Sun Gazette Editor Scott McCaffrey is Completely in the Pockets of Developers.

Hello Yupette,

I had to laugh out loud when I read that Scott McCaffrey's chief reason for not endorsing Audrey Clement for County Board is because she believes 'developers are the power behind the scene in Arlington governance'.

Scott McCaffrey is a member of the Arlington Chamber of Commerce's Executive Committee, and, when not writing features and editorials in favor of mega-development in Arlington, serves as Vice-Chair of the Chamber's Economic Development and Government Affairs Division, where he facilitates mega-development in Arlington.

Scott McCaffrey is the second-worst local newspaper editor to be endorsing anyone for anything. The worst is Yellow Dog Democrat and Falls Church News-Press Editor Nick Benton.

Scott should tell his readers and his neighbors in Fairlington about the closed-door discussions between the Chamber's Economic Development and Government Relations Committee and County Planning Staff regarding the secret planning underway for the Shirlington Crescent / Four Mile Run area.

Yes, Scott, tell us about the briefings County Planning Staff member Richard Tucker gave your Chamber committee.

Scott lives in a condo community adjacent to Fairlington and, as Vice-Chair of the Chamber of Commerce's Economic Development and Government Relations Committee was briefed by County Planning Staff about the proposed re-development of Shirlington north of Four Mile Run, but he did not choose to divulge the plans to anyone outside the Chamber.

Arlington Chamber of Commerce Executive Committee meetings are secret.

No wonder he endorsed Hynes and Tejada...it's all a big club and the meetings are all secret.

Scott McCaffrey is a total a-hole. Sits on a committee that makes mega-deals with developers for Shirlington and doesn't tell his Fairlington neighbors what he's up to. What a sleazy weasel.

Who are the members of the Arlington Chamber's Economic Development and Government Relations Committee?

It gets worse...Sun Gazette's parent corporation is owned by a consortium of Pirate Capitalists , headed by GE Capital.

Only time Scott is seen in Fairlington is when he cuts through on his way to his newspaper's offices on Edsall Road.

His newspaper does not pay a dime in commercial real estate tax or any other tax in Arlington County.

Chamber's Econ. Development and Gov't. Relations Committee is co-chaired by Richard Lunger of Bean, Kinney, Korman, and Bob Bushkoff of Dittmar.

Thanks for this blog. I live in a quiet neighborhood off Harrison Street in North Arlington. The people you describe in this blog are pirates, vultures, and carpetbaggers who care nothing for Arlington County, our lives, homes, residential streets are nothing more than economic opportunities for them.

Scott earns extra cash writing ad copy for in-fill redevelopment.

GE Capital...Pirate Capitalism at its worst.

At yesterday's CB meeting Mary Hynes had to tell CPHD Director Bob Brosnan (who lives in Fairfaax County) to provide information about closed door planning sessions to Arlington residents and voters. Our lives are totally controlled by non-residents.

McCaffrey has some nerve telling Audrey Clement to build an advisory commission resume'...the Sun Gazette's parent company doesn't pay a dime in taxes to Arlington County and McCaffrey does as little as he can in the way of pro bono service. He was offered his choice of advisory commission assignments in return for boosting Democrats and chose the Emergency Preparedness Commission because it's the least amount of work. His 'service' on the Chamber's Executive Committee is all about economic benefits for Scott and his newspaper.

Think about this -- McCaffrey gets to inflict his editorial Nannyism on us in his newspaper and blog and also gets to micro-manage our lives according to his Nanny Belief System (abbreviated BS) via his Chamber of Commerce / County Government shenanigans.

Don't forget to remember...Scott's recently-deceased relatives will be hosted and roasted by Scott's favorite adult fraternity / sorority on November 5th at American Service Center.

Yo, Sarasota Scottie, how about a visit to the family estate in Bradenton and an in-depth report about why Arlington's new Planning Division Director, Mega-Dumb Growth Guru Peter Katz, was told his services were no longer required by the Sarasota County Commissioners?

Anonymous said...

Short answer: Peter Katz was a Bad Kitty.

Duh said...

Duh. So Scotty told Audrey Clement to get on the Planning Commission, but passed up the opportunity to be appointed to the Planning Commission because it was "too much work"? Duh.

Shoud be a disclaimer attached everything Scott writes: "This Statement Approved for Publication by the Arlington County Democratic Committee and the Arlington Chamber of Commerce".

The Post is worse. Wants the total "Fentyization" of DC in the worst way.

Anonymous said...

Why do you think Fisette repeatedly visited DC Government and consulted with Fenty when Fenty was Mayor? To coordinate establishing the inside the beltway hedo zone, admission is a yearly household income of $250,000 and up.

Scott also ediits the McLean-Oakton edition of the Sun Gazette which is so pro-development it's scary.

Anonymous said...

Scott also has County Government press releases custom written for the Sun Gazette by the County's PR department.

Seen the home prices for modest homes (aka teardown opportunities) in Arlington? All McCaffrey (who is a licensed realtor) cares about is ad revenue from teardown McMansions.

When do Arlington residents and voters get to find out what the out-of-county and out-of-state development crowd is going to inflict on us?

Yupette, while we're at it, please note that Scott McCaffrey doesn't cut through Fairlington's school zone at 40 mph in his Miata on the way to his office on Edsall Road. He cuts through Fairlington's school zone at 40 mph in his Miata on his way to his office in Springfield.
