Welcome Back to the New Arlington Way

Hello Yupette,

So the efforts of Arlington's Lexus Liberals to impose their mega zillion dollar pet projects on Arlington taxpayers only succeeded in getting taxpayers mad enough to elect a fiscal conservative to the County Board? What to do now? County Board's  Democratic majority figured it was time to revitalize The Arlington Way.

In the event you are new to Arlington and have not experienced the classic "Arlington Way" it works like this:  A special interest aligned with the Arlington Democratic Party secretly lobbies the County Board until the County Board pre-approves a program, project, whatever the special interest wants. County Staff are brought on board to facilitate. Various citizens committees, commissions,  boards, etc.,  formed from the usual Democratic Party stalwarts rubber stamp whatever is proposed, with cosmetic changes. A charade approval process is set in motion which culminates (often years later) with the County Board approving what the special interest wants with great fanfare.

So why am I not surprised that  "Pub Crawl Mary" Hynes proposed revisiting The Arlington Way and forming a citizens advisory committee to facilitate a revival. Why shouldn't they? The Arlington Way charade worked for years and made lots of Democrats (like Jay Fisette) rich. Why not again? Can you blame them?

Next big Arlington Way charade - everyone ride bicycles 24/7/365 to benefit the bikeshare bikeocrat special interest.

You mean like the Signature secretly lobbied the County Board?

Make the County Board's and County Manager's appointment calendars public. No exceptions. If they are conducting personal and political business in the County Board offices, too bad.

Anonymous said...

Yeah, they pack the transportation committees with bikeocrats and so of course the transportation funds get spent on bike lanes, not new ART bus routes.

Yeah, well, the 'bike 24/7/365' is well under way. Only "road" plowed this morning was the Custis bike trail.

I cannot safely walk on the sidewalks in Ballston in good weather because Bikeshare bozos use the sidewalks as bike lanes.

Welcome back to the New Arlington Way? Did you hear the County Manager at the CivFed last night? Let's continue configuring the County for the Millenials who live in $2400 per month one-bedroom apartments and have $4,000 per month to spend in bars and restaurants.

Based on last night's performance at the CivFed it's time for Barbara Donnellan to retire. She's the County Manager, not Queen of Arlington. Ranting against the County Board because members of the County Board want County Government to be fiscally responsible is counterproductive to efficient government.

So ART Bus ridership has grown from 100,000 to 2.5 million annually in 15 years, according to Barbara Donnellan? Why are transportation funds being diverted from ART Bus expansion to bicycles?

Anonymous said...

County is being configured for Millenials (persons born between 1982 and 2000). What about persons born since 2000 who will be entering the workforce in a couple years?

Anonymous said...

Donnellan should join Zimmy as a Smart Growth Booster...that's all she knows and wants to know.

Anonymous said...

With a few exceptions the bars and restaurants that cater to millenials are not doing well.

Anonymous said...

So what are the Republican Congress's trickle down economic policies going to do to Arlington's economy?

Anonymous said...

Arlington Way...how we obtained 'affordable housing' that excludes anyone who doesn't earn $50,000 to $60,000 per year.

Anonymous said...

'Arlington Way' -- how we obtained 1000 square foot plazas surrounded by restaurants and retail as 'open space'.

Anonymous said...

So that's Fisette's, Hynes's, Tejada's and Donnellan's future economic program for Arlington...cater to the wants of Millenials?

Anonymous said...

Barbara Donnellan is part of the problem. So are the other executive-level County employees who don't live in Arlington, don't pay taxes in Arlington, don't suffer the consequences of their actions (i.e., micro-managing our lives), and take a big paycheck, great benefits, and good pension home to Fairfax County where their suburban back yards are the same as they were 40 years ago.

"Arlington Way" - How we lost our neighborhood parks and playgrounds to dedicated soccer fields that are off limits to neighborhood residents. Don't believe it? Check out how many are covered with blue tarps from November to March and the rest of the year Parks and Rec employees in pick-up trucks tell you the field is reserved for soccer if you toss a frisbee to your kids when the fields are not being used for soccer.

If "Whitlows Mary" can't make up her mind to run for re-election it's time for her to retire.

Anonymous said...

So Libby is going to rejoin the Range Rover RepubliCrats? Too bad for the taxpaying middle class sheeple.

Anonymous said...

Arlington Democrats are Range Rover Republicans? Exactly. Arlington Democratic Party is so Elitist it's scarey. Don Beyer is just the latest indication of how far removed the Democratic Party is from the middle class whose interests it's supposed to serve.

Anonymous said...

How did we reach the point where so many major decisions County Government are made by non-residents?

Anonymous said...

