Next Arlington County Board Budget / Planning Charade Occurs on February 21st
Check out the agenda for Saturday's County Board meeting at arlingtonva.us. The County Board will not take up Newseum Cultural Center funding, that's already been pre-approved and it's why citizens are being socked with hefty real estate and fee increases ( Agenda Item 22), to pay for the Rosslyn Billionaires' Culture Club. While you're at it, check out Item 23, a Christmas in February give-away to another wealthy out-of-state developer who will build another huge yupscale energy-inefficient mixed-use redevelopment in Pentagon City with affordable housing to be constructed 60 miles away.

Oh, Yes. Let's give $10 million to the Richie Riches for their Billionaire's Rosslyn Arts Center. When have Jay Fisette and Barbara Favola ever cared about anything besides more welfare for the wealthy?
Don't forget $500,000 for an Arlington County PR office, so that the local newspapers can continue to print taxpayer-paid free press releases as "news."
WE are getting socked with tax and fee increases to pay for welfare-for-the-wealthy? What else is new in Arlington? The rich people in Rosslyn and North Arlington who want a cultural center are very good at fund raising, when it comes to raising funds to keep the homeless homeless.
Arlington County is building an entertainment and recreation bubble and an office building / hotel bubble. How much more recreation and entertainment can the County afford to operate and subsidize? The small companies I'm familiar with are cutting back on travel and office space rental and buying 50 inch HD TVs for teleconferencing. What happens when the Internet superhighway gets going? Does anyone think that Members of Congress will NOT want to move federal offices out of the DC Metro area and into economically distressed areas like Detroit? As Senator Byrd has done in West Virginia.
New Arlington budget item: A copyright fee for Arlington County press releases that for-profit local news organizations retype and print as "news."
Same old same old...the movers and shakers are screwing the taxpayers and moving on in ten years...as their parents did in when they ran the Frost Belt cities 40 years ago.
What did Saturday's County Board meeting indicate? It's Black History Month and African Americans are going to be history in Arlington within 10 years. This County is all about a racist white elite who are hell bent on re-segregation, including no whites who earn less than $150,000 per year.
Most idiotic item on the agenda was the taxpayers supporting a $7 million Arlington commuter bureaucracy that sells $10 million worth of fare cards and t-shirts every year. That's a 7 dollar taxpayer subsidy required for every 10 dollars worth of transportation related "stuff" that's sold. Another dumb idea from Urban Village Idiot Chris Zimmerman.
What do you expect from Zimmerman? He doesn't listen to citizens. He only listens to his pet people who agree with his extravagant spending for his pet projects.
The County Board are a bunch of total turkeys who never met a McMansion, luxury condo development, or massive retail development they didn't like, no matter how energy in-efficient and how much traffic the building(s) would generate.
Yupette, after Zimmerman's pets on the County Staff argued for the $7 million taxpayer subsidy required to sell $10 million of Metro passes in the commuter stores they told the citizens who complained that the money would be better spent on ART Buses: "ART Buses are not for you, they are to get the indigents who don't own autos around Arlington."
County transportation staff told me: "Next priority for the ART Bus system is getting indigents who live in Shirlington to their case workers at DHS."
So the 10,000 people who live in and around Fairlington who want ART Bus service are going to have to wait.
Hey, Yupette, how about a thread about how "environmentally challenged" Boss Hogg Zimmerman and the other Arlington Yupublicrats are becoming?
County Staff also told me that the next priority for the ART bus system is to get indigent people from Shirlington to DHS via ART.
