Pike Corridor Post-Redevelopment 'Open Space' : Your Front Lawn

Hi, Yupette,

Talk about a planning charade, tonight's open space planning meeting at the Career Center was a hoot. The County's open space planning consultants talked parks and playgrounds, but the reality is that there won't be much open space left after in-fill yuppification for anything but Pike Corridor residents to hie to existing parks and recreation centers (including the future aquatic center, indoor soccer arena, and boathouse) and use single family residential neighborhoods for their parks and recreation. Chris Zimmerman was there to ensure the consultants stayed on-track and there was a special guest appearance by Planning Commissioner Emeritus Carrie "Nana from Montana" Johnson.

I want to camp out in Douglas Park across the street from Chris Zimmerman's home. How can I reserve a camping space?

ROFL! Good one, Reid!

Hey, Yupette, can we see what Douglas Park looks like? Anyone have a photo?

BTW, Alexandria is similarly telling everyone who's in an infill redevelopment to use the nearest overcrowded public park and rec center.

Alex., FYI, there are more non-residents than Arlington residents using the Fairlington Community Center. Most from Alexandria. Recently-enlarged parking lots are now full in the evenings and non-residents drive around the neighborhood looking for a parking space.

Does anyone know where in Montana she retired to?

Meanwhile, the Arlington school system is taking delivery of classroom trailers for next school year.

She lives in Butte.

Why am I not surprised?

Anonymous said...

No -- she hasn't retired, just escapes to Butte when things get too hot and humid here. Still votes and pontificates here much of the time.

Nothing like escaping the mess you created. Average LEED scores of the buildings she approved was about 22. Plenty of parking underneath the buildings.

Butte? It figures, only place in Montana that two Interstates transect.

So-called 'open space' consultants were told flat out last night that the Shirlington mega in-fill, massive parking, with no additional green space or recreation areas are creating major problems for the communities near Shirlington.

But hey, Shirlington's out-of-state REIT and McLean lawyers laughed all the way to the bank. Together with non-resident County Planning Staff.

BTW, Nana Carrie has been one of Zimmerman's Senior Ward Heelers for two decades.

From Wikipedia: " The Upper Clark Fork River, with Butte at its headwaters, is America's largest Superfund site".

Want to know why Zimmerman and Nana Carrie aren't still approving Walsh-Colucci's clients' energy pig buildings? Because 4 years ago Paulie Ferguson got pissed his last year on the County Board and told Nan Walsh new buildings with LEED scores of 24 were no longer acceptable.

Wait until you see the new Wakefield Sports, Recreation, Community, and oh, yeah, Education Center in 2014. About 6 PM weekdays.

Jeeze, with silver at $40 an ounce someone with planning experience could make a bundle facilitating the reopening of the dormant mines around beautiful downtown Butte.

No S--- Sherlock. As long as Zimmy's front lawn looks out on his own private public park he's going to be very comfortable with whatever in-fill he inflicts on everyone else in the Pike Corridor.

Douglas Park? Civic Association is totally controlled by Zimmerman's friends. Has been for years. Boosters for CPRO, streetcars, massive infill, etc. Check out their newsletter.

Yes, Chris Zimmerman and his friends and Democratic ward heelers / facilitators are lying to their own neighbors about the effects of massive Pike redevelopment on the quality of life in Douglas Park, Barcroft, etc. Many of Zimmerman's facilitators are well over 50 and they're going to do what Zimmerman's nannies on the planning commission are doing - leaving for a nice retirement enclave far away after making a mess of Arlington.

There is major league lying going on by Zimmerman, County Staff, Dover, Kohl, County's PR staff, for-profit blogs, Pike 'community leaders', everyone.

FYI, Mary Hynes has already told ACDC that she's outta here after one more term on the County Board.

Speaking of Shirlington, want to know where Fairlington's community leaders who pushed Shirlington re-development go to shop, dine, etc.? Across Quaker Lane to Lindsay Village in Alexandria.

Joe Kohl was told by several south Arlington residents to visit Lindsay Village and to use local businesses as facilitators for conservation and preservation rather than always bringing in out-of-state REITs.

Zimmerman's an autocrat. His political machine is bi-partisan and the income of the people behind him depends on destroying every neighborhood on an Arlington arterial with in-fill redevelopment.

School system is moving in trailer classrooms to W-L High School, opened in 2008.

Time to face reality: Pike Corridor is going to be a godawful mess. Zimmerman is an autocrat and a megalomaniac. People supporting his agenda for the Pike are his friends, political cronies, or out to make a lot of money and don't live in Arlington.

Time for us to consider our future options as residents of what is now a low-density suburban corridor.

Chris Zimmerman is also increasingly irrational.
