Having accepted a ransom check for $10,000 from Gulf Branch Nature Center supporters so Gulf Branch Nature Center can remain open, the County Board is planning to approve spending $23.7 million to construct Long Branch Park, $460,000 for public art for Long Branch Park, and up to $13 million to construct a new Cherrydale Fire Station.

The Cherrydale Fire Station will cost $13 million.
Construction Cost will be $5 million.
Gift to the Koons Automotive Empire was $5.5 million.
Interior furnishing and interior equipment for the fire station will cost $500,000.
New fire and EMS vehicles and equipment will cost $2 million.
What do the taxpayers receive for the $26 million to be spent on Longbridge Park? About $6 million in "improvements."
That's what happens when the local media are County Board boosters and Chamber of Commerce boosters.
Unless things change, the Cherrydale fire station will be LEED Silver certified and have no renewable energy on-site. Hey, what do you expect for $5.5 million?
Isn't a lot of the cost for Long Bridge park site preparation for the Fiette Aquatics Center and other expensive recreational luxuries?
What has Koons given to the community? The sales taxes generated by the dealership are paid by vehicle and vehicle service purchasers.
If you turn your city / county over to a bunch of hedonistic Yuppies, this is what happens.
CB authorized construction of a new community center on the Pike, for $25 million. Bond funds which will cost the taxpayers about $2.5 million a year to repay starting in 2011.
The $23 million paid for Longbridge park construction doesn't include the cost of the land, which is still being negotiated.
I would like to see what all the parks, recreation, and cultural resources infrastructure will cost in maintenance and staffing.
Favola took an expensive junket to Europe to see where teh Europeans are environmentally. She could have Googled any number of Web sites at no cost. When are these turkeys going to actually do something rather than talk about doing something?
Community center bonds won't have to start being paid off until FY 2012, which will be another dismal year for real estate in Arlington. Things won't get better until FY 2013.
Arlington School Board approved solar and geothermal for the new Wakefield HS, Having been embarrassed by the solar and geothermal systems installed at Minnie Howard School, on the Arlington-Alexandria border.
Was any renewable energy at all approved by the County Board this year?
Longbridge Park moving sculpture may disintegrate during the first major storm after it's installed.
WORST present Arlington school board member (by far) is Libby Garvey, who lives 1/4 mile from Minnie Howard School.
Libby Garvey is Rumor Control in Fairlington. Nancy Hunt is Rumor Central.
