Favola Has 'Massive' Conflicts of Interest

Hello, Ms. Yupette,

I live in Williamsburg and I am also associated with Marymount University.

Barbara Favola is, in fact, a lobbyist for Marymount and spends hundreds of hours a year lobbying County Government for Marymount, both at Marymount and from her office at the Arlington County Board. I believe she earns between $80,000 and $100,000 a year working for Marymount and $43,000 per year as a County Board Member.

Barbara is using the other County Board Members and County Staff to push the Marymount-O'Connell sports field upgrade through over the vehement objections of both the Williamsburg and East Falls Church Civic Associations, and neighborhood residents.

Barbara, the County Board, and County Staff have already spent hundreds of hours on 'facilitating' the Marymount-O'Connell sports field upgrade. It appears they will defer the use permit amendment that's coming before the County Board on March 15th until June 15th to give County Staff and their pet 'community leaders' time to wear down Bishop O'Connell's neighbors.

Barbara is running for Virginia State Senate and she is also demanding campaign contributions from those who support the Marymount and O'Connell sports programs.

I am outraged. Williamsburg and East Falls Church have become opportunities for every special interest and developer in the region to destroy our quality of life for their own benefit.

Barbara Favola should not be running for State Senate, she should be removed from public office.

Mary, Williamsburg

The worst part of this is that she orders county staff, paid by us, to help her.

Mary, Barbara told the sports enthusiasts at O'Connell and Marymount that they better get out their checkbooks after she deals with the 'neighborhood nimbys' and write big checks to Barbara's and Libby's campaigns.

I am happy to see someone is finally calling Barbara Favola what she is and has been for years: a corrupt Hartford pol.

Ever wonder why so many Assistant County Managers moved on after a year or two?

Barbara also coordinated tonight's County Board circus, which is part of her VA Senate campaign strategy to obtain lots of volunteers and lots of contributions from Marymount and O'Connell alumni.

Do any Latino and Latina students attend Bishop O'Connell? If so, how many?

All Barbara Favola does besides lobbying for Marymount is promote herself and give handouts to non-profits paid for by Arlington taxpayers.

Barbara also wants State and Local funding to grow Marymount's NCAA sports programs.

O'Connell is obviously run by and for brain dead, sports-crazed, Pro-Life, sheeple, aka Catholic Educators.

Last I heard, Barbara Favola is Episcopalian, and their three priorities are amassing wealth, tastefully displaying amassed wealth, and putting as much distance between themselves and the non-wealthy as possible.

Yes, the County Board should be talking about how to fund the education of 5,000 more kids in the public schools by 2016. Instead they are facilitating a Pro-Life sports program.

Want to know the extent of the County Board's dealings with developers and special interests? Call the County Manager's office (228-3120) and do a freedom of information act request for their appointment calendars.

Only 12% of O'Connell students live in Arlington. More sports? Where's the concern about Arlington's overcrowded public schools?

Are you happy Yupette? County Board voted down lights last night at Bishop O'Connell. So students who attend private schools, are willing to pay their own way and relieve taxpayer burdens, can't get the same deal as public school students. This act will be repeatedly cited by CB as indicating their concern for the neighborhood when they go full bore on the EFC Tysons III binge. Sometimes it pays to be less paracial.

Zimmerman was PO'd that Barbara put the County Board in the position of having to referee a major neighborhood brawl as the result of her lobbying for field lighting to benefit Marymount.

Bishop O'Connell is a classic Catholic high school whose students, faculty, administration, and alumni think they are better than everyone else. This is a regional high school with wealthy and successful alumni. So build a regional team sports complex and take your teams there in school vans.

Anon., go to the County Board's Web site and review last Saturday's County Board meeting, agenda item 31, EFC redevelopment, and you will see that the County Board has zero respect for residential neighborhoods, we are 'redevelopment opportunities'.

O'Connell and Marymount alumni, faculty, students, administrators, can make out their checks to "Favola and Garvey Joint Senate Campaign".

Been there said...

Why should residents of neighborhoods near O'Connell wonder why O'Connell was so secretive? Why do you think sexual abuse in Catholic schools went on for generations? Secrecy is part of the program.

County Board has Z E R O respect for residential neighborhoods.

Barbara Favola should not be in elected office. She's been using her position on the County Board to obtain major taxpayer funded benefits for Marymount and her favorite charities for over a decade.

I want her to pay the taxpayers back for the time she spends lobbying for Marymount at 2100 Clarendon Blvd.. Outrageous. A lobbyist elected to a local jurisdiction that spends over a billion dollars a year. Thank you Yupette for finally calling her on this, should have been done a decade ago.

Why are O'Connell's wealthy and successful alumni only heard when the issue is receiving a Gimme from Arlington County?