"Transportation" in Arlington is a mess....starting with the crowded and dirty Metrorail system. But don't blame Mary Hynes.

Anonymous said...

Barbara Donnellan will tell you about the success of ART buses and an hour later will raid ART bus funding for bicycle infrastructure.

Anonymous said...

Does Barbara Donnellan or anyone else realize that in 5 years Arlington will be gridlocked by thousands more people bicycles? Meaning all vehicular traffic including Metrobuses and ART buses.

Anonymous said...

In 5 years people will be afraid to use the sidewalks because of the behavior of the bikeshare biketards.

Anonymous said...

Arlington Way Urban Village idiots put bikeshare next to the sidewalks, so what can you expect?

Anonymous said...

Agree. In less than 5 years the bicycle cult, craze, fanatics will gridlock Arlington's streets and roads between May and October.

Of course by then Barbara Donnellan will be retired

Anonymous said...

Interesting that motor vehicles are becoming more safety-sophisticated via IT but cannot anticipate erratic behavior by pedestrians and biksters.

Anonymous said...

Arlington elected and unelected VIPs are becoming rationally-challenged...expecting large numbers of residents to ride bicycles in the winter is a major indication.

Anonymous said...

County Government caters to special interests. Last year three Arlington pedestrians were hit by hit and run bikesters while walking on sidewalks and seriously injured (broken bones and concissions). Completely covered up by ACPD, County Government and the local Media.

Anonymous said...

Agree...County Government and APS are completely unable to say NO to any special interest.

Mary Hynes is the W O R S T.

Responsible for pub crawls getting out of control in her neighborhood.

Responsible for filthy Metrorail trains and stations in the B-R Coridor.

Responsible, together with Barbara Favola, for crumbling public infrastructure in the B-R Corridor (no other past or current C.B. members live near the B-R Corridor).

Anonymous said...

It is very interesting that Jay Fisette wants to gentrify small businesses like florists, shoe, repair shops, and hardware stores out of everyone else's neighborhood. He has no objections to used car lots, pawn shops, and car washes in his own neighborhood.

Anonymous said...

As long as the currupt media support the corrupt Democratic Regime, we'll be stuck with the corrupt Democratic Regime.

Anonymous said...

County Board's and County Manager's desk calendars from the previous month should be put on the Web by the 10th of the next month. No redactions allowed.

Anonymous said...

People...our lives are being not only controlled but micro-managed by VIP County Employees who would not move to Arlington County no matter how much they were paid.

Anonymous said...

So what do you think is going to happen when some Bikeshare biketard zooming on the sidewalk hits a stroller and the parent or parents freak?

Anonymous said...

Commonwealth's Attorney, ACPD, Fire/EMS, and Local Media will cover it up.

Can't offend the Biketard Cult.

Anonymous said...

What will happen when some Bikeshare Biketard hits a kid in a stroller on the sidewalk?

Parent or parents will kick the $#!+ of of the Biketard A$$hole who desperately deserves it before calling 911.

Anonymous said...

Bikester-Biketard-Bikeshare = another cult the pols have to cater to.

Anonymous said...

Urban Village Idiots? The pols who put Capital Bikeshare on our sidewalks.

Anonymous said...

Biketards are NOT the WORST. WORST is when Yuptards run stop signs at 30 mph in their SUVs leaning on the horn warning you that they are blowing through the intersection.

Anonymous said...

Meanwhile the Arlington County Police Department is focusing it's efforts on being Macy's, Nordstrum's, 7-11's, etc., on-site taxpayer-funded security detail when ACPD isn't tailing skateboarders and other 'neighborhood nuisances' around the County.

Anonymous said...

F Y I ---- Captial Bikeshare has been R-E-P-E-A-T-E-D-L-Y told that Capitsal Bikeshare will be sued if the people to whom it rents bicycles hit pedestrians.

Alvin Munchkin said...

Don't like sharing the sidewalk with bicyclists? Walk in the street !

Anonymous said...

People -- Arlington's Transportation Policy is set by Fairfax County residents who drive everywhere in SUVs.

Anonymous said...

I want the USA to stop constant warfighting so there will be a big RIF in the fedral government and all the crazy shit that's been going on here the past 15 years will end.

Anonymous said...

Anyone noticed that NO ONE at 2100 Clarendon Blvd. refutes anything that appears on this blog?

Anonymous said...

Arlington will soon have a new CPHD Director to replace Bob Brosnan who's retiring. Wonder which jurisdiction around Arlington the new CPHD Director will move to from Madison Wisconsin, where he currently lives?

Anonymous said...

Most likely McLean.

Anonymous said...

New CPHD Director comes to us from a university town? Does this mean more pub crawls?

Anonymous said...

Bet a donut he buys a home in FC.
