Sun Gazette's Parent Company Files for Chapter 7 Bankruptcy

According to Debtor's motions delivered to the United States Bankruptcy Court in Wilmington Delaware on July 23rd, American Community Newspapers LLC, the successor to American Community Newspapers Inc., is seeking liquidation of assets and winding down of operations, and is seeking the Court's permission to convert from Chapter 11 (reorganization) to Chapter 7 (liquidation). American Community Newspapers LLC is the parent company of the Sun Gazette Newspapers in Virginia.

Maybe Scott McCaffrey's best bud, Jay Fisette, will get Scotty a big bucks no-show job with AVN or AIM.

Try: Director of Media Relations for the County Treasurer or Commissioner of the Revenue. Both great opportunities to take in Nat's games on County time and the taxpayers' dime.

Barcrofter said...

Maybe Scotty, aka Smitty, will have time to peddle Antonelli's next Jane Barcroft fantasy fiction novel.

Anonymous said...

Next Jane Barcroft novel is reported to be extremely violent. Draft copies have been circulated among the usual Arlington Republicans.

All the Yupublicrats are capable of doing is slandering anyone who does not go along with the County Board of Recreation and Entertainment's program, like Arlingtonians who are exasperated because their streets needed repaving 10 years ago. The Sun-Fisette is a big gear in the machine.

Anonymous said...

Antonelli should stay retired. He sounded like a cranky old geezer at the last County Board meeting.

Better Fairlington said...

Maybe Scotty will have time to do something about his shabby neighborhood - broken pavement, terrible street lighting, street trees that haven't been trimmed since they were planted. Or maybe he will be writing in another venue where he can continue to call everyone who is concerned about quality of life (rather than quality of entertainment and recreation) "loopy lefties."

Anyone living in Arlington County and putting up with the idiocy called government has a right to be a cranky old geezer.

L O L said...

Antonelli? LOL. The Republicans who have read the drafts of Antonelli's latest and meanest Jane Barcroft piece of sh, er, slander, just shake their heads.

2100 said...

Now that Jim Mayer is gone Antonelli's only competition for Arlington's Crankiest Geezer is Bob Atkins.

Anonymous said...

Antonelli went after the developers and CB for the form based charade on the Pike and the Zimmerman trolley folly.

Anonymous said...

We need someone on the County Board who is not part of the bipartisan cabal.

Jeff said...

John Reeder is on the ballot. Arlington Green Party generally doesn't go along with the bipartisan program.

Anonymous said...

What can you say about the editor of a local weekly newspaper who is doing his best to keep the name of the third party candidate in a 2-candidate race for County Board out of his newspaper?

ACDC Regular said...

Sad about Jim Mayer. A really bright guy who did not age well. Last few years of his life he could only engage in a civil and rational conversation with Yellow Dog Democrats.

According to the Republicans who have seen the drafts of John Antonelli's next Jane Barcroft fantasy novel, Antonelli has 'Jim Schulz' shooting up and blowing up the Signature Theater.

Back in the real world, 'Jim Schulz' is making a ton of money working outside Virginia helping start-up IPOs bring advanced lithium-ion battery technology to the marketplace and could care less about local vaudeville theater.

L O L said...

Arlington Vaudeville Theater. That's exactly right. Vaudeville Theater.

Why do Arlington's Vaudeville theater groups hate 'Jim Schulz' so much?

Because he asked them the following questions:

When are you going to nuture a Eugene O'Neill for the 21st Century?

When are you going to nurture a Richard Rogers and Oscar Hammerstein for the 21st Century?

When are you going to nurture a Harold Arlen, Lorenz Hart, Johnny Mercer, for the 21st Century?

Serious response from Arlington Vaudeville theater groups: Don't worry be happy, we'll get to that sometime soon. Right now we're seriously involved in a serious revival of "Sweeney Todd."

That is a most profound analysis of all that is wrong with American Theater in this century, and much of the last.

K. said...

Antonelli is a mess. His career at the FBI amounts to periods of work followed by periods of employee counseling sessions.

Betsy said...

Really folks, do you want an editor of a corrupt and bankrupt local weekly newspaper chain telling us how to live our lives? Not Me!

Dennis said...

I saw "Jim Schulz" in the clubhouse at Saratoga racetrack last week on opening day with a gorgeous 50-something blonde who looked like she was a former Miss America finalist. He obviously wasn't thinking about the Signature Theater.

Tom - 22205 said...

McCaffrey only cares about the chamber of commerce and local real estate. We need and deserve a better newspaper.

Anonymous said...

Signature isn't even good vaudeville.

L O L said...

She WAS a former Miss America finalist.

Anonymous said...

McCaffrey should be the PR Director of the Signature. We need a real local newspaper, not more McCaffrey PR for his pet people and interests.

Don said...

Fisette owes McCaffrey a big favor for McCaffrey keeping John Reeder's name and photo out of the Sun-Fisette.

"You will love it," said Perry Reardon, catching up with us in the third-floor lobby, which hugs the front of the boardroom but extends in a staggered array of squashy chairs and tables around a railed well that opens straight down to the ground floor. "Schulz has got a babe."
"Naaah," said Pastorelli. "Unless she was inflatable."
"Personally, I don’t care about Jim Schulz’s sex life," said Allie, who had had to remove him from the boardroom more than once.
"No, she was seriously hot," said Reardon.
"You think Bravo is hot," said Pastorelli.
"She was driving him," said Reardon. "He usually drives that heap van?"
"Must be the booty shorts," said Allie drily.

