Virginia, Maryland, D.C. Adults Seeking to "Sunset" Zimmerman, Graham, Other WMATA Board Members

Hello, Yupette,

The Adults in Virginia, Maryland, and DC politics have heard too many excuses from Jim Graham and Chris Zimmerman for Metro's poor performance. They are seeking to "sunset" both for having been on the WMATA Board too long with WMATA's performance and service quality gradually deteriorating. The recent escalator incidents were apparently the last straw. Other current WMATA members may follow Graham and Zimmerman into retirement. Thanks for your blog.

I would like to see Graham and Zimmmerman retired all right. Retired as cellmates to the Allenwood Federal Correction Facility for criminally negligent homicide.

If Chris were sent to Allenwood he couldn't kick his wife out of bed for work at 6 AM while he slept to 10 AM.

I'm another fed up Democrat. The faster Chris Zimmerman is kicked off the Metro Board the safer everyone who uses the Metro rail and bus systems will be.

Anyone who examines recent WMATA history will soon discern that the problems started soon after Zimmerman joined the Metro board.

Zimmerman is the worst, steals from basic infrastructure needs both at WMATA and on the Arlington County Board to fund pet projects. That's why the tracks, escalators, etc., deteriorated. That's why Arlington streets became a mess and Zimmerman resorted to using bond funds for street paving.

Wait until you see the mess a trolley will bring to Columbia Pike.

Zimmerman skimped on basic safety to install cosmetics on the trains and buses.

The tracks were filthy, covered with dirt, grease, rust, and water from leaking tunnels. I wonder if we will ever know all the times track sensors failed.

Look at the Shirlington Metrobus station. Supposedly cost $5 million due to delays and engineering screw-ups.

Time for a Tea Party in Arlington.

Yes I take a cab home instead of riding Zimmerman's screwed up Metro. Costs me $30 more a week. Saves me hours. I am much happier when I arrive home.

and then there are finances said...

Zimmerman's transportation vanity regime built up $1.5 billion in unfunded WMATA retirement liabilities. When the bills come due cab rides will seem cheap.

Plus, if you take a cab you don't have to walk down one broken escalator and up another.

Know the ONE transportation system that works and works well? Slug Lines. Which the Transportation Gurus want to end.

Sad truth is that Metrorail and Metrobus were designed for a Washington Region of 1970, not for a Washington Region of 2010. They were designed for a small city and its suburbs, not for a large city and its satellite urban areas.

Correct. And Zimmerman, Graham, Euille, Moran, and others are responsible for the in-fill mega-developments that caused Metro's capacity problems while refusing to make Metro flexible and responsive to growth. Nothing was learned from the Blue and Orange line design deficiencies when designing the Green line and now the Silver Line.

I'd like to see Zimmerman retired as well.
