Non-Resident Arlington Decision Makers: "Party's Over There, in Arlington"

Hey Yupette,

Don't you just love our non-resident decision makers organizing all the wonderfully noisy festivals and events, like wonderful "Rolling Thunder" this weekend? Our County Manager and Chief of Police live in lovely Clifton. County Staff also live elsewhere, at the end of cul de sacs in classic Fairfax County, Prince William County, Loudoun County neighborhoods, not off Route 50, Route 66, and I-395 in Arlington. Thanks for featuring the wonderful non-residents who make all our decisions for us. Summer begins again in Arlington. Duh.

If you go to Wikipedia you will see that Memorial Day has historically been a solemn event.

Bad behavior in Arlington last night was so ubiquitous it was appalling.

So why would the police enforce Arlington's noise ordinance against loud vehicles? They don't live here either.

Massive amount of bad behavior last night in Arlington.

I would say the worst is the massive intoxication at the festivals where alcohol is served, which the police watch the participants get drunker and drunker.

Best understatement of America's worst social behavior over the past 45 years appeared on the front page of the Post today:

"Regulators' focus on cars has left altered motorcycles with little oversight".

Heard today at a farmer's market: "Only people having fun in Arlington are tourists and summer interns".

Memorial Day aka Decoration Day was begun to put flowers on the graves of those in the North and South who died during the War Between the States.

Memorial Day is still a solemn event, outside Arlington County.

Where was the Post 20 years ago?

I'm a Yupette fan. But, personally, I've found the Rolling Thunder crowd incredibly polite, well mannered, and neeedless to say, patriotic. Yupette's diatribe against comes off as extremely intolerant. Drop it and move on.

Re - the Post article yesterday - If the choppers and modified 'street' bikes are both illegal and hard to control, why are they allowed to be ridden at high speed along crowded streets?

Ted said...

Yeah, cops call Rolling Thunder "Knuckleheads". Illegal motorcycles? Dangerous. Time for safety checkpoints.

Incredibly polite. Drive dangerous and illegal motorcycles at high speed. Duh.

"Captain, they appear to be worshiping a machine they call Harley".

Move "Rolling Thunder" to VA Beach - Yorktown - Williamsburg. A historic resort area. Plenty of noise already from jet fighters taking off and landing.

Rolling Thunder organization wants the event to be safe, sane, and legal. Lets the a-holes join up, looks the other way. So do the police.

No-brainer solution:

Restrict D.C. Rolling Thunder to unaltered street bikes with original factory equipment.

Sponsor another Rolling Thunder event in VA Beach on another holiday weekend open to all motorcycles.

If you gave me a brand new Harley I would trade it for a brand new BMW.

Isn't it obvious? Arlington County Government is waging war on Arlington residents who own 4-wheeled vehicles.

Dr. Lance, Dr. Dremo, if you keeping cutting off 18-wheelers you will be launched into a sub-orbit that will deliver you onto the helo pad of Inova Fairfax Hospital.

Yes, Arlington County Government does not want you to drive a 4-wheeled automotive vehicle. Wants you to store it in an underground garage or parking lot. Streets must be kept clear so non-resident County Staff can drive to 2100 Clarendon Blvd. and other County Government sites from outlying suburbs, one to a vehicle.

Dover-Kohl's 'plans' for Clarendoning the Pike include construction of massive parking garages so non-residents can drive to party without any parking hassles, as are common in Clarendon.

Non-residents who have illegally enrolled their children in Arlington's schools are the #1 cause of weekday traffic problems near Arlington's elementary schools.

Libby Garvey allowed the influx of non-resident children enrolled in Arlington schools to grow from a nuisance to a disaster. Teachers are pissed, and they are talking about that and Libby's other stunts, like hiring out-of-state consultants who agree to rubber stamp the Supe's and School Board's decisions.

I would say that at this point there are close to 1,000 students attending Arlington schools whose parents are not legally Arlington residents. About 1 in 25 students.

How has this occurred? The media, except for a few blogs like this one, are bought off one way or another.

Rolling Thunder and the local police should enforce noise and motorcycle safety laws for the event. Why are convicted felons with outstanding arrest warrants allowed to join Rolling Thunder at will and be given a police escort to ride their illegal and dangerous choppers?

I concur with the number of non-resident students illegally enrolled in Arlington's public schools, about 1 in 25. That's what, about 950?

Anonymous said...

$18,000 X 950 = $17.1 million
