County Board's Long Range Agenda: Massive Urban In-Fill Countywide

Hey Yupette,

Seen the County Board's Consent and Regular Meeting agendas for the September 21st and 24th meetings? They're up on the arlingtonva.us site.

If you take a close look you'll notice that the meeting agenda reflects the County Board's long-term goal of in-fill urbanization across the County. To benefit developers, REITs and non-resident County bureaucrats who are the County's de facto primary decision makers.

What's worse, non-resident County employees who are responsible for economic development and planning are in-filling residential neighborhoods with multi-jurisdictional public infrastructure, paid for by County residents. How many non-residents do you think will drive to use the Longbridge recreation megaplex? Lots.

Speaking of driving, check out all the additional parking spaces that will be created in the mega-infill Pen Place corporate welfare package for Vornado. In a county where the Board of Supervisors spent $3 million promoting a car free diet last year while approving the construction of 3,000 new parking spaces via site plans.

Residents of Aurora Hills, Fairlington, and Williamsburg have the right to be outraged. Their neighborhoods are the latest 'redevelopment opportunities' offered to the REITS by a County Government that's completely corrupt.

Thanks for posting this blog.

Non-resident County Government 'planning' bureaucrats inflict their ugly in-fill on residential neighborhood after residential neighborhood. To benefit whom? Certainly not Arlington residents, homeowners, and taxpayers.

Non-Resident Arlington County 'Planning' and 'Economic Development' Bureaucrats move from residential neighborhood to residential neighborhood like vultures, thanks to Arlington's corrupt Republicrat pols and the corrupt media elite that supports them.

County "Planning Staff"? Bunch of corrupt vultures? No fooling!

Corrupt Media Elite? You wouldn't be referring to outgoing Wash Post CEO Don Graham and incoming Wash Post CEO Jeff Bezos, would you?

No contest, Bezos urbanizing rural America with Amazon's fufillment centers (aka warehouses) is way beyond Graham urbanizing the Alexandria waterfront.

Non-resident vultures? Please include the REITs and their law firms.

Anyone else notice the Post transitioning from Limo Liberal to Libertarian?

Corrupt Media Elite? Like $ara$ota $cott McCaffrey, Arlington's First Nanny (sorry Jason) and major media promoter of "development for the sake of development"?

All the Media Elite care about is revenue. Love those full page ads for in-fill residential and commercial.

There's a big fight brewing about a Sunday farmers' market in Fairlington, which would draw over a thousand people and hundreds of vehicles into a residential neighborhood Sunday mornings via lightly-used I-395. The non-residents who control the County bureaucracy are all for it.

Take a look at the Consent Agenda. Why have site plans at all if the site plans are constantly changed after approval by the County Board?

In-fill of Lacey Woods Park is up for approval.

If you look at the names on the staff reports for various in-fill urbanization projects you will see that the same 3-4 flocks of non-resident vultures go from neighborhood to neighborhood.

McCaffrey should ask Ron Carlee for an introduction to Charlotte's Media Elite. $cott could gang with the Big $$$ movers and shakers on the Charlotte Chamber's Board. A win-win for him and us.

Landscape architect who redesigned Lacey Woods Park is a County employee who also owns a landscape architectural company with offices in Fairfax and Florida.

Anyone ever seen anyone in Douglas Park across the street from Chris Zimmerman's home?

Seen any skateboarders, bicycle racers, ninja bikers, etc., in Jay Fisette's House and Garden neighborhood?

Bluemont Civic Association is calling what amounts to the urbanization of Lacy Woods Park a big waste of money.

So, what big events do County Government's non-resident bureaucrats have lined up for Lacey Woods Park next year?

Win-Win-Win-Win for Fairfax County, Alexandria, and DC residents on County Staff. They don't have to pay increased taxes to build expensive public infrastructure in their own backyards, they get paid a lot of money to design, build, and manage urban infrastructure in our backyards, they get to keep their own suburban neighborhoods suburban, and they get use of Arlington's urbanized infrastructure at a discount.

We really, really, need an Inspector General in this County.

So many non-resident County employees have businesses where they spend time when they should be at work at 2100 or another County office building.

Thanks for stating what I've felt for a long time. Arlington County Government is completely corrupt.

You forgot the county bureaucrats who spend hours posting comments on ArlNow.

Jay and Rob tied the knot. Next year we get to see a statement of financial interest from Jay that includes the revolving door pay-to-play activity between Rob's consulting firm and Jay's office at the County Board.

Fairlington residents' Q and A meeting regarding in-fill will be on September 30th at 7 PM at the South Stafford Street Multi-Jurisdiction Sports, Recreation, and Activity Center, formerly the Fairlington Community Center.

Another vote for Audrey Clement -- mine.

Speaking of Fairlington, what did Fairlington residents do to incur nearby mega-infill and overcrowding at the Fairlington Community Center? Allowed the County to be run and ruined by non-residents? Sheesh...no one in Fairlington even knows that the County's decision makers, starting with County Manager Donnellan, all live outside Arlington.

It's a HUGE CHARADE people. The NIMBYs aren't Arlington County residents. The NIMBYs are Fairfax County and Alexandria residents on County Staff who are protecting their own suburban quality of life by urbanizing Arlington's neighborhoods.

Long-time Fairlington resident and County Board Member Libby Garvey has decided not to attend the September 30th Fairlington Residents' Q and A meeting. Too many embarrassing questions may be asked.

Does it bother you that Libby Garvey only interacts with residents of her own community on Election Day?
