Neighboring States Way Ahead of Fi$ette-Dominion 'Fossil Fuels Forever Follies'

Hello, Yupette,

While County Board Member Jay Fi$ette and his good buds at Dominion Resources have rigged his so-called 'Energy Task Force' to ensure that Dominion Resources and the other Virginia energy companies keep on burning fossil fuels, neighboring states are making solar a major component of their energy policy for the next decade. In North Carolina, Duke Energy is committed to producing 12.5 percent of North Carolina's electric energy from solar by 2021. In New York, the state is providing $25 million this year in grants for residential solar water heating systems and providing major energy credits to corporations that install solar water heating systems. In New Jersey, the state's utility is installing solar panels on street light poles that will produce 40 megawatts of electric power when the project is completed. Even the City of Alexandria stood up to Dominion and had solar water heating and geothermal installed at Minnie Howard School.

We need Jay Fi$ette, Walter Tejada, and Mary Hynes on the County Board like we need the Arti$phere. I'm voting for the Green Party's candidate Audrey Clement. We've heard enough from committees packed with pet people that cater to Dominion and the other polluters.

Solar panels on street light poles? Jay recently made a deal with Dominion whereby Dominion doesn't have to replace its energy inefficient streets lights in Arlington for another 16 years.

Where do Fi$$ette, Tejada, Hynes and the County Board stand on the Mirant coal-fired generating plant that's located on the GW Parkway 1/2 mile from Arlington? Oh, that's not on Jay's energy task force agenda.

Want to know two things that anger Libby Garvey? Ask her why solar water heating can't be installed at Abingdon School (1/2 mile from Libby's home which is 1/4 mile from Minnie Howard School) and why the drop-out rate at Wakefield can't be lowered.

Look at the media - Post, Sun Gazette, FC News Press, Alexandria newspapers. Shills for Dominion and the fossil fuel utilities.

Arlington is the worst. Developers like John $hoo$han think nothing about contributing $25,000 to Favola's campaign but fight any attempts to install renewable energy on-site when they develop a site.

Unlike the U.S. Chamber of Commerce the Arlington Chamber of Commerce opposes renewable energy. Arlington Chamber is totally dominated by Dominion. It gets worse, Sun Gazette Editor Scott McCaffrey is on the Arlington Chamber's Executive Committee. Talk about sleazy conflict-of-interest 'journalism'.

Seen anything about on-site renewable energy in the Arlington blogs that run paid advertising?

I gotta laugh at the Potomac Overlook Nature Center. The Energerium is being taken over by stuffed birds, they finally got the 200 watt solar panels working again, place is heated by natural gas, and now there's a charging station for an electric vehicle; electricity will come from a coal-fired or nuclear plant.

Speaking of Barbara Favola, how come no renewable energy on-site at the $14.5 million Cherrydale fire station or the new buildings on the Marymount campus?

Hear anything at the Kubicki Theater about renewable energy in next year's budget? For what the Artisphere has so far cost ($16 million) we could have solar water heating on all the schools.

The fact that solar water heating would pay for itself in 5 years offends the Chamber of Commerce Republicans who operate the Kubicki Theater.

Fi$ette and his domestic partner, Bob Ro$en are so wealthy from Jay's contacts made during his County Board service that they could tear down their home in A$hton Hts. and build a totally Green home in its place.

Favola, Fi$ette, Hynes and Tejada were the recipients of 'corporate giving' by Dominion Resources last year.

Dominion is nuts. There's trillions of cubic feet of natural gas in shale deposits 100 miles from Richmond and all Dominion wants to do is burn more coal. Also plenty of ridges in western VA for wind farms.

Residents of Rockingham County are furious about the fossil fuell corporations planning major shale fracturing operations.
