Please Help Chris Zimmerman

Hello Yupette,

Arlington County Board and WMATA Board member Chris Zimmerman needs help answering the following question:

What happens when 85,000 Metrorail commuters from Tysons and Dulles reach the East Falls Church Metro station at 8 AM weekdays?

Thanks in advance for helping Chris.

Chris Zimmerman is the Guru of Gridlock, right? So guess what we get from Metrorail to Tysons and Dulles? Same thing we're getting from "Smart Growth" in the Rosslyn-Ballston corridor. Seen the intersections of major arterials during peak rush hours lately?

If EFC residents think they have congestion from Ballston-Rosslyn traffic now, wait until Founders Square is completed.

When they offload at East Falls Church passengers can transfer to the Washington & Old Dominion Railroad and continue inbound along Four Mile Run. Oh wait, W&OD is a trail now, not a railroad.

So Chris, how about trails to rails then? Think of all the urban villages you could build along the way -- at Bon Air, Bluemont, Carlin Springs, Arlington Mill, and Barcroft -- fabulous infill opportunities, condos, Starbucks and organic pizzas galore!

A half dozen Shirlingtons! Chris, why you deity of the developers, you!

Developers generally don't want to build big underground garages, County Board requires them to.

Why do you think there have been so many emergency preparedness drills at Metro stations?

Zimmerman has a rocket scientist in his family - his wife. Maybe he should ask her.

Now that the Space Shuttles are about to be given to museums maybe Chris and Mary Beth can get her NASA rocket scientist good buds who developed the Space Shuttle's solid booster o-rings and heat ablation ties onto WMATA's R & D division.

WHAT WMATA R & D division? You must mean Zimmerman's 12-year 'put lipstick on a pig' rider and taxpayer rip-off program to cosmetically 'improve' WMATA's obsolete 2-track 1965-vintage subway system that would be an embarrassment to any 21st Century 3rd World nation.

Chris, why are you asking me such a stupid question? I've been slaving away on post-Shuttle NASA programs all day while you're running from committee to committee. You sleep until 11 and then you are off to meetings. Where's super? I'm hungry. So are the kids. If you can't heat a couple cans of Beefaroni for your children how can you run Metro?

The question was asked several times during Rail to Dulles and Tyson's Tunnel meetings. Never an adequate response.

As I remember the "what happens at the EFC Metro Station" question was asked during a Tysons Tunnel meeting and the response was that commuters would have to be bussed to DC via I-66.

Rail to Dulles was nothing more than a big group of Chamber of Commerce and development boosters. They never cared about efficiently and speedily transporting people from Tysons and Dulles to D.C.

Zimmerman turned over 'transportation planning' to the developers years ago.

The Metro extension and light rail construction programs are part of a massive Yuppie urbanization-gentrification-resegregation program that will make Arlington, Alexandria, Falls Church, Vienna, etc., look like Tysons and Tysons look like Houston.
