Fireworks Display Starts at 6:30 Tonight - County Board Room

Hey Yupette,

There's going to be a free fireworks display in the County Board Room tonight during the recessed County Board meeting.  This afternoon's County Board meeting will be a warmup for the main fireworks display starting at 6:30.

Agenda items to watch tonight are Consent Agenda item 27 (Fiscal Year 2015 Grant Agreements between the County Board and the State's Department of Rail and Public Transportation), Consent Agenda Item 29, (AHIF funding of the William Watters Apartments renovation), and Regular Hearing Item 50 (Expenditure of $58 million for additional leased office space for DHS in the Sequoia Building from FY 15 through FY 23 and extension of the lease on the space DHS already occupies in the Sequoia Building until 2030.

As always, you can watch the fireworks at home via public access television or via the arlingtonva.us Web site.

Libby Garvey was absent. So not the fireworks display it could have been.

How can the County Board vote on anything when there are only two County Board members present?

Crystal City phased development site plan is a huge charade. All Vornado has to say to the County Board to get anything it wants is: "We have a deal in the works, and this package of 'community benefits' will kill the deal."

Fisette, Hynes, and Tejada gave Vornado still more corporate welfare last night.

The Sequoia lease will cost taxpayers at least $75 million over 7 years for DHS leased space in the Sequoia complex . The County could buy the entire building complex now for about $160 million and have a building in the complex it can use for a school.

But what the County will do is move DHS offices to Sequoia demolish the old buildings it owns and uses for DHS and spend $75 million building a new school.

Where is the discussion about the cost of streetcar / bicycle accidents?

Arlington Ridge residents are fed up about mega-infill being imposed on us by Vornado.

All this being coordinated by a County Manager who is 3 years from retirement and who lives 30 miles from Arlington.

Too bad Libby wasn't able to attend.

Did anyone else hear the Rosslyn CivFed President and Arlington Ridge CivFed President attack the County Board for being in the pockets of the REITs?

After voting for the Pub Crawl Commune Vornado will build on S. 23rd Street, J.V. came to his senses and voted against the bait-and-switch Crystal City PDSP perpetrated against Arlington Ridge residents by Vornado.

South 23rd Street Pub Crawls...stay tuned for the next three years....

What a bunch of no-class Democrats Fisette, Hynes, and Tejada are. Perpetrating this urbanization on neighborhoods like Arlington Ridge to benefit skank corporations like Vornado whose idea of 'community benefits' is plazas surrounded by restaurants and retail.

Vornado's Pub Crawl Commune on 23rd Street? How about ten calls to the Arlington Police from the residents every Friday and Saturday night?

Doesn't it bother you that civic association presidents from Rosslyn, Crystal City, and Arlington Ridge expressed their outrage at the County Board's massive corporate welfare agenda? It bothers me.

So 'Whitlow's Mary' Hynes is going to chair a working group to decide whether to build another school in the TJ neighborhood? This woman has no concern whatsoever about the quality of life of her neighbors in Clarendon.

County Board should have made a site plan condition for Vornado to give reduced rent for several apartments at the Pub Crawl Commune, so police officers can live on-site.

Sequoia lease will cost the County at least $75 million over 7 years. Entire Sequoia complex is worth about $150 million.

Arlington Public Schools already has classrooms in the complex.

It gets worse. County could have bought the entire Sequoia complex for $150 million and moved the remaining tenants out over the next 7 years freeing up the space for classrooms as needed.

Inside-the-box thinking is what we deserve for hiring non-residents from Fairfax County to manage and plan Arlington's future.

So how much space is there in the entire Sequoia complex that APS could use for classrooms if the County owned the entire complex?

Way too many people in decision making positions in County Government who are not Arlington residents.

Correction. Way too many Fairfax County residents in decision making positions in County Government.
