Free Range Special Interests Persuading Jay Fisette Not to Retire from the County Board

Hey, Yupette,

As most Democrats who are active in the Arlington Democratic Party know by now, Jay Fisette decided to retire from the County Board next year after thinking it over for almost a year. But a dozen free range special interest groups that Jay not only helped but empowered over the last two decades don't want him to step down from the County Board. They range from LGBT advocacy groups, to bicyclists, to dog owners, to performing arts groups, to soccer parents. Over the years Jay's become the go-to guy for expensive gimmes for his special interests. Like a $1.5 million doggie spa, a $20 million bailout for the Signature Theater, and a $50 million aquatics center that's still under discussion. If it's hard to persuade the County Government to fund your vanity project with Jay on the County Board how's it going to happen with Jay off the County Board? Meanwhile, Democratic insiders report that Jay is unhappy about how much APS is taking from revenue that could be spent on sports, entertainment, and recreation. Stay tuned to see what occurs after this year's elections.

Yeah, I heard that at the County Fair.

Free Range? You mean like Capital Scofflawshare?

You forgot to mention the Arlington Free Range Police Department. No community policing and little traffic enforcement (except for tourists and minority groups). Why bother when there's so much overtime to be earned chaperoning special interest events and providing off-duty security for malls, bars, restaurants, and sports.

Why should they care only a few live in Arlington.

Other Virginia counties and school districts can build a middle school for $25 million. APS will need $25 million plus a $5 million contingency to build a boathouse.

Free Range Policing? Try Fairlington. A couple of Arlington officers apparently rented a townhouse near S. Abingdon and S. 29th Street intersection and park their cruisers on the street near the intersection when they aren't on-duty. So does that mean there's no more running of stop signs at the intersection? Makes no difference whatsoever. Oh, BTW, Abingdon School is a block away. Someone in the Arlington PD also set up a traffic control sign at S 31st and S. Abingdon Streets that flashes "Don't Run Stop Signs". That also makes no difference whatsoever.

Jay's own neighborhood, Ashton Heights, is completely off-limits to the "Smart Growth" Jay's been imposing on everyone else who isn't fortunate to live in a "protected enclave".

Enough! Audrey Clement and Mike McMenamin for County Board!

Second that.

What can you expect from a new Chief of Police who lives closer to West Virginia than to Arlington?

Welcome to Year 14 of the 30 Year War on Terrorism.

Capital Bikeshare is the worst. Free Range Millennial Yuptard Biketards. Never mind riding on the sidewalk. They're now riding on the shoulders of the interstates.

Anonymous said...

Did anyone say "Viral"? Wait until the inevitable occurs -- a Bikeshare Biketard runs into a stroller on a sidewalk pushed by a Yuppie Daddy with a concealed carry permit packing a .45

Anonymous said...

LOL...'Biketard' commonly references a line of women's clothing.

I saw a guy riding a bicycle on the shoulder of 395 northbound yesterday. The State Police were busy stopping motorists for expired registrations and inspections.

Visit the lobby of 2100 Clarendon Blvd. and you will see artists' depictions of Vibrant Smart Growth Mixed Use Courthouse -- gridlocked by pedestrians, bicycles, and motor vehicles.

Some AH on a bicycle hits a stroller and the parent or parents will freak for sure.

Anonymous said...

I saw those artists' depictions ... of traffic in redeveloped Courthouse moving about 2 miles per hour...if that.

Anonymous said...

Mixed-modal comprehensive traffic impact analysis - what's that?

Leaders of organized bicycle groups are AT BEST scofflaws.

Wait until Year 20 of the 30 Year War on Terrorism.

Anonymous said...

Year 20 is 2021, right? And Ted Cruz was elected President in 2020.

Free Range? Performing Arts receive millions in free space and cash every year. County doesn't have an accurate inventory of what it's giving away in-kind.

Arlington County only works for the 25% of Arlington residents who are receiving expensive benefits via the taxpayers - schools for example, sports for example, performing arts for example.

Anyone know if Melissa Bondi will run for CB again?

Excluding the public library system about 50,000 Arlington residents (and an unknown number of non-residents) use the County's sports, recreation, education, etc., public infrastructure.

Soon to be 50,000 Alexandria residents using the Arlington-Alexandria Aquatic Center.

All Arlington Democrats want to do is govern by using tax dollars to buy special interest votes...for a never-ending series of extravagant projects.

There will never be too many swimming pools, soccer fields, gourmet restaurants, live theater groups, and dog parks for Jay Fisette and his special interest buds.

Anonymous said...

Bye bye jay. Jay is a loser and cannot understand basic math. Sorry, raising taxes each and every year for the past 20+ years fails to show creative leadership.

What is the cost per student for a new APS boathouse on the Potomac? How many students would be rowing?

Anonymous said...

About $250,000 per student.

Arlington Government is Special Interest Politics at its worst.

I blame Jay Fisette for the soon-to-be-out-of-control Bicycle Cult. Another group of urban village idiots county government can't say no to.

Anonymous said...

Gang members are starting to use bicycles for transportation...just like in other urbanized areas.

Anonymous said...

Can County Government please require bicyclists to walk their bicycles on sidewalks in urbanized areas of the County?

Anonymous said...

Second that bicyclists should be required to walk bicycles on sidewalks in urbanized areas.

At least one serious bicycle accident is occurring every weekend bicycle-bicycle and bicycle-pedestrian.
