Pike Form Based Urbanization Gathers Momentum

Hi Yupette,

Boss Zimmerman's Form Based Charade for the Pike is gathering momentum. Scheduled for Saturday, March 26th is the Foxcroft Heights gentrification charade, facilitated by Zimmerman's national gentrification specialist, Dover, Kohl, and Associates. Charade will be held at the Sheraton National Hotel, 900 South Orme Street between 1 and 4. (Who is paying for this)?

On Monday, March 28th, a preliminary form based charade will be held at 2100 Clarendon Blvd, between 9 PM and 10 PM regarding the dumb growth redevelopment of the Rosenthal auto dealership site, Columbia Pike and Glebe Road. The proposed development calls for the construction of 350 parking spaces on-site. Duh.

As usual, these charades are produced by county staff who don't live in the County to benefit the County Board's pet REITs and developers. It's all about money, not about us.

The traffic in the neighborhoods around Glebe and the Pike is already a mess.

Zimmerman and Favola attended today and helped Dover, Kohl and County Staff 'facilitate' the Foxcroft Heights neighbors who attended. Many Foxcroft Heights neighbors don't know what's going on, although some signed a petition stating that they want nothing to do with the County's plans for replaceement of affordable small single family, market rate apartments, and townhomes with expensive mixed-use redevelopment.

Pike Rider said...

It was obvious from Zimmerman's behavior today that he badly wants Foxcroft Heights totally redeveloped.

This is a diverse neighborhood, but maybe one or two minority group members attended. I understand information regarding this planning charade was not generally available to the neighborhood.

Coach Zimmerman was sending in plays from the sideline while Dover, Kohl and County Staff were 'facilitating' the Foxcroft Hts. residents.

Zimmerman appeared very happy that Foxcroft Hts. will become another 'redevelopment opportunity' for another out-of-state REIT.

I thought County Board members were elected to serve the interests of Arlington Residents, not out-of-state REITs, planners, and developers.

Zimmerman and planning lackeys shutting down Southgate Rd to force Henderson Hall traffic through neighborhood and convince families to sell out -- evil chicanery.

First generation immigrant tight knit families in Foxcroft Heights won't patronize yupscale bars and bistros along Columbia Pike. That being so, out they go says Zimmerman.

This is a neighborhood whose residents should be afforded opportunities to upgrade their homes and landlords their small market rate rental apartment buildings. Instead it's a "redevelopment opportunity' for Dover, Kohl, which has apparently been awarded the franchise to gentrify the middle c;ass out of Arlington.

Zimmerman says War Department stopped short when it bulldozed Queen City working class, minority neighborhood in 1941 to build the Pentagon during a national emergency. Der REITs fuhrer declares trolley emergency to finish the job. Planning staff salutes smartly, "Jawohl Mein Herren!"

Achtung, Juden !! said...

Reitsfuhrer Zimmerman was jumping for joy and clicking his heels today as the facilitation unfolded and he helped ensure that more of the 'undesirable classes' are eliminated from Arlington as part of his 'final solution.'

Dover, Kohl repeatedly uses Savannah, Georgia, as a 'success story'. Except former Arlington County Manager Mike Brown made his career gentrifying Savannah, before he was hired in 2009 to do the same in Arlington.

Anonymous said...

Dover, Kohl also impresses the Sheeple with photos taken of upscale streetscapes featuring 50 year old trees. Reality check, Courthouse Plaza pavement and streetscape outside the County Board's offices after 25 years, a disaster.

We should all be asking - "Where's the Loot?" Dover, Kohl is a wealthy partnership that gets wealthier gentrifying the middle class out of their homes across America. So what do Zimmerman, Favola, Fisette, Hynes, and Tejada obtain in returen for being Dover, Kohl cheerleaders?

FYI, the local media, including the FC News-Press, Arlington Sun Gazette, the for-profit blogs (Arl Now and Pike Wire) and of course the Washington Fentyfication Post are looking for big profits from the total urbanization of Arlington.

Pike Rider said...

Pike Wire and Arl Now blogs are shills for total yuppification.

Kim - 22204 said...

County Board (all of them) hate the middle class and despise minorities.

