County Board Surprises Residents by Endorsing Walter Reed "Improvements"

Hi Yupette,

The County Board pulled a fast one on April 27th on the Fairlington and Claremont communities by passing a resolution endorsing Alexandria's contentious "improvements" to the Walter Reed Drive - King Street intersection which were hotly contested by Fairlington and Claremont residents during public hearings. No one in the local condo associations and civic associations was informed about the proposed resolution.

No one was told about this in Fairlington except perhaps for their pet Republican, Nanny Hunt.

The so-called Fairlington "citizens" association was not informed about this resolution until someone told its delegates at yesterday's CivFed meeting.

This is all about BRAC traffic from the huge office complex being constructed off 395 just south of Arlington.

We are getting really really concerned about traffic into Fairlington and parking. South Fairlington is going to be a traffic and parking mess when the Community Center renovation is completed. No one in county government cares.

Fairlington residents repeatedly expressed concerns about the King Street / South Walter Reed 'improvements' including during a Fairlington Citizens Association meeting last October and we were repeatedly ignored.

The Fairlington Citizens Association is a group of County Board facilitators.

County Board Office didn't put the resolution on-line (search for County Board Resolutions) until citizens called and asked what it was all about.
