Arlington Could Lose Hundreds of Jobs from United - U.S. Airways Merger

Hi Yupette,

See the Wall Street Journal today? United and US Airways are in merger talks. U.S. Airways employs over 1400 people in Arlington. I seriously doubt that the combined company would choose to keep more employees than absolutely necessary in a high cost of living area like Arlington.

Meanwhile, the Arlington Chamber of Commerce is preparing to visit China to find new and creative ways of outsourcing tech jobs that don't require a security clearance.

I would like to know if Arlington County Government is sending anyone to China with the Chamber of Commerce.

Given the current economics of the airline industry, I give it a 50-50 chance of happening.

Call the County Board office at 703-228-3130 and ask who's taking the trip to China with the Chamber.

The job loss would be from HQ employees. Not the pilots or flight attendants.

Latest is the merger will be between United and Continental and U.S. Airways may not survive as a regional carrier.
