Local News Media Are Anti-Environment

Hello, Yupette,

Anyone see any compelling evidence that the local news media are not anti-environment?

Think it's hot now? Wait until July 2025, average daytime temp in DC area will be 105 degrees. many days afternoon temp will be 110.

Especially if 20,000 more in-fill condos are constructed here over the next 15 years.

May be as many as 30,000 new in-fill condos constructed in Arlington by 2025.

At 1.4 parking spaces per condo that would amount to 44,000 new parking spaces in Arlington by 2025. :-{

Looks like the pages of auto ads and real estate ads in Sunday's Post equals all the other "stuff".

Developers don't want to construct big parking garages under condo buildings - the County Board makes them.

Ever seen the Post, Sun Gazette, FC News-Press, Journal Newspapers, etc., editorialize about huge new parking garages? No, that might offend their auto dealer advertisers.

Well, what do you expect will happen when you pave everything over? Parking lots re-radiate heat at 120 degrees and rooftops at 110 degrees.

Looks like we will all be riding bicycles in 2026. Made in China. of course.

Douglas Park in 2025 will be an oasis of summer comfort, thanks to County Board Member for Life Chris Zimmerman.

Zimmerman has a special slice of undeveloped parkland across the street from his home. As for the rest of us he says, "Let them eat cake."

Chinese will all be driving Buicks in 2026. Made in China, of course.

Something has to be said about one of the stupidest and most anti-environment stunts Arlington County ever pulled. Frank O'Leary's car tax decal competition.

Not only unecesaary and wasteful of tax dollars, but generates tons of waste paper and plastic and wastes the time of hundreds of thousands of vehicle owners who have to apply the new decal every year and peel the old decal off.

Of course the local media give this competition a "thumbs up". Why do we have blogs? Because the media are brain dead when it comes to the environment.

So, winning photo for this this year's decal was taken on the Jay Fisette bicycle trail in December. See any bicycles?

Next extravagant waste will be the County plowing bicycle trails in winter so a hundred bicycle fanatics can use them.

Anonymous said...

Yeah, and McCaffrey will run a huge feature about the bicycle fanatics braving the elements.

Let's Be Free said...

Chris Zimmerman will pass another forced labor ordinance requiring citizens to shovel snow off the bike trails.

After that the County will (finally) approve funding for two additional EMS ambulances to respond to bicycle fanatics who have accidents on bike trails and elsewhere during December, January, and February.

Talk about anti-environment what is wrong with the Post's auto editor, Warren Brown?

Ford Mustang with over 400 hp test drive? - hey have to make the auto dealers and oil companies happy.

FYI, you can order a Prius II with two battery packs installed from several Toyota dealers on the West Coast - 80 miles per gallon.

Warren Brown never met a vehicle with under 20 mpg and over 300 hp that he didn't want to review.

Some environmentalists should tell the Post that Global Warming is for real and it's not 1985.

Decal contest is another elected official's ego trip, and the idiotic media go right along.

Hey, Yupette, Chamber of Commerce Scotty gave Zimmerman another Thumbs Up. For allowing more visual pollution around the County.

Jeff said...

Arlington Chamber of Commerce is totally f-ed up. OPPOSES on-site renewable energy - that might offend Washington Gas and Dominion Resources. If you ask why the U.S. Chamber of Commerce ENDORSES on-site renewable energy the Arlington Chamber's Chief Shill for the fossil fuel companies becomes very hostile.

Can we have a thread about the Arlington Chamber's delegation to Communist China making deals with the Communists to outsource American IT jobs that don't require a security clearance? For example, techs who work for trade associations?

OK - that's enough. I'm telling my neighbors to dump the Arlington Sun Gazette aka Arlington Chamber of Commerce shill newspaper into the recycle bin. Who do I contact in the Sun Gazette's parent organization to tell them to stop delivery?

I have concluded that the Post, Sun Gazette, News-Press, local magazines, etc., hate the middle class. What they want is for everyone to own a $2 million McMansion with a Mustang GT in one garage, a Lexus SUV in the other garage, and the third garage full of jet skis and motorcycles.

XXX said...

Anon., you are correct. Print media HATE people who live in small single family homes. We don't spend money on energy pig McMansions and gas guzzler vehicles.