When Eric Schaeffer went to the County Board looking for approval of the so-called "Signature Steal", after delaying the library for more than 3 years, "Jim Shulz" read the passage from Huckleberry Finn about the Royal Nonsuch and called Eric the "Duke of Douglas Park". Eric was not amused.

Arlington Theater is a Waste said...

The Signature should get honest for once and revive "Oh Calcutta" with an all male cast.

So I heard said...

Q: What did "Jim Schulz" say to the federal bankruptcy judge during the Sun Gazette parent company's Chapter 11 hearing?

A: Ask American Community Newspapers CEO, Gene Carr.

No More Blah Theater said...

You know, Jim Shulz is right. American Theater is in the same sad state in 2009 as American Theater was in 1909.

Anonymous said...

Who is this Jim Shultz?

Duh said...

Q: What did "Jim Shultz" say to the Neighborhood Traffic Calming Committee last month?

A: Why did you install hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of traffic calming in this neighborhood when the speed limit signs are 30 years old and are often hidden by tree branches?

L O L said...

"Because you're the children and we're your Nannies, that's why".

Anonymous said...

"Jim Shulz" is an acronym for Arlingtonians who want a thriving middle class and quality services for all citizens, not a middle class that's harrassed, intimidated, over taxed, ignored, and otherwise abused by County Government dedicated to the total gentrification of Arlington

So I heard... said...

Latest from bamkruptcy court - Sun Gazette's parent company is feuding with its creditors because the reorganized LLC parent company wants to walk away from office leases.

Occasional Reader said...

Is this an in joke? Is it Shultz like the former Sec of State (his name is on the State dept campus in Arlington -- but I don't see the connection). Or Schulz or what? And if he or they are at the pricey horse races, what is the connection with Arlington taxpayers who feel short on information about what the county is doing?

Yupette, did you ever connect with the media people?

Dennis said...

Arlington's Yupublicrat 'community leaders' hate the middle class and can't gentrify the middle class out of Arlington fast enough.

L O L said...

General Admission to the Saratoga Racetrack is $3. Club House admission is $5. There is free parking available if you are willing to walk 1/4 mile.

Admission to a revival of "Sweeney Todd" at the Signature would typically cost about $90.

Lots more happening along the Hudson River than Saratoga. Next month marks the 400th Anniversary of Hendrik Hudson's voyage up the River. Many special events in towns along the River.

L O L said...

Occasional Reader, have you seen who are on the Board of AIM?

Occasional Reader said...

L.O.L., just tell me in so many words what you think would be so wrong with the owner of this blog saying her piece to the local cable people. If it is free to raise a little hell, what's the problem?

I took a look at this Maurice Martin's site and the worst I can say about him is that he is in love with the Watchmen movie, which I thought was pretty crappy, but had nothing to do with local issues.

Barcrofter said...

Look who's on AIM's Board. Look at the content of AIM's videos. LOL.

Barbara said...

Ask McCaffrey to appear on-camera. Ask him why he and his newspaper, which has been referred to for years as the 'Sun-Fisette', are shills for the Yupublicrats and their anti-middle class gentrification.

Anonymous said...

Have AIM follow BarFavola around for a week with a videocam.

Occasional Reader said...

OK, everybody just forget it, I guess.

First time I ran across this blog I made a note to come back occasionally. I read a useful post about when and where people could speak up about an issue, as with the more recent post about the HOT lanes. I couldn't make that date but thought I'd check back and keep up.

Now a news agency has taken an interest in the blog owner and if she doesn't want to take that and run with it, I'd like to know what exactly is the problem with that. Where do I even find out who is on the cable station board? Why is that relevant? Instead there is this coy stuff about some guy whose name I have never seen in the paper and his personal life. It says here that Yupette moderates all the comments, so what about some plain answers?

If I knew every little back story and in-group connection in this county I wouldn't be asking questions, or is this blog only for people who already all know each other?

L O L said...

Simple answer: I think the way Yuppette and others see it, AIM contributes to the County's pro-gentrification, anti-middle class Yupublicratic agenda.

Scott McCaffrey is gloating because Arlington County is extracting every possible dime from down-on-their-luck residents who are hard pressed to pay their taxes - to be used for the County Board's pet projects. Meanwhile the Sun Gazette's parent company is in the throes of Chapter 7 largely due to corporate extravagance. Did someone say we need a new newspaper in Arlington? Second the motion.

Anonymous said...

Sun Gazette's parent company, American Community Newspapers just fired one of its group publishers in Minnesota. ACN's creditors now own the company and are out to get their money back any way they can, meaning featuring lifestyles of rich and famous local celebrities mingled with ads for expensive real estate. BTW, ACN is very much still in federal bankruptcy court.

The $un Gazette will endorse Bob McDonnell and Jay Fisette. All $cotty cares about anymore is $$$.

L O L said...

Right on about $cotty and the $un Gazette. Read the $G infomercial about Turnberry Tower.

The County Treasurer's office just finished making life miserable for a couple thousand financially distressed Arlingtonans who owed back taxes so the County Board could fund the cultural center for the Rosslyn richey riches.
