Kubicki Theater? County Board Set to Pass a Bloated Budget, Then Vote for Vanity Projects

Hi Ms. Yupette,

Your posting about 'Kubicki Theater' at last week's Civic Federation meeting was right-on. But I can go you one better - next Saturday's County Board meeting. County Board is going to pass a bloated budget, raise taxes, give itself a big raise, and then vote to fund its pet vanity projects, the $130 million Aquatics-Indoor Recreation Center, the $140 million Route 1 streetcar, fund non-profits to gentrify the middle class out of market-rate affordable rental apartments, fund the poverty pimps who keep the homeless homeless, approve Jay Fisette's energy task force fossil fuels forever charade, and so on. All on the consent agenda. No discussion wanted. Then the County Board moves on to the main event, redevelopment of East Falls Church. It's all on-line at arlingtonva.us

Odds are even that Kubicki's REIT, Akridge, will be the redeveloper of EFC.

Did the Civic Federation fail to recognize anyone from the 'development for the sake of development' crowd at their banquet on Friday?

That's only the half of it.

Each spring the Reitsfuhrer, the Reitsminister and the Reitsregierung adopt a show spending plan.

Their liar's budget is framed by a set of pleasing calculations that bear little relationship to the actual spending that takes place after the fiscal year begins on July 1st.

As the year goes by, pet political projects demanded by the political insiders and developers are dumped into the budget till, preferred mode the consent agenda. That's the Arlington way -- political elite and developers always get their way in the end.

I hear the Shooshan Company (Founders Square) has a leg up in getting devlopment rights for EFC. Family members and employees have all been told to make big contribtutions to Barabara Favola's Senate campaign.

Paulie Ferguson ;-( Does anyone remember whether any public infrastructure project ever was constructed on-time and under-budget when Paulie was on the County Board?

Paulie and Jay created a traffic and parking mess in Shirlington. Of course when Paulie wants to do anything in a truly livable community he walks across Quaker Lane to Alexandria.

Barbara Favola is moving up and out. She and Mary Margaret Whipple drew the 31st Senate District boundaries so Barbara will have a plausible reason to move to McLean and hang out with Northern Virginia's movers and shakers (e.g., Jim and LuAnn Moran).

Have you seen the new boundaries of the 30th Senate District? A lot more of Arlington County than Shirlington, Fairlington, and Abingdon precincts.

People, don't say you weren't informed by this blog. We have one-party government in Arlington. The Plutocrat Party.

Anon., if Chip Akridge wants to redevelop EFC Akridge will redevelop EFC. Want to know how bad the political influence gets? Akridge is redeveloping a large parcel on Lee Hwy. across from LF Jennings's headquarters. So the pols in FC pick a DC developer over a developer that pays taxes in FC and hires locally.

As things stand now, Favola's senate district would not include EFC.

Congressman Moran will brief the County Board this afternoon about funding the Pike streetcars, 2:30 PM in the County Board Room, 2100 Clarendon Blvd., 3rd Floor.

So, who attended the meeting with Jim Moran this afternoon? County Board, County Manager, County Attorney, CPRO, County Staff from Transportation and CPHD.

This is insane. Spending $140 million to put 10 streetcars on the Pike while 2,000 children are scheduled to attend class in trailer classrooms.

Keep voting for all those wonderful incumbents.

Congressman Moran was exasperated with the County Board's Gimmee, Gimmee, Gimmee.
