Vihstadt Exposes FAAC Charade at Budget Work Session

Hey Yupette,

I tuned into the County Board - County Manager Budget Work Session yesterday, broadcast over the County's Web site. It's great that we elected John Vihstadt. He asks lots of important questions and the Democrats on County Board and in the County Manager's Office are annoyed.

One question he asked the Chairman of the Fiscal Affairs Advisory Commission yesterday was "Who votes for the FAAC's recommendations?" Turns out the authorized strength of the FAAC is 15 members, 13 presently serve on the Commission, and typically 8 (or fewer) show up for a meeting. Turns out that the votes for FAAC's various budget line item recommendation take place over weeks and whomever shows up for a meeting votes. The FAAC is supposed to reflect what County residents want or don't want, since we don't get to debate budget line items with the County Board and County Manager. But it appears the FAAC votes for or against budget line items reflect various constituencies whose members show up at FAAC meetings and vote for what interests them. But we already knew the annual Budget meetings are a big charade, and FAAC is a small part.

Thanks for this blog.

JV also asked whether the County's red light traffic cameras conform to national standards that stipulate how long the yellow light stays lighted when a signal turns from green to red. He did not get an answer from County transportation staff, though Dennis Leach was seated in the County Board room.

Democrats are taking the line that the upscale amenities offered to Arlingtonians via a bloated bureaucracy are worth whatever we are charged in taxes and fees.

It gets worse. Nada Tejada stated today that Arlington is wonderful because owners of single family homes can get mulch home-delivered delivered free of charge by DES.

Oh, $#!+ Are we going to become like Yellow Dog Democrat Falls Church?

Mulch delivered free of charge paid for by condo owners who not only have to pay for having their own condo community's grounds mulched but pay taxes for free delivery of mulch to the richey riches who own $2 million McMansions..

Who comes after Barbara Donnellan? A Harvard Elitist County Manager? I hope not!

Nada Tejada also stated that Commissioner of Revenue Ingrid Morroy ignored legal advice that would have allowed her to escape the County's expected $13 million liability for multi-jurisdiction personals services firms who were assessed BPOL tax for providing services outside Arlington.

Barbara was bad enough...constantly lecturing everyone about everything.

Where is there an opponent for Ingrid Morroy?
