HOT Lanes in Delaware - Environmental Devastation in Action

Hello Yupette,

I grew up in Lewes Delaware when it was a sleepy fishing village. I live in Fairlington (Arlington) and work for an healthcare association.

Has anyone seen what the Route 1 HOT lanes have done to Delaware? They have devastated the agricultural environment with mega-development and brought traffic from south of Dover onto I-95 in Wilmington and clogged the streets and roads of northern Delaware with traffic.

The same thing is going to happen here when and if VDOT builds HOT lanes down 95 to southern Spotsylvania County.

Our elected officials and civic associations are nothing but a bunch of 'facilitators' for developers. Where is the so-called Green Party? I guess they are in hibernation until a couple weeks before the November elections.

We have way too much traffic already and when and if HOT lanes are constructed we are going to have a lot more. Please get the word out to the people who live in the neighborhoods along 395. Thanks.

Where is the Green Party? Maybe having an indoor pool party at Congressman Moran's Palace on the Palisades. Or maybe they are having tea at the Saudi Ambassador's residence, just up the road from Moran.

Lewes Grrl I agree. Almost everyone who is elected or appointed to represent us and our interests is a "facilitator" for the status-quo. Anyone know how many more vehicles the HOT lanes will bring into Arlington during weekday rush hours?

At least 50,000. The HOT lanes will be de facto owned by a couple of corporations and run like HMOs run hospitals. The more vehicles, the more profit.

All part of the Yupublicrats' plans to make inside-the-the-beltway an exclusive upscale party zone. Don't earn $150,000 a year? Too bad. Drive your stinking Nissan Sentra to Caroline County and buy an affordable home there.

Yupette, take Rt 301 up the Eastern Shore of MD to Middletown DE and turn right on Rt 299 East and drive thru Middletown and to the Rt 1 toll road. An environmental disaster and an environmental disgrace.

Oh, forgot to say there is a rail line that parallels the Rt 1 toll road and is only used for freight.

Lewes Grrl, the Racists and Elitists who control Arlington, Alexandria, Falls Church, etc. want the working poor, minorities. and middle class out ASAP. Faster they are out faster Inside-the-Beltway becomes an Exclusive Yup Hedo Zone.

Seen where Joe Biden lived in Wilmington before he became V.P.? Makes McLean look like a dump.

Yo, do you think that billionaire Rush Limbaugh, billionaire Mike Bloomberg, and billionaire Rupert Murdock give a s*** about the environment, poor people, or anything but themselves?

Anonymous said...

At least they are honest about it, unlike Joe Biden.

The construction, construction equipment, development, residential and commercial real estate, mortgage, etc., sectors are so huge that the environmental devastation will never end. The people who are in charge don't really care.

Arlington County Board voted against HOT lanes in a resolution last night.

Chamber of Commerce boosters, including the local media are all for it. More ad revenue. Arlington County knows it will be overwhelmed with traffic if HOT lanes are constructed, not that Arlington County isn't looking for ways to gentrify out the middle class.

County Board had to say something because they know how much more traffic will drive into and through Arlington via HOT lanes.

Doesn't matter, Kaine says "Jump!" and the local Dems say "How high?"

Anonymous said...

See the local Democratic state legislators raising questions? I don't.

The local print media shills (Nick Benton and Scott McCaffrey) for the Chamber of Commerce are all for it. More motor vehicles mean more ad revenue from auto dealers. When was the last time ANYONE in the local media editorialized for better quality of life inside the Beltway?

McCaffrey's neighborhood in South Arlington is full of burnt out street lights and the streets are full of cracks and paved-over potholes. But Scott knows that if the County starts installing new street lights and paving streets there won't be any money to give away to his wealthy live theater buds.

HOT lanes will be a traffic disaster. My idiotic civic association (Fairlington Citizens Association) is up to their usual facilitation of any and all development and redevelopment.

The civic associations in South Arlington can't get the streets paved but they can go along with HOT lanes which will bring 50,000 more vehicles per day onto Arlington streets.
