Four Mile Run - Future Flood Problem

Hello Yupette,

I live in East Falls Church, not far from Four Mile Run.

There was flooding along Four Mile Run this past weekend.

Thanks for the posts about the redevelopment of East Falls Church and Columbia Pike.

Before any more 'planning' is done to redevelop EFC and the Pike there needs to be a comprehensive survey of the Four Mile Run watershed to see how much more run off from buildings and parking lots is going to be dumped into Four Mile Run.

Like many others in my neighborhood, I oppose any more 'urbanization' of Arlington County.

The 'planning' decisions are made by people who aren't Arlington residents. Approved by County Board members who will be retired and otherwise have moved on when there is flooding caused by redevelopment.

Four Mile Run is becoming a storm water drainage channel and no one is concerned about how much storm water will be going into the channel.

'Planning' in Arlington is done by a huge bureaucracy of non-residents who see total urbanization as total job security until they retire to a rancho deluxe in Montana.

Flooding along Four Mile Run? Another wonderful result of 'Smart Growth'.

Why should Zimmerman care? He lives at the top of a hill 200 feet above Four Mile Run and across the street is a wilderness preservation area.

Read the Sun Gazette lately? Sleazy Scotty McCaffrey and his Chamber of Commerce pals are hyping total urbanization.

No one, except for those directly affected, apparently cares about the environmental impacts of Clarendoning every suburban neighborhood in Arlington.

Arlington County planning policy is to promote storm water explosion.

Who in County Government signs off on building permits for in-fill McMansions? The water drains off the lot after a storm onto the sidewalk and into the street.

The Arlington County Planning Machine is insatiable. It's out to devour every residential neighborhood that hasn't already been Yuppified. Controlled by elected officials who are going to move on within 5 years. Driven by "planners" who are not residents.

I notice the out-of-county residents who work for Planning and Economic Development almost all drive into work at 2100 Clarendon Blvd one per upscale SUV. Smart Growth?

Yupette, it's about time the County means what it says and says what it means. Arlington County should require all managers to commute by biking, walking or using public transit. County and School Board members should pledge the same. County employees who don't bike, hoof it or use bus or train should have a carbon fee deducted from their paychecks, for deposit in a County Renewable Energy Resource Development Fund.

Who signs off on McMansion building permits? Some guy who lives in a 60's split level on a 1 acre lot in PW County.

Chris Zimmerman and Jay Fisette both want to run for Jim Moran's job when he retires. Meaning they want to move on. Barbara Favola does want to move on and may be outta here in January. So that leaves Nada Tejada and Whitlow's Mary who MAY be on the County Board in 5 years.

Only person in local politics who takes bicycles seriously is Audrey Clement, because she doesn't own a car. With Jay Fisette bicycles are just a gimmick.

Flooding on Four Mile Run occurred in Walter Tejada's neighborhood last weekend.
