Yuppies de Quebec Discussing Smart Growth Gentrification Facilitation in Washington D.C.

Hi Yupette,

FYI, Chris Zimmerman and the region's Yuppie Smart Growth Elitists invited Quebec's Yuppie Elite to D.C. last Summer to see how Smart Growth Gentrification works inside the Beltway. Here's a link to the press release issued by the Communaute' Metropolitaine de Montreal on June 14th: http://www.mrifce.gouv.qc.ca/en/salle-de-presse/actualites/10755

Washington DC discusses urban development with Montreal

"Some thirty representatives from the Communaute' metropolitaine de Montreal (CMM) were in Washington DC from June 5 to 7. The theme of the mission was urban development with an emphasis on public transit infrastructure (Transit-Oriented Development, or TOD). The group composed of mayors, municipal councillors and Government of Quebec and municipal representatives was headed by Longueuil Mayor Caroline St-Hillaire.

The purpose of the visit by the CCM representatives was to hold discussions with some of the people behind the introduction of the first generation TOD in the Washington metropolitan area in order to benefit from their experience and learn lessons that could be applied to metropolitan Montreal where the proximity of public transit stations (subways, commuter trains) facilitates sustainable urban development. For example, the CMM representatives witnessed first hand the success of the Arlington (Virginia) suburb, which is known for its smart residential and commercial growth development near the Metrorail stations, and which has earned Arlington County a number of awards."

Time to return the favor - send Zimmy, Jay, and their smart growth bicycle fanatic friends to Quebec after next week's C.B. meeting to promote all-weather bicycling as part of Montreal's TOD.

Yes, Zimmy should lead a delegation of Arlington bicycle fanatics to Montreal while the daytime temperature is about zero degrees fahrenheit to obtain information about facilitating bicycle commuting in extreme weather conditions.

Why give them ideas? Fi$ette would be happy lead a delegation of biketar...I mean bicycle fanatics... to Montreal in January to 'prove' bicycle commuting during a sub zero blizzard is a viable TDM option.

Let me guess the location of Arlington's next Sister City.

Let's see. Chris Zimmerman, in is official capacity as Arlington County Board member, meets with Canadian public officials to promote streetcar development, while he is employed by Aecom to promote Canadian business, or as part of a process to secure employment with AEcom to promote Canadian business. That's no potential conflict of interest. That is an actual and active conflict of interest. Zimmerman is toast.

What provision of law is violated? Take your pick.

§ 2.2-3103. Prohibited conduct.

No officer or employee of a state or local governmental or advisory agency shall:

1. Solicit or accept money or other thing of value for services performed within the scope of his official duties, except the compensation, expenses or other remuneration paid by the agency of which he is an officer or employee. This prohibition shall not apply to the acceptance of special benefits that may be authorized by law;

2. Offer or accept any money or other thing of value for or in consideration of obtaining employment, appointment, or promotion of any person with any governmental or advisory agency;

3. Offer or accept any money or other thing of value for or in consideration of the use of his public position to obtain a contract for any person or business with any governmental or advisory agency;

4. Use for his own economic benefit or that of another party confidential information that he has acquired by reason of his public position and which is not available to the public;

5. Accept any money, loan, gift, favor, service, or business or professional opportunity that reasonably tends to influence him in the performance of his official duties. This subdivision shall not apply to any political contribution actually used for political campaign or constituent service purposes and reported as required by Chapter 9.3 (§ 24.2-945 et seq.) of Title 24.2;

6. Accept any business or professional opportunity when he knows that there is a reasonable likelihood that the opportunity is being afforded him to influence him in the performance of his official duties;

Check out Zimmy's pitch for Smart Growth that he delivered to the CMM last October 17th. Zimmy was comped $600.

You gotta wonder where AECOM will send Zimmy next.

Question that must be asked - how many Arlington County employees has Zimmerman enlisted to facilitate whatever 'consulting activities' he's engaged in?

While we're at it, how many Arlington County employees troll ArlNow and other for-profit news blogs promoting Zimmerman's "vision" for Arlington and trashing anyone who opposes Zimmy's "vision"?

Zimmy needs to lawyer up.

As a matter of fact the Chair of the Arlington County Democratic Committee IS a criminal defense attorney.

What has to be determined, first and foremost, is how many County employees helped Zimmerman and what compensation they received, if any.

How many Arlington County employees (if any) helped employees of a foreign government (CMM) help Zimmerman?

President Sortant Zimmerman? I thought his official title was Reitsfuhrer Zimmerman?

Yes, I want to know how many County employees who typically earn $75,000 / year and up spend their 'work' days posting comments on ArlNow and other blogs.

Why did you think ArlNow was awarded an Abbie last year.

BTW, only those on $cott's short list of local VIPs are allowed to post comments.
