BikePortland Releases New Non-Confrontational Multi-Modal Safety Video

Hello,

My name is Mike and I live in Portland, Oregon.

I bicycle everywhere in Portland. I also own a Prius which I drive about 4,000 miles a year, often to cyclist events.

Last year I suffered a concussion and broken arm from an encounter with a slippery streetcar track on my bicycle. This year BikePortland produced a non-confrontational multi-modal safety video, "When I Ride", which I encourage everyone to watch.

To watch BikePortland's safety video please visit www.bikeportland.org/2012/09/20/portland-streetcar-inc-bta-release-new-safety-video-7710

Again, BikePortland has taken a non-confrontational approach to shared-street mutimodal safety. Putting many different types of vehicles on streets means serious safety issues arise which must be responsibly resolved.

Have a safe ride,

Mike
Portland, OR

Thanks, Mike. Great multi-modal safety video.

Sobering. That could be me head over heels after hitting a streetcar track. Why is Arlington County going ahead with this insane streetcar system for the Pike?

The Developers wanted it. Chris Zimmerman OK'd it. That settles it.

That's about the truth of it! The "Arlington Way" is full speed ahead if a developer and/or "Board Member(s)" want it and the regular taxpaying people be damned (i.e., you peasants out there shut up, get out of our way and sit down).

I watched the video. If streetcar tracks are causing so many safety problems why go ahead with a streetcar system?

Oh, you not only have to cross the streetcar tracks with your bicycle's front tire at a 90 degree angle to the streetcar tracks but the bicycle has to be vertical to the tracks. How insane is that? Why are we allowing this already-corrupt regime to install a transit system that's going to kill and injure hundreds every year?

This safety video sure convinced me that a streetcar system using rails should not be installed on the Pike.

The corrupt regime is supported by the corrupt local media, including several blogs populated by trolls who spend their 'work' days at 2100 Clarendon Boulevard posting the regime's propaganda to the blogs and trashing anyone who 'doesn't go along with the program'.

Ain't it the truth! You nailed it with the proverbial hammer!

Did you notice the video? Four wheel vehicle drivers also want to avoid streetcar tracks, by putting their tires way off the tracks.

Why are we allowing Zimmerman to kill and injure hundreds of Arlington motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians every year with his crazy Pike streetcar system?

Corrupt Local Media? You wouldn't be referring to $leazy $cott McCaffrey, Editor of the $un-Gazete would you?

fvkristine said...

$cott has multiple conflicts of interest, but the stuff he's allowed to print is mostly factual.

The video doesn't show how people with motorized wheelchairs, motorcycles, scooters, and mopeds deal with streetcar tracks.

Motorized wheelchair gets stuck in a streetcar track and is hit by an approaching streetcar?

Anonymous said...

Motorized wheelchairs tend to be unstable with a high center of gravity, but that varies from model to model.

What happens when a 500 lb motorcycle slips on a wet streetcar track?

Anonymous said...

If thousands of motorcyclists wipe out on loose gravel every year, what about wet streetcar tracks?

Anonymous said...

Arlington's bicycle advocacy groups are irresponsible boosters of anything and everything that will get them handouts of tax dollars from the County Board.

Anonymous said...

Why are the dangers to two wheeled vehicles not being explored?

Anonymous said...

What would be the total cost of a streetcar system on the Pike? Including costs of lawsuits, accidents, injuries, etc?

Anonymous said...

What are the costs that the $leazy non-profit and for-profit Biketards aka Biketard Arlington and the Arlington Biketard Coalition are imposing on Arlington taxpayers?

Anonymous said...

Yupette, the Biketards are well-aware that Gangstas on mountain bikes are responsible for a crime spree across older suburbs like Arli gton across the USA.

Police are well-aware of everything...but do nothing.

Who pays when a senior on Medicare hits a slippery streetcar track and is hospitalized for 30 days? We do.

Anonymous said...

How about who pays when someone without health insurance is thrown off a bicycle after hitting a streetcar track?

If you legally have to wear a helmet while riding a motorcycle, why not while riding a bicycle?
