Hi Yupette,
If you are not concerned about the effects of DOD downsizing you should be. The County's "tax, borrow, and spend" fiscal irresponsibility is the result of vastly increased local federal spending for warfighting, homeland security, and national security. Obviously, Arlington's "decision makers" believe that the feds will go on spending trillions in the same manner for decades. But that is foolish thinking. The federal government has ignored civilian infrastructure needs for more than a decade. And the Feds can't keep borrowing $500 billion a year for much longer. Arlington should brace itself for at least a 10% reduction in local federal spending.

'Civilian Infrastructue Needs'? We're stuck with two Metrorail crossings of the Potomac and a railroad bridge that's antiquated. Meanwhile, the Feds are building 'National Security Underground Infrastructure' all over the region.
County Board actually believes that the Feds can keep sucking hundreds of billions into Virginia to fuel warfighting in the Third World from places like California (12% unemployment rate) and borrowed from countries that don't particularly like the USA, China for example.
County should declare a moratorium on new major infrastructure projects.
I will gladly sign a petition demanding that the County freeze spending for an aquatic center and a Pike trolley.
No funding stream for the aquatic center and derail the trolley!
Zimmerman, Fisette, and Favola will keep deferring essential infrastructure maintenance and upgrades to fund their pet vanity projects, aided and abetted by the NGOs and the local media.
Thumbs Up to the Yupette bloggers who predicted another severe storm would hit the area yesterday or today and cause major damage to trees and widespread power outages.
Yupublicans are upset, they want to keep on warfighting.
Earth to Arlington - Gates is really serious about downsizing DOD.
