Merry Christmas in December - from the County Board

Hey, Yupette.

County Board's agenda for the next meetings is on the Net. Plenty of gifts for everyone - $33.2 million for the schools (works out to $33,200 per student for the projected 1,000 student increase next year) $31 million for Arlington Mill, $18.2 million for 'transit development' and so on. When will it end? Probably when the bond rating agencies stop being facilitated by the County Manager and drop the County's bond rating to AA.

By the time Zimmerman leaves the County Board the County's bonds will be rated Zz.

I don't know why Barbara Donnellan says the County's finances are in good shape. Appears to me that the schools and the CB's personal wants will force residential and commercial increases of 5% or more each year for the next decade.

How about a thread about taxicabs...which the County Board doesn't want?

I think some responsible citizens should communicate with the bond rating agencies. The County's AAA rating gives it the feeling it can keep spending recklessly.

How are the County Board and School system being fiscally responsible when the per-pupil cost of adding 1,000 students to the school system next year will be more than $33,000? This apparently does not include adding any additional brick-and-mortar classrooms next year. How about a thread, Yupette?

This is what we get when we have school board members elected and re-elected based on their resumes. Abby Raphael for School Board? No Way!

How about the $7.5 million for the new Cherrydale fire stations, which does not include the $5.5 gift to the Koons Auto Empire, nor apparently the cost of new fire equipment and interior furnishings? How much will the new Cherrydale fire station actually cost?

How about the Ballston BID propoasl on the agenda? A big slush fund for two new live theater groups Jay Fisette has planned for Ballston.

Have you noticed? Scott McCaffrey, Editor of the Sun Gazette, aka the Sun Fisette, has become a bigger booster of the chamber of commerce and county government than Nick Benton ever was in Falls Church.

Columbia Pike BID is yet to come, not to pay for the trolley, but to siphon off the revenues that supposedly justify the trolley investment.

Anyone seen an agenda item for an emergency homeless shelter, aka homeless prevention and treatment facility?

Koons steal is typical of the way the county hands out welfare to the wealthy. Koons is worth a billion dollars. They won't even donate a used pickup or SUV to the County for fire-EMS use. BTW, KOONS uses every gimmick possible to avoid paying taxes and it's the vehicles' owners / purchasers who pay sales taxes and other taxes.

Hey, how about the County Board's retirement package for 'senior management'?

I would like to know the total fitted out cost of the new Cherrydale fire station (including what was paid in salaries to County Staff over the past 20 years) and what the fire station would have cost if it were constructed in 1990.

If you totaled all the expenses related to the planning and construction of the new Cherrydale fore station since 1990 the total would be over $25 million.
