County Board Makes Mega Deals While Existing Infrastructure Crumbles

Hey Yupette,

I let the newspapers I read accumulate for a couple weeks and thought I would toss them in the paper recycling bin located on the Pike at South Four Mile Drive. Surprise. There wasn't just the usual amount of construction debris, and household junk the Goodwill store across the street won't accept, there was so much junk dumped around the recycling bins that there was no way I could toss in my newspapers. The little parking lot was packed with home improvement contractors' trucks, so that's a likely source of the construction debris. Who in DES gave the contractors permission to park in this lot and dump debris on this site?

Meanwhile, County Board spends its time making mega deals for Pike redevelopment. Latest was Wellington Apartments, where the "affordable housing" will be for Millennials who work at the Pentagon.

Oh, BTW, this is Katie Cristol's and Christian Dorsey's neighborhood.

Thanks for your blog.

They are all in Philadelphia attending the Hillary Worship Service. Call them next week.

Know why crumbling brick sidewalks aren't being replaced? Because it's hugely expensive and they need the tax revenue for gondolas and $500,000 bus shelters.

Former Mayor of DuPont Circle, Deputy County Manager Carol Mitten, is responsible for both DES and Economic Development.

Former People's Republic of Arlington has become just like Russia, China, and Cuba. Run by and for greedy Capitalists.

No, it's the Queen Hillary Coronation Ceremony.

I wonder why Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin like each other?

Anonymous said...

Because Russia and the United States are Oligarchies?

How much are they spending on making over the Pike's streetscape in the area where the recycling drop off is located?

I asked a public works employees who remove the trash and recyclables from the site why there is no enforcement of the County's anti-dumping ordinance and he said that people would just dump between the sidewalk and curb if they couldn't dump at the recycling drip-off.

I am tired of this same old from the Democrats who have run everything in Arlington for 35 years. Always a reason or reasons nothing can change, except your neighborhood gets in-filled by expensive McMansions, apartments, and condos constructed by their corporate cronies with big taxpayer subsidies.

Developer of the Wellington Apartments site will receive 405 units of "bonus" density for 105 Millennial apartments that are unaffordable to people who work on the Pike for $10 per hour. Also off-limits to college students, graduate students, low-wage and unpaid interns, and others with low incomes.

County Government is controlled by Limo Liberal and Country Club Republican Racists and Elitists who want everyone who doesn't earn 100% of area median income (as defined by HUD) out of the County. So, 100% of area median income is $110,000 per year.

Hillary will be coronated by Elizabeth Warren holding the royal sceptre and Bernie Sanders holding the royal crown.

Time to start replacing 'affordable' with 'millennial'. As in 'Millennial Housing Investment Fund'.

Sure bet -- buy stocks on margin today 'cause the markets will zoom upward once Hillary is coronated.

Especially when Hillary's campaign leaks that Bill will be her Chief Economic Advisor.

Don't call it the neighborhood dump, call it a "vibrant urban village waste management area".

How do I volunteer for Audrey Clement's County Board campaign?

Looks like a lot of household junk dumped by people who were gentrified out.

I agree that county government is controlled by limo libs and country club repubs, otherwise there would be a repub running against lyin' libby.

Financial markets didn't react at all yesterday to Hilliary's coronation.

You would think an Ivy League Elitist like Katie Cristol would at least post a message stating "Eeewwww how gross in our soon-to-be Upscale Neighborhood"

Anonymous said...

Earth to Katie Cristol: "We had to destroy that village in order to save it" didn't work in 1966 and it doesn't work in 2016.

Pike as an Urban Village? Only in the Developers' and Realtors' imaginations.

Did someone mention gridlock? How many more pedestrians, bicycles, and motor vehicles of all types will they pack into the Pike Corridor? How much longer will they claim a pedestrian and bicycle trail under high voltage power lines is "open space"?

Bicyclists are another special interest they can't say "No" to, along with parents who drive their kids to school, even if they live two blocks from the school.

What ever happened to telework which is not promoted anywhere? Everybody doesn't have a security clearance that necessitates driving to the Pentagon, Pentagon City, Rosslyn, etc.

County Government sucks. Libby Garvey should be retiring, not running for another term. Same for Jay Fisette next year.

Again, the people who make the decisions a) don't live in Arlington or b) if they live in Arlington they live miles away from the urban in-fill messes they create.

I visited this recycling drop-off again today, July 31st. Usual contractor trash and household trash. Obviously, non-enforcement of the County's anti-dumping ordinance is a community amenity and a gimme to local renovation contractors.

Cops are too busy responding to calls about suspicious black males loitering at bus stops to enforce any ordinance, unless it's a parking ordinance involving a suspicious vehicle with DC plates parking a zoned neighborhood.

Anonymous said...

Yes, Arlington County is so crazy that the police do respond to reports of black males loitering at bus stops.

So 30,000 more residents will be packed into Arlington over the next 10 years. How sane is that?

Anonymous said...

Really? An overloaded recycling bin = crumbling infrastructure?

"So 30,000 more residents will be packed into Arlington over the next 10 years. How sane is that?"

Someone probably said the same thing before you moved in.

Take a look at the Pike streetscape just constructed 10 feet from the recycling bins, it's already deteriorating.

Anonymous said...

Someone should have asked ten years ago how many more people and vehicles will be packed into this tiny county.

BTW, urban village idiots should stick to posting comments on ArlNow.

Audrey has my vote. Libby Garvey has become a nasty Elitist who only listens to her corporate and non-profit yellow dog cronies.

Rather than arresting anyone for illegal dumping, which would be too embarrassing for County Government VIPs who allowed the recycling drop off to be a neighborhood dump for over a decade, DES is moving the recycling drop off.
