Who is behind this? Governor Tim 'Hot Lanes' Kaine, of course.

Let's make a major effort for traffic mitigation on August 3rd. And tell "Hot Lanes" Kaine that Arlington doesn't need HOT Lanes if VDOT makes a major move toward traffic mitigation. Starting with - NO HOT LANES INSIDE THE BELTWAY.

Yupette, the communities in Arlington and Alexandria around I-395 do not want HOT Lanes inside the Beltway. Tim Kaine should immediately initiate a 1-day-a-week telecommuting policy for all state employees who work in office buildings. The feds should do the same and build secure work areas inside federal installations like Quantico and Ft. AP Hill so federal employees with security clearances don't have to commute on I95-395 to the Pentagon and Crystal City.

Why do I have to go to a blog to read what's important in Northern Virginia for a better future vs. "more of the same" in the local newspapers?

A better idea: Let's all get the hell out of Arlington and go live
happily ever after in that remote location.

Why can't there be a comprehensive telework program for the region? Maybe because the consortium that will build and operate HOT lanes would lose money.

Want to know what a mess things are? Consider that Congress is getting ready to rubber stamp $128 billion more for Iraq and Afghanistan and rubber stamped $800 billion for financial system bail outs.

So what's happening to the Medicare-type national health insurance system with supplemental insurance available from the insurance companies we thought we were going to get?

"We can't afford it."

I telephoned Moran's, Warner's, and Webb's offices. Said the following:

We want a Medicare-type national healthcare system with universal coverage.

You've spent the last 6 months taking care of everyone else's needs, when are you going to start caring for the citizens who elected you?

So we will have a "health insurance" system where any organization with fewer than 10-25 employees (less than $500,000 payroll) is allowed to opt out? Isn't that one of the major problems with the current system?

There is NO reason why Virginia can't hve a comprehensive telework system. What we are headed for instead is more lanes on more interstates. And the interstates will be toll roads.

Concerned about national healthcare legislation?

Congressman Moran: 202-225-4376

Senator Warner: 202-224-2023

Senator Webb: 202-224-4024

Yupette the Blue Dog Democrats vs. Democratic Leadership over healthcare is a total f'ing charade. We are not going to get anything resembling universal healthcare unless and until the middle class raises hell with Congress, which just sold out to the insurance companies and HMOs.

Charade? The Wall Street Journal reported today that the bailed out financial services corporations are giving $33 billion in bonuses from federal bail out funds.

F'ing morons in Congress just approved another $2 billion to put more Kias, Hyundis, and other cheap-ass foreign cars on American streets and highways. When it comes to AMTRAK they spend 6 months deciding on an emergency supplemental to keep the system running. If it weren't for Joe Biden AMTRAK would have been history 8 years ago.

Moran supposedly had a sit-down last week with DOD Secretary Gates regarding the 19,000 additional BRAC relocation employees who will be added to the DOD workforce in the 8th District.

Yupette, the population of Virginia is about 8 million and we are living in an infrastructure designed for 6 1/2 to 7 million.

Why can't this state take 50,000 vehicles every Monday thru Friday off I-66 and Rt 29 by constructing commuter passenger rail service out to Orange and implementing work-from-home telecommuting one day a week?

I guess it's because our elected leaders love auto dealers and VDOT.

Why do I have to go to this blog to learn there is a state-wide Telework Day?

Happy Virginia Telework Day.

Yupette, traffic was light for a weekday. Of course lots of people are on vacation and the House of Representatives is not in session.

Virginia's population is 8 million and is growing by 100,000 per year. Virginia has public roads that can effectively serve 6 1/2 to 7 million residents.

Time to abandon the fantasy that building more interstates and more lanes on interstates can solve Virginia's transportation problems.

Yupette, the County's PR office told County employees all about Telework Day but did not bother to inform County residents.