Dover, Kohl and County staff show residents of neighborhoods like Foxcrodft Hts. photo after photo of upscale historic neighborhoods, but what they actually build are canyons of tall ugly buildings.

Anonymous said...

Almost no minority group members attend the charade meetings.

Pike Wire and Arl Now are paid blogs whose owners earn at least $1000 a week from pro-redevelopment advertising, informercials, and consulting services provided to Pike and other Arlington businesses.

Somebody tell Scotty McCaffrey that if he doesn't want to return home from work and find household objects have been moved around he should install high security door locks.

Dover, Kohl and County Staff are engaged in 'blockbusting'. That is, residents of low-density neighborhoods like Foxcroft Heights are shown Powerpoint slides of parking lots and small commercial parcels adjacent to their homes and told if redevelopment occurs they will be looking at a large building towering over their 2-story townhouse and they should consider 'going along with the program'.

Rosenthal site has been discussed by the County Board for months. It will be a huge redevelopment, 500 housing units, at least 350 new parking spaces.

Anonymous said...

Redevelopment of Rosenthal site means residents will need to drive their Dodge, Jeep and Chrysler cars outside the beltway for servicing -- part of the County's drive further, push out middle class jobs and send your greenbacks elsehwere initiative.

22204 said...

Zimmerman could care less about the effect of the Rosenthal Site's mega-developmnet on his own neighbors' quality of life.

Lee Hwy said...

Next two up for redevelopment are the Bergmann's Dry Cleaners and Key Apartments.

Anonymous said...

So why isn't the Rosenthal mega-development being discussed at 7 PM tonight at the Walter Reed Community Center? Or at the Douglas Park Elementary School?

Anonymous said...

Rosenthal is being vetted in sessions with hand-picked by Democratic precinct captain representatives assigned to advisory cabals, one per neighborhood. One member of the club represents all, with no notice or outreach to residents. Ordinary citizens need not get involved and will not be heard. Apply at the ACDC or not at all.

Inta Mallis is the new Carrie Johnson -- the force behind Rosenthal and Foxcroft Heights.

Anonymous said...

Inta Malis was at Zimmerman's side at the Foxcroft Heights charade last Saturday.

So what upscale gated community is she retiring to in 5 years?

Anonymous said...

Inta Malis is the Reitsfuhrer's Reitsminister for Sheeple Facilitation.

I have to laugh out loud. The two biggest supporters of the Shirlingtonization of all of Arlington, Paulie Ferguson and Libby Garvey, live across Quaker Lane from a diverse livable community, but it's in Alexandria, of course.

Anonymous said...

Carrie Johnson still makes guest appearances. Another one, like Nanny Nancy Hunt, who destroy the quality of life in residential neighborhoods along arterials then split for Gated Retirement Village.

L O L said...

Upon her retirement from the Planning Commission Carrie Johnson was named an 'Honorary Republican Club Woman' by the Arlington Republican Committee.

Know what the ACDC Ward Heelers get in return? They get to run a non-profit that keeps the homeless homeless and pays them $200,000 a year.

2100 said...

Reality Check - Zimmerman is to Arlington as Mubarak was to Egypt.

Anonymous said...

Don't talk about Alexandria -- that's where they actually try to preserve communities -- development for development's sake is only spoken on vacant and commercial properties there.

22204 said...

Yupette, the Rosenthal Site re-development is a Done Deal. The Democratic Ward Heelers Zimmerman appoints to these rubber stamp committees rubber stamped their approval tonight. Never mind that the parking garages already approved for this re-development will put a lot more traffic on the Pike.

22206 said...

Paulie Ferguson's and Libby Garvey's neighbors DESPISE Shirlington. They walk across Quaker Lane to be in something that Arlington lacks (except possibly for Westover) - a livable community.

Zimmerman wants to do Arlington what Gerry Connally did to Fairfax County, then join Gerry in Congress and be a Bad Ass Democrat like Gerry.

Anonymous said...

No minority group members in attendance last night. Same old crowd from Ashton Hts., Lyon Park, etc. Inta Malis chaired the meeting.

Jorge said...

No minorities attended. White People Only. Just Like the Leadership Arlington Gala. Except for Nada Tejada. Resegregation through Gentrification? Absolutely!

This redevelopment will create 350 residential and 111 retail parking spaces, FYI.
