Yupublicrat Elites Seek Another Welfare-for-the-Wealthy Steal at 11/15 CB Meeting
Check out item 33 on the County Board's agenda at the November 15th CB Meeting - a $14 million publicly-funded Arts Center in the former Newseum. It's the wealthy YupArts Crowd's latest rip-off attempt on taxpayers. Too bad Scott McCaffrey and his Middleburg Yupublican buds are too busy riding the polo ponies in Yupperville to do fund-raising for Arlington's wealthy Art Elite. Some kind of "take government out of our lives" Republicans! Really. While you're at it, check out Item 32, the County's projected income / expenditures report and Item 2, another attempt by Nanny Nancy Hunt to censor restaurant music in the Villages at Shirlington.

You can be sure that "Giveaway Jay" Fisette will support any and every giveaway steal from the taxpayers to his wealthy YupArts Crowd campaign contributors.
Where have the local media been over the past 5-10 years except bitching about one pet peeve or another, week after week, month after month, year after year?
When I was a kid in SW VA the local AM radio stations were always out raising money for good causes.
The local media here only care about nothing but their quarterly profits.
Having been told to sit down and shut up a year ago Nanny Nancy Hunt is back at it trying again to censor music at restaurants in Shirlington.
This is the fat-assed Republican club woman and social controller / police snitch that Zimmerman appointed to chair the planning commission.
Why don't all of these jerks retire to Montana and live there with their good buddy, Log Cabin Carrie, Queen of Bad Planning.
Leave us alone.
The Fairlington Citizens Association is creepy, spends its time micro-managing the music of Shirlington restaurants while Fairlington is looking like a neglected suburb in the Rust Belt.
The wealthy Republicans who want $14 million for an arts center should take personal responsibility and pay for it themselves.
Yupette for County Board !!!
Arlington arts crowd is a bunch of country club Republicans and wannabes always looking for a handout. They want the same steal the $$$ignature Theater got.
Arlington Republicans are good at two things, starting malicious rumors and obtaining tax dollars for their corporations and elitist organizations.
How about this Ed Hilz character who goes around bothering the restaurants in Shirlington about the music they play? Hs's the treasurer of the Fairlington civic association and whn I asked him how much was in the association's treasury he told me the information is "confidential."
Anyone know how much they have and spend every year?
The fairlington citizens assoc. is all about developers and development. Outsiders are not welcome at the board meeting (after the featured guest does his/her thing). If you ask questions you are told you are not welcome and/or threatened with the police. I have heard the FCA has over $100,000 and spends about $2,000/yr on the community. Not including the newsletter which is 1/2 advertising. The FCA is run like a private club.
Why are the NGOs allowed to micro-manage our lives to the extent they are?
Can we have some information about the group or groups that want a taxpayer handout for the newseum arts center?
The County would enter into a lease agreement with:
1101 Wilson Owner LLC
c/o Monday Properties LLC
230 Park Avenue
New York NY 10169
Why is the Democratic County Board having anything to do with Monday Properties which has just been sued for major league racial discrimination?
The organization that wants the Newseum as an arts center is Rosslyn Renaissance (rosslynva.org), a consortium of upscale people and wealthy corporations (e.g., Boeing) that want to put their favorite arts group or activity into the Newseum at taxpayer's expense. Several were involved in the $ignature Theater $teal a few years ago.
Typical Republicans, always looking for a government handout for their corporation or favorite upscale non-profit.
Everyone should google Monday Properties and read about the rotten racist behavior in that company from the Nov 10th NY Observer report.
the blog posts on that article are even creepier than the allegations, there are clearly people who think that just that a non-white gets elected to office that means there are no more racists in this country.

for those who have not seen it
Correction...the Fairlington Citizens Association is run like a plantation.
We must not lease a building for public use from a company where racism is pervasive. It is bad enough that a month ago an African American woman told the County Board she longer feels welcome in Arlington after living here for 47 years.
Chris Zimmerman, Barbara Favola, Jay Fisette, Ron Carlee, Nancy Hunt, and others with important governance responsibilities in County and regional government are poor analysts and decision makers. We are about to suffer the consequences of their poor decisions. May we have a thread about better-managed counties elsewhere?
Yes. And can we have another thread about local newspapers elsewhere that are not boosters for the local chamber of commerce and local realtors?
Can we have a thread about really energy efficient buildings elsewhere incorporating renewable energy rather than carping about the LEED score charade Nancy Hunt is perpetrating on behalf of her developer friends?
Hi, Yupette,
Monday Properties owns and manages several Rosslyn office buildings and its building management is hostile to minorities. I work in a Monday Properties building.
Cindy
I've looked through the Rosslyn Renaissance Web Site.
Boeing's profits will be about $4 billion this year. Members of the arts community who support the County's lease of the Newseum are almost all upscale. Rosslyn residents are not only upscale but wealthy. And how about the Gannett Foundation? Why is the upscale arts community going after Arlington taxpayers?
I hope middle class people who are economically stressed attend tomorrow's County Board meeting. Because the Arts Elite will be there looking for a government handout at the expense of the middle class.
Arlington County already gives the Rosslyn Business Improvement District over $2 million a year.
A large group of upscale white Arts Elite lobbied the County Board at the Nov. 15th County Board meeting. Looks as though the CB will give them a $14 m handout.
County Manager predicts a $40 million budget shortfall next year.
The corporate members of Rosslyn Renaissance are hugely wealthy. They include Vornado, Tishman-Speyer, Boeing, and dozens of other very wealthy very profitable corporations. Why are ordinary citizens and middle class communities going without necessary services so these greedy pigs can get corporate welfare from Arlington taxpayers?
A.Y. what is wrong with Vornado? They make great products to include a fan my mom gave me that I love very efficient and it saves energy?
What the steal, Zimmy? And what's the payoff for the sucker taxpayers?
Same wealthy arts pigs who got a big welfare check for the $ignature Theater. The $ignature is taking this year's $122,000 County welfare check and using it to throw a big black tie gala for billionaire $tephen $ondheim next spring.
Vornado Air LLC and Vornado Realty Investment Trust are two different companies. Vornado Realty Investment Trust owns/manages 100 million sq fit of real estate across the United States and has a projected 2008 profit of $750 million.
Zimmer-ham and his ward heelers are set to raise taxes, cut services, and delay, deny, and defer infrastructure upgrades so Zimmy can fast track his vanity projects.
It is obvious from tonight's CB meeting that Ed Hilz is the Fairlington Village Idiot. Where was Nanny Nancy Hunt? Re-regulating a bank she de-regulated for Tom DeLay five years ago?
The Shirlington restaurant music and seating 'controversy' was another attempt by the Fairlington Citizens Association to shake down local merchants to buy expensive ad space in the FCA's monthly newsletter. Then there are the illegal "gratuities" arising from Shirlington re-development. What's the 'pay off' for Fairlington except more traffic and air pollution?
