Mary 'Safety Last' Hynes Should be a PAL - Retire Now from WMATA Board

Hey, Yupette:

I am tired of hearing sanctimonious sermons from Mary Hynes about Metrorail. What's happened to Metrorail during the five years she's been on the WMATA Board? More derailments, more accidents, more problems. Decades of dirt, rust, grease coated everything in the Metrorail tunnels....to the point power sources to the trains shorted out and caused fires. Every month another significant problem is discovered.

It gets worse. Mary's brought her 'safety last' mindset to Arlington via her service on the County Board. What kind of stupid safety slogan is "Be a PAL"?  We are risking our lives walking on the sidewalks in Shirlington Village, Westover, Clarendon, Rosslyn, etc. Why? Because Mary and the others with the authority to put a comprehensive multi-modal safety program in place, including enforcement, instead trade free range behavior by Bikeshare, Bike Arlington, and the other bikster bozos for votes.

Four months remain in Mary's term on the County Board. Time for her retire now from the WMATA Board.

Thanks for this blog.

Bicycle Comfort Level Comfort Map? How much did printing and mailing one to every household in Arlington cost the taxpayers?

Arlington in 2020 - Amsterdam-on-the-Potomac.

It will get worse. What's worse than 60-somethings on the County Board who can't say no to Millennials? Forty-somethings on the County Board who can't say no to Millennials.

Same Mary Hynes who thinks nothing of approving a 500 vehicle parking garage under Mixed Use Millennial Rabbit Hutches..

Anyone else noticed Arlington's used car lots are always full of recent-vintage vehicles?

ACPD won't enforce traffic ordinances concerning bicycles. First it's not a reactive activity and second there's no overtime in it for them.

Mary Hynes is a PAL all right -- Politrickster Always Lying

County Government is INSANE...they want everyone to ride a bicycle in Winter, they get nothing in the way of taxes and fees from bicycles except sales tax, they allow an ever-increasing number of free range bikester scofflaws to 'do their thing' on public streets and sidewalks, they spend millions of scarce tax dollars on bicycle infrastructure to buy votes from Bikeshare and Bike Arlington, they fund a do-nothing police department that does nothing except respond to 911 calls. Yes, Arlington WILL be Amsterdam-on-the-Potomac in 5 years.

I stopped riding Metro after the last track fire, all of them caused by the totally filthy conditions that exist throughout Metrorail, ranging from the escalators to the track bed.

Mary Hynes is a PAL all right: Progressives Are Loony

Has anything ever been washed with water-detergent on the Blue and Orange Lines since they opened 40 years ago?

Anonymous said...

Tracks and third rail and insulators had to be pressure washed a couple years ago to remove 3 decades worth of dirt and grease.

Usually nothing is ever cleaned until it's replaced.

WMATA: Never enough resources for comprehensive preventive maintenance. Huge number of first responders available for transit disasters.

How much does a low-speed derailment of a train carrying no passengers cost WMATA?

Elect Audrey Clement to the County Board. Then appoint her to be Arlington's delegate to WMATA.

Mary should resign immediately to be replaced by J.V.

How about the County fund community policing on bicycles in the FY 17 Budget?

Anonymous said...

At least half the expensive bicycles purchased by county residents are purchased on the Internet and no sales tax is paid.

Insanity? County Government wants to gridlock Arlington's street network with recreational bike riders who stop motor vehicles whose drivers are headed to supermarkets, doctors offices, schools, etc.

Who ordered the Arlington Police not to arrest scofflaw bicyclists?

Anonymous said...

Arlington Police are well-aware that gang members are starting to use bicycles to promote their activities - legal and illegal.

Anonymous said...

Only in Arlington do the police refuse to go after f----- scofflaw biketards who are unlicensed, have no ID on the vehicle, have no insurance and who ride like maniacs around the County. Oh, are often DWI and/or are involved in gang-related activities.

I no longer ride Metrorail and prefer to take my chances on Metrobus.

Every night when Metrorail shuts down there should be teams checking every foot of the railbed. The system is 40 years old and was never designed to operate in a highly urbanized environment.

Anonymous said...

It's a two-track system. Time for bus alternatives on routes that parallel the tracks.

Anonymous said...

Why not do basic upgrades to Metrorail and put more buses on parallel routes?

Anonymous said...

Yes, J.V. should take over from Mary right now. Why wait until January?

I am voting for Audrey Clement for County Board and would also like to see her on the WMATA Board. Both boards need shaking up.

I am tired of dodging bicycles on sidewalks. Be a PAL? What a bunch of bulloney.

Post front page report yesterday: "Metro board seeks expert on improving operations".

WMATA Board blames everyone but itself...yes, time for Mary Hynes to retire / resign.

Mary should resign from the WMATA Board so she chair a special committee to investigate why so many restaurants are going out of business in the B-R Corridor. I have heard it has something to do with food trucks.

Long-serving WMATA Board members blame employees and management. Where have they been for the past 5 years?

WMATA should be under the direct control of the U.S. Department of Transportation. Mary Hynes should be the Social Director of Whitlows.
