County Board's Agenda for Lee Highway Corridor: Total Clarendonization

Hello,

Last month A.Y. obtained copies of the County Board's, County Manager's, Economic Development Director's, and Planning Division Director's daily appointment calendars for the past several months. What today's Lee Highway Corridor Redevelopment "Community Meeting" at Yorktown High School proved is that Arlington's Smart Growth decision makers decided several months ago to make-over the Lee Highway corridor into a 5-mile long Clarendon.

If you didn't need more proof, you could hear and see the County Board's out-of-state Smart Growth "Planners" Dover-Kohl, replicating and reprising the New Urbanist mess they made of Columbia Pike, five years ago.

Oh, County "Planning Staff" is already talking with the likes of Clarendon Ballroom, A-Town, and other bars and restaurants that cater to Millennials for satellite operations beneath future mixed-used redevelopment in the Lee Highway corridor.

Small businees on Lee Highway? Too bad.

Same Florida-based Smart Growth 'Planning Consultants' Dover-Kohl who, 5 yeara ago, showed us Power Point slides of the Pike depicted as a tree-lined boulevard where Millennials frolic.

What was appalling is County Government's total disregard for the many small businesses on Lee Highway. Obviously, the Chamber of Commerce doesn't care either.

Why is there no mention of this meeting in the Sun Gazette, ArlNow, etc?

Time for Scott McCaffrey to follow Jay Fisette to a luxury retirement enclave in Florida nowhere near any mixed use redevelopment.

Dover-Kohl only has one tool in their Smart Growth toolbox - mixed use redevelopment which they use to sledgehammer neighborhood after neighborhood.

Smart Growth VIPs Jay Fisette, Mark Schwartz, and a number of ACDC Facilitator VIPs who shill for Smart Growth redevelopment live in A$hton Heights and their community is completely off limits to Smart Growth.

Check out the Arlington Chamber of Commerce. It's Board of Directors is loaded with Smart Growth developers, law firms, real eatate trusts. See any small business owners on the Chamber's BOD? I don't.

Why spend $450 per year to belong to the Arlington Chamber when the Chamber is anti-small business? I won't.

Whatever happened to Arlington as a "small business incubator"? Obviously, another oxymoron.

When was the referendum on whether or not we want 75,000 more people living in Arlington by 2040?

There is no doubt in my mind that County Government and the Chamber of Commerce are anti-small business. They are especially antipathetic to small business owners who own the building where the business is located.

Agree 110%. Look at the run around you get from Zoning.

Why doesn't the County Board take a ride in one of the County's vans down Fairfax Drive between Glebe Road and Washington Boulevard. Check out the "For Lease" signs on the 10 year old office buildings next to the new office buildings. Oh, don't forget to check out the vibrant used car lots.

NO more Smart Growth Ideologues Elected to the County Board NO

Small Business? That's what Arlington's Zoning, Code Enforcement, and the Arlington Treasurer's Office like to beat up.

Obviously, when County Government's New Urbanist policy has been for decades to allow public and commercial infrastructure to deteriorate, beat up on small businesses via Zoning when they want to make upgrades to their buildings, and lavishly entertain out-of-state REITs who want to impose mixed-use redevelopment on every neighborhood, via bloated DES, Planning, and Economic Development bureaucracies, you are going to have what's presently visible on Lee Highway.

You forgot....pack county bureaucracies with Smart Growth Zealots, pack advisory commissions with Smart Growth Zealots, pack civic associations with Smart Growth Zealots, pack neighborhood planning committees with Smart Growth Zealots, start false and malicious rumors about anyone who opposes Smart Growth, threaten anyone who doesn't go along with the Smart Growth program with arrest by the Arlington police.

You forgot...corporate welfare giveaways to REITs and for-profit non-profit housing corporations that provide "affordable housing" to "essential workers" like yoga instructors.

You forgot...lavish payments to Smart Growth Gurus and Facilitators.

You won't see me voting for incumbents who make me drive 20 miles to a hardware store so Millennials can have a 5 mile strip of bars and restaurants.

Worst County Board meeting in years today. Informercials during Public Comment, Regular Hearing items put on the Consent Agenda, Another Smart Growth Millennial Zoo with 600 parking spaces put on the Regular Hearing Agenda.
