Wayne Wows CivFed With Minor Changes to a Bloated and Out-of-Control County Government

Hey Yupette,

Wayne Kubicki was a big hit at the Arlington Civic Federation budget meeting last night. His Revenues and Expenditures Committee report called for creation of an Inspector General, and a cut in the tax rate. Trouble is, Wayne didn't begin to touch the $100 to $200 million of waste and mismanagement in the County's $1 billion FY 2012 budget.

The County Board depends on lots of paygo and bond funds to buy votes from special interests and pay for its own extravagant pet projects, so it's unlikely they would want an IG looking over Barbara Donnellan's shoulder.

Give Wayne a lot of credit for political savvy. What the CivFed's R & E Committee proposed would take nothing from anyone except the County Board. Unfortunately, Arlington County is a financial disaster waiting to happen. But as long as Democratic County Board candidates can count on receiving 60% of the vote, election after election, nothing will change.

Yeah, I noticed Wayne's R&E Committee even gave the richy riches who run the Artisphere $400,000 for FY 12.

They are talking about spending $250,000 here and saving $300,000 there. They allow at least 300 kids whose parent aren't Arlington residents to illegally attend Arlington schools. Contact your local CivFed Delegate, ACDC, or ACRC Ward Heeler for a permission slip.

Tell me about it. What did Wayne have to say about the new Cherrydale Fire Station that's so far cost $17.5 million and MAY be completed by June and needs a new EMS vehicle and a lot of other nickel and dime ($50,000 and $100,000 "stuff") before it's officially completed.

Wayne was too busy this year working with Scott McCaffrey putting the final touches on Antonelli's next Jane Barcroft novel to do a serious analysis of the County's financial mess.

Wayne was also extremely busy helping James O'Keefe make a secret video of which Repubs mumble the Pledge of Allegiance at CivFed meetings.

Did Wayne and the R&E Committee ever look at the County Board's Consent Agenda? Nickel and dime? Try $250,000, $400,000, $800,000, $1.2 million for the County Board's pet people, organizations, and projects.

Wayne is a Finance Reitminister at the Akridge REIT. In case you wondered why CPHD's bloated staff and budget are off-limits.

Reitsminister of Finance Kubicki and the other members of the R & E committee could have easily written personal checks to cover the cost of basic Lubber Run renovations.

Jay Fisette and his fellow live theater fans could easily write personal checks to cover the cost of Artisphere operations.

Akridge is rumored to be the REIT Zimmerman will pick to redevelop EFC.

I have to believe what I've heard dozens of times, Arlington County is run by a group of insiders - the Republicrats.

Akridge CEO "Chip" Akridge is a good Democratic buddy of Jim Moran and Jim's D.C. developer wife, LuAnn Moran.

Akridge is redeveloping a large parcel of land on Rt 29 just inside the City of Falls Church.

Akridge is on Zimmerman's short list of EFC dumb growth redevelopers.

Duh, let me see if I understand this. Kubicki's company is likely to be chosen to redevelop EFC by the County Board that Kubicki is supposedly putting under his fiscal microscope? Is that legal?
