local "Journalists" = Ad Revenue + Access to VIPs.

Hey Sports Fans, guess whose closeted GLBT hedo lifestyle is 'off limits' while he trashes everyone else via his news blog?

It's Sunday - time for "Beat the Press" on the A.Y. blog.

Speaking of $cott, I wonder if he saw the Post and Fall Church News Press opinion features referring to $cott's Chamber of Commerce cronies as a Republican Super PAC?

Anonymous said...

Falls Church News Press is looking more and more like the Post Metro Section.

Time for Nick Benton to retire. Let $cott become Editor and revitalize interest and advertising by going after the Loopy Lefties.

Anonymous said...

Good idea, Nick can retire to Key West and Scott can become the FCNP's #1 Cranky White Male.

Next A.Y. feature? Who will pay for all the injuries from streetcar and streetcar rail accidents?

Arl Now blog, new format, same censorship.

Patch news blogs are big boosters of the local status quo. Bunch of nannies, just like AOL.

Where is the bicycle lobby? Preparing their pitch to the County Board for FY 14 gimmes?

Excellent idea, Nick Benton retires, McCaffrey becomes Editor of the FCNP. Topic of first editorial - put adults in charge of the FC school system.

The primary targets of censorship by the local media are minority group members. They receive little or no news coverage and appear in few photos, except of sports teams.

What the diff between the McLean edition of the Sun Gazette and the FCNP? They are both published for wealthy white people. A middle class family couldn't afford the taxes, utilities, and maintenance on a $1.5 million home advertised in the local newspapers if you gave them one.

Scott would have to make an impossible move - from the Republican-dominated Arlington Chamber to the Democrat-dominated FC Chamber.

How about - media censorship of alternative transportation for those who chose not to ride bicycles??

My sister lives in an older suburban community in the Northeast where a supermarket chain is NOT offering gasoline discount points but discount home delivery of groceries. Seniors love it. Each delivery vehicle prevents at least 30 SOV trips to and from the supermarket. More if deliveries are made all at once to retired living communities.

Number 1 Special Interest Group that should be vocally opposing streetcars and streetcar tracks is Bike Arlington. Instead they're trading silence for $$$.

Not offering gasoline discount points for purchases but offering low cost delivery of groceries instead? OMG, that's almost as un-Democratic as retrofitting solar panels to the roofs of Arlington's public buildings.

Of course, $cott's favorite supermarket chain (who could it be, who could it be?) makes a huge deal about awarding gasoline discount points.
