Clement Repeatedly Warned Hynes About Dangerous Overcrowding in Metro Stations

Hello, Yupette,

I live in Lyon Park and commute to work via Metro. Also use Metro to get downtown on weekends. Again this past weekend the Metro Center station was dangerously overcrowded. County Board candidate Audrey Clement has repeatedly warned WMATA Board member and County Board member Mary Hynes about dangerous Metro station overcrowding, especially when there is an emergency situation. Most recently at the Lyon Park candidates' forum last week.

No doubt about it, Metro station overcrowding is a disaster waiting to happen. When Audrey Clement raises this issue with Mary Hynes during candidates' debates all we hear from Ms. Hynes are platitudes.

Why this insane spending of $200 million for an unnecessary Pike trolley when Arlington's Metro stations need emergency stairs and exits right now?

Because Chris Zimmerman wants a trolley.

Dr. Clement wants hybrid double deck buses for the Pike to met future public transit needs. She also wants station overcrowding ended immediately.

Mary Hynes and everyone else connected with WMATA knows that Metrorail is a 70's era subway system that was never designed to handle the passengers generated by 25 years of mega-development, which she and the other County Board members approved.

Duh. Doesn't D.C., Alexandria, Arlington, etc., have a Fire Marshall? What does this person ever do? Stand around the overcrowded nightclubs in Mary Hynes's neighborhood waiting for a fight to break out amongst the 'overserved' partiers?

Hynes admitted at the afternoon County Board meeting that the Metrorail passenger suicide attempt last week has provoked a major league emergency preparedness investigation by WMATA. No wonder Bob McDonnell wants to replace urban village idiots like Mary Hynes with competent transportation decision makers.

You mean Mary "We'll Muddle Through Somehow" Hynes?

It was the same with Zimmerman when he was on the WMATA board. WMATA spent tens of millions on cosmetics and ignored track maintenance.

What Mary Hynes knows and is not telling us: it's dangerous to use Metrorail during rush hours.

She and the WMATA Board are looking to raise fares (again).

Mary's husband Patrick drives her everywhere in his SUV.

Mary wants you to call her and share your frightening experiences at overcrowded Metro stations. She will respond to your concerns by telling you - 'we're forming a working group to explore ways to facilitate an appropriate response'.

Mary Hynes is so full of S***. Metrorail needs a $5 billion upgrade and makeover ASAP.

I will not ride Metrorail during rush hours and on weekends when there are major events in DC on the Mall.

Yes, there will be a panic on a platform and/or in a station. Yes there should be emergency stairs in all the stations. This is what we get for ignoring our own needs and meddling and fighting wars in the Third World for the past 30 years.

Bob McDonnell must be shaking his head when he reads about WMATA's 'disaster waiting to happen' rail operations. Hynes is doing exactly what she did on the Arlington School Board - don't worry, be happy, we're going to make the boo boo better.
