County Residents Expressed Widespread Dissatisfaction with County Board on September 17th

Hello Yupette,

I viewed the public comments at the opening of Saturday's County Board meeting and it appears that's there's widespread dissatisfaction with the way County Government is operating. County residents from across the social, economic, ethnic, and political spectrum expressed dissatisfaction with the County's bureaucracy which is apparently not capable of addressing longstanding problems and opportunities (homelessness, code enforcement, traffic, moderate income tenants facing eviction, renewable energy, library operations) but is focused on sports, entertainment, recreation, and helping out-of-state developers fast-track mega-redevlopment projects no matter what the consequences for nearby communities.

All the County Board cared about on Saturday was approving the ugly energy pig mega mess to be constructed in Virginia Square, 3 blocks from my single family home.

Their goal is obviously the total urbanization and uglification of Arlington.

Wait until you see the Monument View mess that's being deferred until next month.

The Payola Favola scandal, exposed during the Democratic Primary, proves that so-called 'planning' in Arlington is nothing but a 'pay to play' charade.

Payola Favola? How about one acre of 'green' bonus density awarded to Dittmar for two energy pig buildings.

Strange that Tom thinks the County is concerned about sports. The Sports Department in PRCR is a joke, especially when it comes to youth sports. When it comes to the operation of recreational and travel youth sports programs, we're 20 years behind neighboring jurisdictions. When it comes to youth sports facilities, we're 30 years behind.

There are 5,000 kids playing youth soccer alone in Arlington.

Speaking of soccer, Tejada has promised Latinos an indoor soccer arena (aka 'multi-purpose facility') to be constructed next to the Aquatic Center if he's re-elected. Projected to cost $60 million if soccer is included, $45 million if not.

Then there's the all weather baseball field field to be constructed in Barcroft Park.

Meanwhile, my kid's attending classes in trailer classrooms.

Synthetic outdoor soccer fields have to be renovated every 8 years at a cost of about $800,000.

What is going on with Shirlington? Why do all these people who don't live in Arlington get to make planning decisions affecting those of us who do?

Urbanization...Urbanization...Urbanization

Tejada is taking contributions from non-profits? Thought that was illegal?

County Government is out of control. County residents are being thrown under the bus, which is driven by a non-resident County Manager.

No $#!+, Pamela. Three major retailers get to build, by right, a total of 150,000 sq feet and 600 parking spaces in Shirlington with drive through pickup of items ordered on-line? Deal reached by parties who don't live in Arlington?

Dump the County Board and fire the County Manager and about 2/3 of her bloated so-called 'Planning Staff'. Let them go redevelop Route 1 in Prince William County, where they're desperately needed.

Notice where almost all the sports, entertainment, and recreation money is going? To team sports and big organized sports, recreation and entertainment groups. Expensive facilitiea and a bloated bureaucracy.

My kid does not do youth soccer. She rides her bicycle a mile to math and science enrichment classes.

If Arlington's sports program is so great why are there so many overweight and obese kids in Arlington?

Why did the Aquatic Center gimme gang send someone who's thirty pounds overweight to the County Board meeting to preach the benefits of water polo?
