School System, County Insiders Tolerate 'Hundreds' of Non-Resident Students Attending Arlington Schools

Hey, Yupette,

So a few Civic Federation Delegates are finally concerned about the 500+ students who aren't legally Arlington residents attending Arlington schools? About time. Another scheme that's been allowed to continue far too long, at a cost to taxpayers of $18,400 per student per year.

Since when is it OK for parents who move out of the County to keep their kids in Arlington's schools until they graduate? Since Libby Garvey, Mary Hynes, and other Machine Democrats were first elected to the School Board, 15 years ago. Lately it's gotten worse. Nice that a few people are finally complaining. Only reason that's happening is because of school overcrowding.

Who to blame? The insiders who control Arlington County and have given the schools an extra $5 million to $10 million a year to perpetuate this 'gimme' to their friends, including County employees, who move out of the County.

I agree that BOTH the school system and county government badly need an Inspector General. And I am NOT going to vote for any incumbent for any elected office.

Mary Hynes? Didn't she just receive 'Kudos' from ACTA President Tim Wise?

Tim is a 'county insider'.

So if they move out when their child is in second grade and the child keeps attending Arlington schools until he or she graduates from H.S., that's about $184,000 spent to educate that child, right?

Don't you have a Commonwealth's Attorney in your county? Your elected officials appear to be a damn bunch of juvenile delinquents. Your Delegate Englin was always preaching to the General Assembly in Richmond and now it appears he had as much respect for the 6th Commandment as one of my barn cats.

Yes, we do have a Commonwealth's Attorney, but she's busy keeping up with 'driving while black' and 'suspicious Hispanic males loitering near bus stop' complaints.

Libby Garvey and Mary Hynes should be prosecuted for allowing this massive fraud to occur over the course of many years.

Arlington's First Fraudsters are Republicrat Wayne Kubicki and his lovely wife, who ran for school board twice. They know all about the taxpayer rip-offs but choose to say nothing.

If you buy Tim Wise a big box of doughnuts and a couple cups of coffee you may persuade him to stake out an Arlington elementary school at 8 AM when County employees who live in PW drop off their kids.

No, the WORST f-ing Fraudster is Mark Kelly, who knows all about it and will do and say nothing.

I will absolutely vote for Audrey Clement on November 6th. Enough is Enough.

You didn't dare bring this subject up with Libby Garvey. Many parents who abuse the school system in this way are not only her personal friends but voted for her in the Democratic caucus earlier this year, using their Arlington address.

This only proves that Arlington is corrupt from top to bottom, including the Arlington Police Department whose officers are in and / or around the schools every school day.

O.K., FYI, parents who move out of the County have blanket permission from the School Board to keep their kids in Arlington schools until they graduate.

And yes, I voted for Libby in thc Dem caucus, even though my family moved to Fairfax County several years ago.

I will do the same in the May Dem caucus.

Libby's PTA machine started vicious rumors about anyone who raised the residency issue. FYI.

Anonymous said...

Corrupt? The entire school system, including planning consultants, administrators, School Board, PTAs, etc., refuse to even discuss residency.

Anonymous said...

Chris Zimmerman and Mary Hynes had kids in Arlington's schools for what, 20 years? Until recently.

Anonymous said...

Libby Garvey:

"We're going to have to think about discussing this and hire consultants to perform evaluations and advise us about various aspects of the concept of residency".

Anonymous said...

Reason it's tolerated is because non-resident police and people employed by the Commonwealth's Attorney's office are also abusing the system.

500 non resident students divided by 23 students per classroom equals 22 classrooms.

So, what else is new? For years I've seen kids who live in Fairfax County walking home from Wakefield HS.

"Honey, I am sorry that your friends will have to attend school where they live in Annandale. It's all the fault of the troublemakers who won't go along with the program that's been in place here for so many years."

Sheesh...Isn't this basically a bunch of fraud by a bunch of politically-protected and media-protected people?

This thread-posting is one of the most profoundly disturbing postings I've ever seen on a USA Blog.

The 'program that's been in place here for so many years' is elsewhere referred to as 're-segregation through gentrification'.

Theo Stamos is Arlington's Premier Racist. Racism could not exist in Arlington County were it not for her.

Yupette, Arlington County is what it is...

Anonymous said...

What it is is a corrupt regime..like Mubarak's in Egypt

School system will have 23,000 students enrolled this year. So 500 students who aren't Arlington residents is 2% of that. The only reason the North Arlington Elite even mentioned residency is because of ocercrowded schools in N. Arlington.

Twenty two classrooms equals one new $50 million school.

Theo is right, Yupette is a local troublemaker. No one's business if I moved out of Arlington and my kid attends his elementary school until middle school, in 3 years.

Anonymous said...

Jeff, have you heard of anyone in County Government expressing concern about this? Is this 'abuse' a de facto fringe benefit for County employees?

Anonymous said...

Twenty two classrooms = how many trailer classrooms?

Anonymous said...

This behavior is really appalling. What message does it send to children?

I am 19 and attending Virginia Tech. My parents were able to keep me enrolled in Arlington schools for the 8 years after we moved to Fairfax County, until I graduated from W-L. I realize that their decision was wrong but there was nothing I could do but go along. Yes, at least 500 students attend Arlington schools who are not legally Arlington residents.

Isn't that just outrageous. The Dem Pigs have established a 'Culture of Corruption' in this County. The Re Pigs go right along.

The Arlington School Board and School System are so fiscally irresponsible it's frightening. Hundreds of millions have been wasted on poorly designed infrastructure over the past decade.
