Arlington Republicans Criticize School Board Mismanagement - In Private

Hi Yupette,

I'm a Republican who's fed up with the cozy relationship the Arlington Republican Party has with the Arlington Democratic Party.

Yes, there's a deal whereby hundreds of non-resident students can illegally attend Arlington schools at a cost to taxpayers of $18,400 per student per year. But there's much more waste and mismanagement in the school system that Arlington Republicans know about that you don't.

There is a huge under-utilization of Arlington's school bus system because parents are given tacit encouragement to drive their children to school and pick them up.

Arlington school HVAC systems break down because of inadequate maintenance and the repairs are expensive. Similarly, the cost of operating and maintaining the Oracle-based IT system is huge. A recent system crash cost more than $1 million to fix. The School Board spent extravagantly for custom architectural services for Wakefield HS but could have purchased off-the-shelf architectural plans for significantly less. The County funded a $1 million baseball field for W-L but the School Board is not even talking about the school itself, which is an energy pig that needs a $20 million classroom addition.

If ever a public institution deserved an Inspector General it's the Arlington School System. But until Arlington Republicans stop going along with the program and start being vocal the waste, fraud, and mismanagement will go on.

Arlington's so-called 'fiscally conservative' Republicans trade their silence for their own 'gimme list' of special interest projects and programs.

Wayne Kubicki's employer, Chip Akridge, is in continuous meetings with the County Board regarding Pike redevelopment.

Who's responsible? Start with the School Board. Start with Libby Garvey.

Anonymous said...

Garvey should be running all right...from a grand jury investigation for allowing massive fraud by non-resident parents.

Where are Tim Wise and the ACTAcrats?

It's Noon, they're listening to Rush boost their favorite Republican Rodent - "Willard".

Repubs will means-test you for Social Security but give their pet corporations and do-nothing non-profits corporate welfare.

Anonymous said...

If there is a critical need for more EMS units why aren't Repubs who are concerned about public safety, health, and welfare issues getting vocal?

Anonymous said...

Wild guess...they're too busy ranting and starting rumors about "The Liberals"?

Anonymous said...

Yeah, they're ranting on ArlNow constantly: "Kick the Latinos off the Pike so we can get world-class Mongolian, French, Moroccan, Russian, Cambodian, Brazilian, etc., restaurants there instead."

Arlington RePigs are, typically, too busy listening to Rush, Fox News, Hannity, etc. NeoCon brainwashing to think or care care about anything else.

Arlington Republicans know how pervasive the non-resident student fraud scheme is. Non-resident Republicans are among the biggest abusers.

Arlington politics is a bi-partisan dog-and-pony show.

Willard? You mean "Slick Willie II"?

Hear about the school HVAC system that blew up and had to be replaced at a cost of $400,000 because of poor maintenance? Ask Libby about it next Saturday.

Anonymous said...

Let me guess. Democrats are the dogs and Republicans are the ponies?

Anonymous said...

What the RePigs are really good at is making anonymous racist comments on ArlNow.

How about school buses, lots of school buses, that transport 5 or 6 children to / from school?

Anonymous said...

FYI - Mark Kelly and his Republican buds all have kids in the school system.

Seen on another blog: "The amount of waste, fraud, and mismanagement that exists in County Government could run two small counties downstate".

Anonymous said...

Try Patrick County and Dinwiddie County.

The Civic Federation's "community leaders" are always talking but all they actually do is give each other rewards for preserving and protecting the status quo.

Anonymous said...

It's bipartisan. There's a list of people who are approved by the Democratic Machine to keep sending their kids to school here even though they've moved out of the county. Republicans also put themselves on the list in return for their silence.

I would be interested in knowing what Wayne Kubicki's employer, Chip Akridge, has been discussing with the County Board during their closed-door meetings.

Anonymous said...

There are repeated postings here about Akridge being in "continuous" meetings with the County Board. What exactly is the source of this information, and what area(s) of the County are being discussed? For what type of development? Have any re-zoning requests or site plans actually been filed?

Source is from the County Board, purpose is Pike redevelopment.

Civic Federation was founded as a white citizens council in the heyday of segregation 100 years ago.

Anonymous said...

CivFed is a bunch of geezers and geezer wannabes.

Anonymous said...

They're also a bunch of crony capitalists, lexus liberals, and neocon elitists.

Arlington's sheeple taxpayers have been ripped off big time for years. Republicans and their developer friends are one side of the heads we lose, tails we lose coin.

Anonymous said...

Yeah, some choice - Corporate Welfare / Social Welfare.

Anonymous said...

Yupette, you had it right last year - Civic Federation is Kubicki Theater.

Anonymous said...

Where is that big bunch of North Arlington do-gooders that got together last month and had a huge revival service for affordable housing? Well, a big redevelopment project on the Pike is going to the County Board on Saturday with no affordable housing at all. Nothing heard from them.

Anonymous said...

Geezers? Did anyone mention ACTA?

Anonymous said...

Why don't the Repubs go after the non-residents school rip off? Cause non-resident Repubs are also ripping off the school system.

Anonymous said...

Why do we tolerate Libby Garvey and James Lander running for office for years while on the school board, which is legally non-political?

Anonymous said...

N. Arlington Republicans trade their silence for school boundaries drawn by themselves and for special programs. Mark Kelly does not send his kids to the nearest elementary school, for example. That costs at least $50 million extra a year.

Anonymous said...

People, try thinking ahead 20 years. The bi-partisan pirate crew that runs Arlington today will be gone, the god awful mess they are creating will remain. We are paying to create their mess.

Mark Kelly ran a half-baked campaign. If he ran a real campaign he would have gotten 51% of the vote.

Anonymous said...

Instead of demanding a ballot referendum on the Pike streetcar Kubicki goes around telling everyone that the Democratic machine doesn't have to hold a referendum. Some Republican.

How about the corrupt local media? There is like zero investigative journalism, hasn't been for years. Post reporters and editors all live in Maryland and DC and only want to cover galas and whatever else the elite is doing this week.

So what would putting Martha Foster on the School Board do? Most likely create even more enrichment programs for the N. Arlington Elyte.

School System Needs an IG said...

We will be paying any increase in teacher pension costs as well as giving teachers a raise in the FY 13 budget. I have not had a raise in 3 years and have a 401K that's become a major headache. Who cares about me?

Anonymous said...

I want the person or persons in the school system who gives County employees who move out of the County blanket permission to keep their kids in the school system until the kid graduates - fired.

Anonymous said...

Put another Elytyst on the School Board? Just what we need. A couple new instructors to teach Yorktown students 'Ancient Languages and Customs of England, Scotland, and Wales'.

Anonymous said...

Time for a Tea Party.

Anonymous said...

Yeah, Arlington teachers who live in PW County and enroll their kids in Arlington schools should try hassling with the ridiculous 401K system and no raise for another year.
