Time for County Board to Reveal Federal Income Tax Data

Hello, Yupette,

What do County Board members actually do in the County board offices, besides play politics, meet with the gimme groups to discuss how many tax dollars will be allocated to buy votes, and meet with developers?

One thing Walter Tejada and Jay Fisette do is use their tenures on the County Board to enrich themselves. Jay Fisette steers corporations that want to do business with or in Arlington County to his domestic partner's consulting corporation. Walter Tejada has a number of 'consulting ventures' facilitated by his de facto position as Arlington's Roving Sister Cities Ambassador.

None of that shows up on their annual financial disclosure forms. So, it's time that Jay and Walter, and the other County Board members, disclosed their federal 1040s. Also, Jay's domestic partner's personal and corporate federal tax data. Of course that would lead to immediate calls for resignation(s). And it would be also be obvious to everyone that Jay and his domestic partner could write personal checks to cover the Artisphere's annual deficits.

I would also know how much of a performance bonus Marymount pays Barbara Favola for serving as its Chief Lobbyist.

I would like to see the IRS Form 990 from all the local Gimme Groups put on-line.

Bottom line - elected officials and a political party that have been in complete control too too long.

This stuff's been going on for years. Why we need a multi-party system in Arlington.

Yaaaawwwwnnnn. What do expect after 30 years of near-complete one-party control?

No money for street paving but plenty of money for $15,000 gifts to gimme groups. Can I have a $15,000 gimme grant to redo my kitchen?

Where is ACTA?

County Board put all its friends on the boards of non-profit Gimme Groups.

Arlington County is not a Socialist Republic. It's a huge black hole that sucks tax dollars into pet projects and into the pockets of the County Board and the County Board's pet people. It's like a Ponzi Scheme where the elite get rewarded for preserving the status quo using money stripped from essential services.

ACTA is another all talk, no action NGO / non-profit.

If any Arlington non-profit or non-government organization tries to do anything pro-active its leadership is threatened with being voted out of office and replaced with people who will 'go along with the program'.

Yes, that's exactly the problem. It's not just one thing that's wrong with Arlington. It's everything. People are selected to chair the commissions, committees, civic associations, civic federation, political parties, non-profits, non-governmental organizations, everything, based on their ability to "go along with the program" not on their ability to change and challenge the program to better serve everyone's needs in the 21st Century.

Yes. County Government only listens to itself, its pet people, and its pet special interests (non-profit and for-profit).

Speaking of sleaze, Sun Gazette Editor Scott McCaffrey's 1040 would show he earns more than $150,000 / year, not counting all the gifts, gratuities, and 'comps' he demands and receives for endorsements and favorable coverage and editorials.

McCaffrey is constantly looking to be 'comped' by the for-profits and non-profits he writes favorable articles about. He's even admitted it on a couple of occasions.

If $$$cotty doesn't want people to know how much he earns and receives in 'comps' he shouldn't tell anyone.

$$$cotty should have the same right as the County Board to be 'comped' by Dominion Resources, Washington Gas, and the other fossil fuel utilities.

$cotty is a Tom DeLay Fellow and Executive Committee member at the Arlington Chamber of Commerce. So getting "comped" for reporting the news is the rule, not the exception. BTW, Arlington Chamber of Commerce President Rich Doud approves all of $cotty's news and editorial copy for publication in the "Sun Fi$ette".

After-tax profits are up to 30% again at American Community Newspapers, Sun Gazette's parent. Big bonuses all around to Scotty and the other ACN Editors.
