Garvey, School Board 'Desperate' for Classrooms

Hi Yupette,

You will be interested to know that Libby Garvey and the School Board are so desperate for classroom space that they are looking at using community centers as schools.

All the community centers are under consideration, Fairlington, Walter Reed, Aurora Hills, and so on.

Same school board that approved the ugly energy pig with too few classrooms that is W-L High school and the new sports-entertainment-recreation center that will be Wakefield High School.

Libby Garvey knew years ago that Arlington County was adding thousands of new housing units to the County's housing inventory every year. She's been constantly running for public office for a decade.

Libby Garvey should be running all right...for retirement. So should the other School Board members. The Superintendent should be asked to resign so he can do what he does best...coaching a sports team.

We've had 33 years of one-party rule here. Enough is enough.

School Board should retire and pursue other interests...like raising chickens.

If you look at Libby Garvey's tenure on the School Board you can only conclude that she would go right along with the County Board of Wasteful and Extravagant Spending.

Democratic machine is so pathetic that they gave themselves an award last County Board meeting for the design of W-L High School.

The ugly ornamental steel beams on the exterior of W-L costs millions which should have gone into constructing more classrooms.

Libby Garvey knew 5 years ago that the school system would suffer serious capacity problems, given the pace of in-fill development.

Libby and her friends start lots of rumors about this person and that person, truth is she's such a squirrel that every problem sooner or later gets referred to consultants.

Wednesdays 12:30pm
Saturdays 9:30am
Sundays 11:30pm

They will start airing it Wednesday and will run it through March 25th.

Last night the Arlington Public School System discussed capacity issues at Reed Elementary School. More (much more) will be spent on 'school support infrastructure' than on actual classrooms. In effect Libby and the others on the school board want to build more of the same - more administration, recreation, and sports infrastructure with 8 or 12 classrooms. Also, bulldoze schools like Abingdon where capacity is not an issue and build expensive new sports-recreation-education facilities.

Yes, they want smaller versions of what Wakefield will be, where classrooms and learning are of secondary importance to sports, recreation, community sertvces, etc.

It is time for a moratorium on the in-fill urbanization of Arlington County, which is being driven by county staff, developers, consultants, planners, lawyers, media executives, etc. who are not residents.

It's time to bring in school architects and planners who don't share Libby Garvey's 'vision'.

Entire school 'planning' process sucks. It's all about what the School Board, school administration, and their pet 'community leaders' want.

How did the parenting facility for pregnant teenage girls get co-located with an elementary school? This facility at Reed School is what, 2 miles from the nearest high school? What message does this send to elementary school students? Getting pregnant when you are 15 is OK?

How did unwed teen parenting get co-located with an elementary school? Libby never me a special interest she didn't want to throw money at in return for votes. She will get along famously with Zimmerman if we elect her to the County Board.
