DC Region's Future Transportation System : TBARTA.COM

Hi Yupette,

Arlington's future transportation system cannot be based upon Arlington's obsolete subway, light rail, and SOV-based surface transportation planning. To see what a state-of-the-art regional transportation system looks like, visit the Tampa Bay Area Regional Transportation Aurhority's Web site at TBARTA.com

What is interesting is the Tampa Bay regional system will make extensive use of bus rapid transit. Why is light rail even being considered in the DC area? It's slow, expensive to maintain, not as safe as BRT, and will restrict the use of streets because of overhead wires.

What "planning"? Our future is more vanity transportation projects and more single occupant vehicles. That's the "planning".

Auto dealers only want to sell more autos. Developers only want to develop. There is no money to be made for them from a sustainable future.

What we have in the DC Region is a SOV future...with public transit as an inefficient, expensive, charade.

Anyone who believes that the next decade will provide a better quality-of-life than the present decade has is seriously deluded.

The DC area should not be constructing light rail. Bus rapid transit is the way to go. What is it about light rail anyway? Philadelphia and Boston can't wait to retire light rail from streets.

Look at the hoopla made about the Founder's Square mega-infill, which will add 1,500 parking spaces on the former Metrobus repair facility, a couple of blocks from I-66. How many of the 1,500 will be parked by non-SOV vehicles? Not many.

STOP converting freight rail lines to bike trails. TBARTA is renovating Florida's freight rail lines for passenger transit. Northern VA is not San Diego. I am 57 years old and I'm not going to ride a bicycle. I also agree that BRT is the best use of transportation dollars instead of street cars. Why don't the so-called local experts, like Zimmerman, take AMTRAK to Philadelphia to see what is being done there?
