County Board Heavily Promoting Bicycles, Ignoring Taxis and Shared-Vehicle Transportation Alternatives.

Hello Yupette,

Did you hear what the guy from the taxicab industry said at the last County Board Meeting? There is an abundance of taxicabs in Arlington County. So why isn't the County Board promoting taxicabs as a means of significantly mitigating traffic? Because the County Board wants everyone to ride bicycles. They spent another $421,000 on bicycle infrastructure around Army-Navy Drive at their last meeting. Same County Board that approved the construction of more than 30,000 new parking spaces in Arlington over the past decade. What is wrong with them? Why do I have to ride a bicycle in December when it's 45 degrees and raining?

Did you see the latest version of the County Board's idiotic Master Transportation Streets Element Plan? Bicycles, Bicycles, Bicycles.

What can you expect from Yuptards?

I refuse to freeze to death again this winter waiting after 9 PM on a Metrobus platform at the Pentagon for a Metrobus that never shows up. I'm just calling a cab at my office

Anyone know the date of the bicycle hugfest at the Artisphere?

I took AMTRAK to Wilmington on a business day trip two weeks ago. Even the backpackers were catching a cab at Union Station rather than take Metro.

County Manager Barbara Donnellan just stated that Arlington residents can expect a cut in services and a take hike next year. Obviously that doesn't include the live theater, synthetic playing field, and bicycle special interests.

Prediction: Zimmerman's Trolley Folly, Fisette's new live theater projects for Ballston, and Nada Tejada's new synthetic surface soccer fields will be fully funded.

Appears that citizens won't be able to voice comments at the December 2nd budget forum. They have become so dishonest it's frightening.

Time for a Tea Party in Arlington.

The word "taxicab" is not mentioned and "carpooling" is only mentioned once in the draft MTP for Streets.

What's in store for Arlington via the County Board's "Master Transportation Plan"? More traffic. More traffic calming. More everyone ride bicycles.

More street people on the streets. Don't forget that.

Metrobus ridership is down. Gee, I wonder why? I also take a cab home late at night - after 8 PM. Avoids the problems with late-PM Metrobus service.

People, Chris Zimmerman doesn't live anywhere near a Metro station. It's unclear how often hew rides a Metrobus.

The "Arlington Master Transportation Plan Streets Element" was written by by the County's transportation bureaucracy to the County Board's specifications.

County Board subsidizes single-passenger luxury hybrid SUV's and taxes mini-vans as part of its families' first initiative.

Did you see the article in eh Post's Metro Section today about bicycle sharing in DC? Another Fenty-Yuppie-Gentrification gimmick.

Kathy R. said...

Zimmerman, Fenty, Fisette, Euille, and the other inside the beltway total yuppification proponents can't allow taxicabs to pick up people at their residences 24/7/365. That would mean people wouldn't have to walk 1/2 mile to a Metro station, stand around 1/2 hour in the rain waiting for a Metrobus, or ride a bicycle to work on snow-covered streets.

I don't own an auto. I do spend $40 per week on taxis. Time for the Arlington County Board to GROW UP. You are all over 50 and still pushing this Yuppie stuff on everyone. It was old 20 years ago.

Know what the County Transportation Division's Comprehensive Bicycle, Pedestrian, Motor Vehicle, Safety Plan is? Install more "traffic calming" at every opportunity.

How can you tell if your middle class DC neighborhood is about to be gentrified? Bike share racks and bicycles appear and no one knows where they came from.

Bicycles are another County Board - Local Media - Chamber of Commerce 'green gimmick' to divert attention from replacing fossil fuels with renewable energy on-site, i.e., solar.
